Absolutely beautiful, tranquil and serene Resort. Just a few suggestions. The shower needs to be looked at, one cannot stand up and use the shower. Cottage number 5 needs a Carport. Also just in front of Cottage 5, on the Huge Willow tree, please add a swing and hammock.

Great retreat away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Great location, log cabins, some improvements can be made on security in the chalets such as a security safe to put certain valuables, pad heaters as the underberg area gets really cold even in summer, the dam could do with a mooring platform for easy ski launches, and the tracks to the reception and car ports to be better maintained. Other than that everything was perfect

We stayed three nights over Christmas. The lakeside hut with a verandah on the water side provides all the necessities, including towels, bedding, kitchen equipment, TV, Wi-Fi and even toiletries. The beds were firm, the sheets quality. There is a BBQ at the back. Further provisions were available at an amazing supermarket of the same owners 1km down the road. National power cuts and a lot of rain (we even had hail!) saw the wifi down much of the time. The staff were friendly, and the resort is teaming with animals - sheep, goats, cows, donkeys, and the odd baboon spying on us from behind a hill. A cheeky weaver bird made friends with us, bringing along his girlfriend for visits on the verandah. The lake has fish, frogs and Egyptian geese. Canoes came with the hut, much enjoyed by families. There were incredible starry nights to be seen. There are marked hikes into the hills from the camp. Minor criticism (hut no 13) included mould in the shower, leaking toilet, and the essential oil lamp was missing the necessary lint. The camp is built into a hill, with the drive way being very rough, full of potholes, and quite steep in parts. The pool (which the sheep used as a drinking hole) was not too inviting. If you want a rustic, basic base station in a tranquil natural setting, at a reasonable price, we would recommend it. Elands Valley Resort was better than we had expected, though our expectations were not very high.

Myself and my fiancé mostly enjoyed our stay at Elands Valley Resort, and we definitely would like to return at some point in the future, the views are amazing, the grounds are well kept, and the cabins are neat and cozy. We stayed in cabin 11 and thought it was amazing! There’s plenty of trails to walk on. It’s a very relaxing and scenic resort. Unfortunately, the day prior to our arrival, the snow had knocked out electricity for the whole area, which is not the resorts fault at all, as it wasn’t just the resort but the whole area.
However, I am giving a bit of a lower rating, as I felt communication from the front office/management could have been better. We feel that we could’ve been sent a whatsapp or email, to notify us of the electricity problem, friends of ours were staying elsewhere in the Drakensburg, and were notified by their accommodation of the power issue and were even offered a rescheduling of their dates. Because of the power being out, we couldn’t shower, as the geyser is not gas, so with it being so cold, we couldn’t warm up in a warm shower. Just a few more things to note on the communication topic, the generator for the wifi and 1 light in each cabin (which runs if no power), is turned off in the night and not turned on until 8AM in the morning, we weren’t informed of that. When the generator was turned on, cabins 11-14 didn’t have wifi, I reported this and was only assisted after 2 hours, even after I said that there was an important phone call I was expecting from family abroad, the solution took 2 minutes, by just rebooting the wifi repeater. Because of the power issue, we had to charge our phones in the car, which drained the cars battery, I’m lucky the neighbours were kind enough to assist in jump starting my vehicle. We noticed another cabin had brought their dog, where on booking.com it states no dogs are allowed, there’s also a notice inside the cabin to say no animals allowed, we followed the rules but would have loved to have our dog with us as it is like our child, if the rules have changed, it should be updated for guests like us who want to bring their dogs. Our neighbour reported their toilet wasn’t flushing in the morning and wasn’t assisted until he found a maintenance guy himself and asked him to assist close to the evening, the reception must not have informed the maintenance team of the issue. I also want to note that, I had gone to the front desk/reception several times and had dealt with the same gentleman each time, and he couldn’t remember my name or cabin number every time, even 1 hour apart. Now I know we weren’t the only guests at the resort, and I don’t expect special treatment, but I will say - guest service makes the world of difference!
I wish I didn’t have to complain and give a lower review, because the place is so great and deserves a 5 star rating, its just unfortunate that there is a lack of communication & urgency from the front office staff, like I say, we do hope to return in the future, because we thoroughly enjoyed the resort, the cabin and the views, we also wish to have the proper experience and not have to battle with no power and no warm water and wifi issues. I hope when we return, the communication with guests is better and that management have perhaps looked into alternative back up power solutions, if you’d like to look at solar/generators/inverters and batteries, please contact me, as it’s the line of work I am in.

I suggest to put electric blanket on the beds.
The braai needs to be in front of the cabin and not at the back door with smaller braai with a braai grid that fit the braai.
Very nice place needs some attention. The double bed is to small for 2 people.

Grounds unkept. Pool area uninviting. Road not good. Walking paths not clearly marked. Braai area was a bench with a cut drum on, which was too high. Unit gutters damaged, shower tiles damaged. A week before our arrival, the price for the same period was a lot cheaper than we paid?

It is very peaceful and beautiful surroundings in nature. The braai areas and parking needs attention.
Back-up generators to service all accommodation when power is down. Gas stove will be helpful when power is down for making coffee/cook a meal, specially when it is raining.

This resort is nestled in the foot hills with hills in front, to the rear and a mountain on the side. It has great views of the Drakensberg mountains. We stayed in the two sleeper cottage that is right on the dam and from our deck we watched the water birds and otters on the water. Due to the rains the water fall was flowing nicely so I took a walk to it, in places a bit of a climb and other areas were a bit muddy, but well worth the effort for the view. There is a games room with table tennis and pool tables along with other games. The shop is an easy stroll away if you need something or just want to stop by for a breakfast or lite lunch.
