Impossible to sleep. The rooms are poorly darkened and the electricity generator seems to be on the roof and makes a deafening noise. The staff at the front desk makes no effort to solve a problem or think with us. Apart from that, the restaurant terrace has insanely beautiful views to both and the staff there is friendly,

Response from Ryan Crosley, General Manager at Jozini Tiger Lodge and Spa

Good day to you sir, Thank you for your review. Unfortunately we have no control over our generator and we have had to take the stance of providing an uninterrupted power source when needed vs the noise that it makes. I will have a discussion with my front office manager about your stay here.

We stayed at the Villa. It was lovely, spacious with a beautiful view of the dam. The staff were always friendly, we has some minor items that we needed assistance with, and maintenance was also efficient to resolve and always done with a smile. Breakfast was lovely, and the kids enjoyed the activities planned by the lodge. We will definitely visit again.

I recently stayed at the Jozini Lodge. While there were several challenges during our 3N stay, the staff made great efforts to address our concerns and ensure our comfort. The guest recovery from the management team was swift and commendable. I appreciated the post stay feedback sent to me from the management advising that all my concerns had been dealt with. As such, we would consider returning in the future. I should mention that the Spa was very good and the tiger fishing was loads of fun and ticked a bucket list item for me.

For a couple of hours today we meandered through rural northern KwaZulu on the P447, P449 between Sodwana and Jozini. As usual I was blown away by the scenery. The blood of my ancestors called to the herds of beautiful big and fat Nguni cattle we passed along the way. I spent time gaping at the width of the dirt road and speculating as to why a four lane highway was needed. Finally, we spotted the gentlemen and his grader and realised, he must love playing with his toy. Gwarking at sugar cane not expected in places, dust smothered trees and more cows. Sometimes one needs to leave the main road, wander through the back roads of life to appreciate Gods splendour. We spent most of the day travelling in silence, it was that kind of day. Feeling nostalgic this morning as we arrived at Tiger Lodge, this place is just beautiful, there are no superlatives that do it justice. It rests peacefully in the bustling chaos of the little town of Jozini. Not 3 years ago we visited during my 50th year celebrations. Today, I learnt what I have always called Jozini Dam is called Pongola Poort Dam. The hotel sits perched on the side of the hill over looking the dam. The staff friendly, the food it’s ok fair no gourmet offering but it’s the place that makes the heart beat soar. There are boats you can take on the river but this time I visited to sit at one on nature.

The lodge and spa was okay. I would not rate it out of the ordinary, it was what is expected of a 4 star hotel. The food was bland though, except for the wors on Saturday dinner - the braaiedwors was good. The boat cruise was more of a party cruise than a boat cruise. I suppose the establishment wanted to attract the locals and not necessarily tourists. I wanted to learn more about the area, the dam, how and when it was established, the number of litres of waters, etc…but only got “gom” music. That’s okay, but didn’t cater for me. The spa experience was bland - I’ve had better. The people spoke isiZulu just because I’m black, which is not acceptable because an establishment should be able to accommodate every black person, not just Zulus, so that is something which must improve. I shouldn’t have to learn the language on my getaway, but should be accommodated using a universally accepted standard - English. All in all, the getaway was good. I expected it to be spectacular, from reviews. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I probably wouldn’t visit here again unless if I had to, because I’m in transit between Mozambique or Swaziland. It’s most probably the most decent place to have a sleep over when in transit between neighbouring countries. Thanks to everyone who made my stay pleasant.

Review based on expectations of a four star hotel facility that also markets that it caters for children. Poor overall experience. Dirty bathroom. Dirt toilet with yellow dirt from urine. Dirty knobs in room. VERY VERY poor customer experience due to 99% of staff that are not friendly, do not appear accommodating at all. One staff members stood out: Khosi. The two members at activity desk were especially poor in communication and were not friendly. Range of activities are limited and not child friendly. For instance a paddle boat but only two adults and a child. The activity desk said sorry I cannot go on with my husband and two and four year old at the same time. No proactive planning to address activities for kids on cruises. Cruises are 150 to 200 more expensive than cruise compared to AfriCamps. No drinks or snacks included, compared to AfriCamps that include some beverages. We booked a game cruise that got canacelld due to wind at 8h40. But at 9h15 there was no wind. When we asked if they would consider a cruise later it was said it is not possible. We are convinced that the cruise was canceled due to other reasons and they lied. This is because we called AfriCamps and they do a wildlife cruise as well. They said wind is not an issue it is an ideal day. We booked a cruise with them later in the day much cheaper and beverages included. Dinner evening 1: veggies were all raw NOT aldente. The chef and team are incompetent. Carvery was very tuff. Breakfast: in general the omelet, scramble and friend egs were bad. Cook needs some lessons. A simple training issue of staff to look out for kids and offer smaller cutlery when their mouths cannot handle big spoons or forks is lacking. We can ask but four star hotel staff need to be trained to look out for things like this. On arrival reception handed our key and walked to a balcony pointing to block 3 where we stay. Not the reception one expects from a four star hotel. At the pool there is no staff to take drink orders. Again not what one expects when paying for a four star hotel. We checked into a hotel loft for family if 4 and only got 2 sets of towels. Upon requesting more towels in the morning to shower it arrived 30min later... I drip driedand used the wet towel shared by my kids and husband. All in all way too much money for poor service and bad reception staff. I did not once feel welcome. The culture needs serious attention.

Our stay at Jozini tiger lodge was impeccably catered for . The hotel rooms were on point , clean and the break taking views of the Jozini lake just added further dimension to our stay. The chef ( Mr Wiseman ) went out of his way to cater for our individual needs. The choice of variety in meals ...added value to our gastronomical culinary experience. The tiger fishing opportunities were a keen fisherman's paradise. Definitely will be back. Larry Naidoo

Hotel rooms are beautifully situated with gorgeous views over the Jozini Dam. The restaurant and pool are nice but crowded. Food not diverse enough with lots of red meat and starch. No chef in attendance. Little fish. Buffet not best setup for Covid.
