We stayed for just one night. We got to town earlier than expected, and although our room was not ready we were allowed to park in the lot which was great since we could walk to many shops and restaurants. Our room was good-sized (one king bed) and the bathroom was enormous with two sinks. The breakfast fare was standard, which was good. We would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights. We've stayed at several HIEs, and I have to say, this is definitely one of the nicest. Our room was in the building in the back and so was very quiet, no traffic noise whatsoever. The room was very large, with a king bed (on which a cute towel bunny greeted us!), comfortable armchair and ottoman, a counter area with microwave and refrigerator underneath and Keurig machine on top, very large vanity area with excellent lighting, and separate toilet and tub/shower room. A pet peeve of mine is lighting - at so many hotels, lighting is inadequate, but not here! I believe there were five lamps, plus overhead lighting, making for a nice, bright room. We didn't use the A/C much as the room stayed a fairly comfortable temperature without it, but it was quiet. Everything was spotlessly clean, and a note from the manager in each room explains the precautions the hotel is taking and even provides the manager's email for more information.

Due to COVID, breakfast is a "to-go" bag with your choice of a pork or turkey sausage and egg biscuit sandwich, and packaged muffin. Fresh fruit is also available. You can help yourself to yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, and milk. And of course, the friendly attendant will also provide coffee.

The hotel is in easy walking distance to the casinos and the new "Heavenly Village" area with many shops and restaurants. We recommend Maya's for authentic Mexican, just a block or so to the left as you exit the hotel, and with outdoor seating (with heaters).

All staff we encountered were friendly and pleasant. All in all, a very nice stay, and we'd definitely stay again.

We've stayed at most of the hotels in South Lake Tahoe but this was the first time at the Holiday Inn Express. I was pleasantly surprised with the room, cleanliness and the location. You won't get the big pool or the big lobby of the larger hotels but it's quaint, feels secluded and you parking is free vs. $29 each night at most of the larger chains.

I do understand the 4th of July weekend is an expensive time to come up here but figuring the fireworks show was cancelled and Tahoe had just opened back up to visitors, I would of thought the price for a room would've been more reasonable. The cost for 3 nights (remember its a Holiday Inn Express) was $1250! Yes, over $400 per night with nothing special happening that weekend. That was a big disappointment.

But it was our first venture out of the Bay Area during these 'times' and we enjoyed our stay...very relaxing.

I will begin by saying that the experience in this hotel has not been so pleasant. We paid a significantly amount for two rooms, to be exact $1492.00 for 2 nights.

The rooms I paid for were 4 queen beds, we were given 4 full beds.
I went to the office and I mentioned that, the attendees didn’t take me serious. Mentioned he can’t do anything. I feel like the staff should have a different approach when they are handling customers concerns/issues. His respond was I can’t do anything, perhaps saying something along the lines like let me get my general manager and see what we can do for you or let me see how we could accommodate.

This trip was suppose to be a great experience for my family, kids were disappointed. I went to the front office and ask for towels for my kids since they were at the pool. They only gave me 2 hand towels, what am I suppose to do with two hand towels?

After the kids got back to the rooms, I called the front desk twice and asked for towels. Those towels were never brought up. The front desk could of said we have no towels available we waited for hours, we decided to just got to the closest store in the area to buy towels since we weren’t being accommodated.

The reservation as stated on the website includes Full breakfast, breakfast buffet, continental breakfast. I took the kids down to grab some breakfast, our only options were turkey/beef biscuits, apples and milk.
This is not a full breakfast, nor buffet. I asked the lady she mentioned due to COVID-19 that they are only able to serve those items. I feel like that should of been said on the website, limited breakfast due to COVID-19. The kids would of been fine with a box of cereal.

The rooms were not as of accommodating, we got two rooms next to each other. We noticed the first room on our right side was twice as big as ours, more spacious and they were given an extra bed. When I originally booked the reservation I had called and ask if they can be accommodate an extra bed they said they don’t offer that options. I spoke to the family that got that room, they said they had asked for a room with two queen and the attendant offered an extra bed.

There was little things that we noticed with the bathroom amenities. The shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel were not full, they were about 3/4 full. There was no hand soap, we had to drive to a store and purchase one.

We tried making coffee in the morning using their coffee maker in the room. As I attempted to full the container with water the inside was pretty disturbing to look at, there was pieces of white things just floating around on the water that was used.

Overall experience. Not pleasant at all.

I booked our stay through Trip Advisor/Agoda since it had the best price and latest cancellation.

