From the moment you are greeted at door of our guesthouse and enter the beautiful open lounge with its large, roofed deck and amazing sea views, then venture out to the sugar-sand beach and azure waters of the Indian Ocean, you know your visit to the Top-of-the-Dune will be nothing less than extraordinary. The charming beach house, Top-of-the-Dune is open for guests all year round and, surprisingly, at a price that won't break the bank. Of course, there are many vacation rentals available in Tofo, but Top-of-the-Dune's reputation is difficult to beat. A stunning house set in the bush on top of a Dune facing Tofino Beach, down a quiet lane just a few hundred meters of Tofo Village.

Stayed here for two weeks, and I could have spent two more. Located a five minute walk from the beach, Top-of-the-Dune guesthouse sits in the quieter end of Tofo, excellent for anyone wanting to fall asleep only to the sound of waves. The staff are incredibly friendly (even though I make a terrible Portuguese language student!) and Ortillia makes great fresh breakfasts. I highly recommend this guesthouse to anyone looking for a quiet, peaceful, incredibly clean location in Tofo.

Perfect place for couples or little groups who like to enjoy a peaceful and quiet place that makes you feel at home.
Every morning we had a tasty fresh breakfast at the veranda with ocean view, watching humpback whales jumping out of the water - a very special adventure and a great place to be!
Top-of-the-dunes is 5-10min far from Tofo beach. With its place on TOP of the dune the view is adorable. I highly recommend this guesthouse to everyone!
Thank you very much to the hosts and staff for being so kind and let us enjoy this place so much!

We only stayed one night and we were the only guests. Nice huge common area with sea view and kitchen. Rooms simple but ok. Plankets and pillow cases had stains. Too bright energy saving lights all over the place. No Moskito mesh at the windows. Wifi not working. Breakfast with instant coffee was 500 Metical, way too expensive

Dear Maksi, thank you for your review of Top-of-the-Dune Guesthouse. We regret to hear that you thought our breakfast was "way too expensive". As you know, we charge 500 Meticais per person, that is 7 Euros. Mozambique currently suffers from high inflation and this is connected with quite dramatically rising prices for food and commodities. In fact, with every breakfast that we sell for 500 Meticais, we lose money! Also, things are not easy to get; to buy the sausage that you ate, somebody has to travel to Inhambane (21 kilometers). And please tell me: Wherelse in the world did you have breakfast for 7 Euros with such a magnificient ocean view? With regard to the stains that you found on our blankets and pillows, these are iron(III) oxide. Municipal water in Tofo is very iron-rich. We wash our bedclothes in the house and have reduced the usage of detergent. Since we are so close to the ocean, the environment is very sensitive and we strive to make a contribution to its preservation. We think that for this goal, we can tolerate a few iron(III) oxide stains on the blankets and pillows, but your comment will prompt us to inform our guests about this. Finally, you complain that there are no mosquito meshes on the windows. Did you know that such meshes hold back 70% of the air flow? Because of our location on top of a dune, we always have a mild wind, which drastically reduces the number of mosquitoes compared to down at street level. Also, as you know, we have perfect walk-in mosquito nets surrounding the beds, and we spray the rooms every afternoon at 4 p.m.. So tell me, were you bitten by any mosquito while in the room? I would be surprised.

Top of the Dune is by far one of the nicest lodges/guest houses I've ever been to, everything about it makes you feel comfortable and welcome be it the Owners, the staff, the atmosphere and the service, the house is sooo beautiful, it has 5 rooms and i think could take up to 15 people and the rooms are very clean and accommodating. Other than that the terrace where we had our breakfast everyday is superb you can hang out at any point of the day and enjoy the breathtaking view overlooking the ocean. It's a 10 minute walk from the Market and the beach, so its relatively close to everything, the House has a beautiful , well-equipped kitchen where you could always prepare your own lunches/dinners. I will definitely come back~!

Very small, extremely basic rooms. My biggest problem was that they do not filter the water, which is not safe to consume in Tofo. We’d open the taps to brown water.

This guesthouse has potential, but it needs a lot of work.

The location is great: close to the beach & to the central market, with views of the ocean. The hostess Linda was very hospitable.

Dear Ralphsisi, thank you for your comments. We use municipal water, which has a high content of iron(III), hence it is yellowish at times. But iron(III) is not toxic. To avoid the problem of the colour of the tap water provided by the city of Inhambane, we have drilled a new borehole and will start operating it in a few days.

It's situated just a few minutes' walk from the main beach and it's restaurants. One of the hosts, Linda, is very friendly and kind. It is relatively cheap.
The rooms are not spacious, nor particularly comfortable. The place looks old and rusty in many areas.
As the lack of creativity in the name suggests, not a lot of effort is put into this guesthouse.
