From arrival we were made promises, none were kept. Room was not cleaned and ready. We were told on the first night we would be served dinner in the boma. Didn't happen. Then we were told we'd have dinner in the boma the second night. Didn't happen. Power went on and off continuesly. It was a nightmare trying to shower, as the hot/cold wasn't regulated. The "game drives" included and paid for in the package were an aimless driving around with workers on the farm, seeing virtually nothing. A sunset drive with drinks was promised. Didn't happen. It is a great venue, and with the right management could be a great lodge. Maybe it is because of covid, but the lodge is in a terrible state. If the manager could keep to his word and not create un-met expectations all the time, it has the potential of a great stay.

Food for your soul and body...that is what I found at Phofu Kalahari Lodge. The warm welcome received from the staff made me feel at ease and at home in the lovely cool lodge. Every meal is created and served by the friendly and accomplished chef . The meals are mainly prepared from game meat , of which all the preparation is done on the premises as there is a fully equipped butchery. The bedrooms in the main building are spacious and comfortable enabling you to have a wonderful night's sleep so you awake refreshed for the day's activities. There are also luxury tents and self catering tented camps. The game drives in the surrounding bushveld, which are luscious and green, after the good rains, are spectacular. You might be lucky to see a herd of 100 Eland running through the bush in a line which for me was an amazing sight. Afterwards you can relax on the veranda, with the chef who will entertain you with delicious snacks and something to quench your thirst. All this, while watching the game drink at the waterhole infront of the lodge. Another highlight is the lookout deck which they took us to, again accompanied with refreshments.. The view and sunset is magnificent. There is also a sunken hide with beds, near a water hole. Other entertainment is a room with a full size billiard table, or you can just relax with a book in the spacious living areas, or cool down in the swimming pool. If you are looking for a peaceful and tranquil getaway with all the luxuries, I would really recommend this place.

After a long hot drive the directions & signes to the lodge were so vague, one had the logo on it, another one further on did not & I think it said Phofu Bush lodge anyway we did not take the correct turnoff, because of this we ended up trying to reach the contact number supplied on our booking into but no one answered. Eventually we found the lodge - out luxuary tent was very spacious, clean & comfortable. I found that the main lodge area did not have much atmosphere, there were 2 other couples there as well as 2 people who were temporarily running the lodge at the time. The service from the general Staff was good but the couple running the lodge seemed to be out of their depth

Response from Phofu, General Manager at Phofu Kalahari Lodge

Dear Lulu Firstly, allow me to sincerely apologize for whatever disappointment Phofu caused you, your family and friends. The lodge does close it’s gates at 7pm sharp that is probably the reason that you could not get hold of anyone on the property. We thank you for providing feedback and letting us know about the other issues you experienced which will help us in preventing future occurrences happening again. Kind regards,

This is our 4th visit to Phofu Lodge It was real peace for the soul as there is absolute no noise If you would just like peace and quiet Phofu is the place to go The sand road to the lodge is much improved and much easier to drive than our 1st visit The attention from the owner Nico makes the visit so much more personal We really enjoyed his short introductory talk before each meal.He reminded us each time that someone greater than us helped create this Heaven we were visiting. The setting and lodge is amazing with the main lodge built on a dune with direct sight on a well lit waterhole. The accommodation is very very spacious As the rooms are some 15m x 6m Will be returning..... Andrew & Marieta Dugmore
