Detailed Reviews
I travelled to the US on a working visa from Australia with a few friends and we stayed at The Ambassador for about 3 months during the winter of 2000-2001. There were 4 of us that were working at Heavenly and missed out on the staff housing. The managers were fantastic and helped us out whenever they could. We had access to the staff laundry and were given a fantastic rate. We enjoyed our time in Tahoe and have some fond memories of 'our home' the Ambassador.

Response from JanSouthLakeTahoe, Manager Jan Lourenco at Lake Tahoe Ambassador Lodge
Responded 11 Jan 2007
I am very sorry that you received bad service from me, I honestly do not want any bad feeling, I am only 50 but maybe I do appear old at times. Please forgive me, I do not want you to think I lie about anything that we provide here at Ambassador, we have a good reputation here and dont want anyone to feel disapointed like you do. I did research your name and I am sorry but I do not have you listed in my books for January. If you would kindly give me a call, so I can personally apoloize. Thank You Jan (Manager)

We picked this out at random and were pleasantly surprised. We got a very good rate since it was end of ski season so there were not a lot of people in South Lake Tahoe. We got a slightly above average 2* motel room with two queen beds that was clean and spacious. The decor was retro 60s/70s but everything was in good shape. The water flow on the shower was excellent although I would have preferred shampoo bottles over the small packages. I don't think there was a continental breakfast but I could be wrong about that. It was walking distance to the casinos. It was fairly quiet although if you are a light sleeper you could be woken up if people make a racket when returning from casinos. I would stay here again if the price is right.

My friends and I have been coming here for years. The owners have always been so kind and have gone out of their way to accomodate us. Wouldn't stay anywhere else. We usually get about five rooms and ALL my friends that have stayed here want to keep coming back. My daughter loves it too

Over the years we've stayed in many of the smaller older motels in the casino area, including the Ambassador. A few years ago we thought we would go "up-scale" and bought in to the timeshare thing. We were in Tahoe on December 27 and as luck would have it there was no room at the timeshare. Back to our old haunts - we choose the Ambassador mainly because it is easy walking distance to the casinos. we lucked out. We had forgot how Tahoe is supposed to feel. It is a great step back. The rooms are large, well appointed, and very clean. We had a great stay and it won't be by accident that we end up there on our next visit.

This hotel is invested with bed bugs. They are like mosquitoes in that they feed on human blood. I found a live one crawling around, small blood stains, and poppy seed sized black bed bug excrement on the sheets and around the bed. I had severe allergic reactions all over my body from where they bit me in the night and then they came home with me in my luggage so now I have them in my room and potentially the rest of the condo. For this very reason they are a major public health concern because they travel so easily.
DO NOT STAY HERE!!! You will end up paying three times the cost of this cheap hotel in pest control and doctor's visits.

So, I was ok with the cracked tub door, with the lack of hair dryer (available upon request and have to return it to the front desk or they will charge you!), with the lack of tissue box and air conditioning, and difficulty of finding a parking place. All this was acceptable to me until I woke up the next morning with bed bug bites all over my arms and legs as well as my wife's. I looked under the sheets and saw bug excrement! I went to urgent care and the doctor strongly recommended that everything I had with me in the hotel has to go. Manager was rude and denied any presence of bed bugs. I strongly recommend that you avoid this hotel since you'll end up paying more in terms of medical bills and lost luggage.

We stayed for just one night in an upstairs room. The hotel is set back from the main streets in a area filled with motels. I like a quiet place to sleep and was not dissapointed. The plumbing is not the best and you can hear your neighbors showering and you can hear doors slam when people come home from the casinos.
Other than that it was clean, the hot water worked, the beds were comfortable and warm enough - the blanket a little threadbare, but hey.

We had a very comfortable stay at the Ambassador
Lodge in Lake Tahoe. The manager was so accomodating with our need for two connecting rooms. The motel is classic old style, but clean and roomy. Passes to the nearby beach are available at no charge.