Convenient location in South lake to restaurants, shops and Heavenly. Check in in was quick. Hand sanitizer station I lobby never seemed to be filled. The room was somewhat small and dated , with small TV and older microwave and fridge (but no freezer). It was nice to have single brew Keurig, although the coffee pods we brought from home didn’t taste as good brewed from their machine. It was harder to eat take out since the desk only had one low chair and the arm chair had no side table, but no biggie. The bed was comfortable but beware if you have feather allergies as half the pillows were down and when we asked for foam pillows they said they would check if they had any and never got back to us. The bathroom was updated and modern with plenty of counter space and decent shower.

They offered breakfast that you pick up and bring back to room (choice of egg sandwich with ham or Turkey sausage, 2 hard boiled eggs, prepackaged muffin/French toast/croissant, cereal, yogurt, orange, banana), which was enough to fill you up until lunch.

Pros: location, comfortable bed, decent shower, Keurig machine, variety for breakfast
Cons: small TV, dated smaller room, value

We enjoyed our 2 night stay. Our room was in the first building on the ground floor. We had no issues with noise and parked right outside our room. The room was spacious and clean and bathroom was large and updated. Nice touch were some cleaning cloths in the bathroom - we used them to clean our car windows on the inside. Breakfast was decent, although pancake machine is only on during weekends. Staff was super friendly. Housekeeping knocked and asked if we wanted service on 2nd day but we declined. A large trash can outside our door was knocked over but when we returned from breakfast it was already cleaned up.

This hotel is easy walking distance to all the shops and restaurants in South Lake Tahoe, as well as the casinos across the state line. It's an easy drive to Emerald Bay. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Good location, clean, quiet (despite our room facing the road and being at the top of the stairs so lots of people passing by), good breakfast kept fully stocked and very clean by some hard working ladies, all 3 front of house staff we encountered were friendly and polite

But I had to make my bed!! They changed the towels ( not necessary after one night) but the making of the bed is apparently not done on stay overs of less than a certain number of days. If it’s a covid, cost saving or staffing issue then second nights should be at a reduced rate. For me it’s a luxury to have someone else make my bed.

We think the pool was open but as it had a barrier splitting it in 2 it wasn’t worth using as you couldn’t have a proper swim

Good value however.

1)These people are intolerant of dogs. They really shouldn’t accept them. My highly trained border collie let out three barks when the maid came by making a lot of noise. The front desk called and complained. I had already stayed there for three nights without any problems as my dog doesn’t bark except to alert me of a problem.
There were no residents staying around me so this complaint came from their staff.

2)After staying for three days, The front desk called to tell me that my card was declined for stay on the fourth day. Weird, that’s never happened. The instant I walked out of the room to go talk to the staff-They locked me out of my room which contained ALL of my personal belongings(my keys, my cards, my dog, my clothes). I felt completely helpless. It turns out that they were wrong! My card was charged twice. They offered NO apologies. The manger was nice but two staff members continues to shout at me until the manager arrived. These two have no ability to diffuse an upset customer or offer any apologies-Kenneth and kaliah(sp?).

The best of this hotel is its location, very close to the Heavenly Village. Rooms are ok, and a good included add-on is a decent breakfast. On a minus side, during our 3-night stay housekeeping didn’t clean the room, change towels or took garbage out, as they should.

I called and made a reservation for May 2020 on 1/15/20. I asked what I would be charged now when giving my cc info. The person I spoke with, Jivana, said I would not be charged until I was there in May for our vacation. On 1/24/20 I was charged $152. I called the number that came in an email for reservations. The woman told me she couldn’t help and the department that could was already off for the weekend and to call Monday. Today I called that number and spoke with someone, Tammy, who gave me another number to call. I spoke with Michelle, she transferred me to another department and it rang for 5 minute non-stop- didn’t have music or anything g just ringing. So I hung up and called the number I reached michelle at again and I got her voicemail so that was her direct line. I called back Tammy who gave me Michelle’s number. Then Tammy gives me a different number to call and I got someone who told me they always charge the first night stay plus the resort fees for that day. This all would have been fine except, the person who booked my stay said we wouldn’t be charged anything until May so imagine the surprise when you’re charged in January and all I wanted was someone to tell me that and no one would say a word besides transferring me or giving me a new phone number to call. Haven’t stayed yet and I’m already beyond frustrated.

Answer from Kathleen M M
South Lake Tahoe, California
If you call the Hotel and talk to the front desk and ask for the early check in they will tell you if it is available depending on the occupancy of the following night and if your room is ready or can be ready by the time you come to visit. We like the advance notice. Showing up and expecting that it should be done is hard when we try to make everything perfect so that your stay is fabulous. Thank you for the question they are always a gift.
