I booked a night at Hippo Pod and was shocked. Amy the reservationist never answered the phone when I wanted to enquire about parking possibilities. The chap at reception was poorly trained. The rooms in reality do not look like the website, the place is dirty, people smoke in the rooms and pods are not lockable as per the description on the website. The website promoted false advertisement. I had to upgrade at my own cost into a double private room, where bedside lamps had no bulbs. Common areas dirty with eaten chicken bones everywhere. Was pleased to leave following morning.

The hostel has a good location, however its difficult to locate when you first arrive. There was a problem with our reservation when we arrived as we booked for 3 people and were only given 1 bed (I never knew if it was the hostels fault or hotels.com problem).

The hostel was clean, however the lockers were difficult to use. The pictures look much better than the reality. The bunks have tv and people may leave it on during night making it difficult to sleep

Staff was helpful with contacting us with a tour guide that took us on their private car to Cape of Good Hope and to see the penguins

The worst kind of false advertising I’ve ever come across - beware!!! Do not trust the website and visuals - it is pure false advertising. The place is a dump - the photos of the rooms and what you get are completely different!

A lady nearly lost her life in Hippo Pod, Forshore Cape Town CBD, last night, due to them not having fire detectors, as stipulated by law.
Neither do they have evacuation plans or any lawful protocol, should a fire break out as it did there last night.
A fire broke out on a room whereby the only way people were evacuated, was through word-of-mouth physically. It was due to a guest smelling smoke, that the fire was detected in the first place.
They claim to have functioning 24 hour security, but the cameras don't work haven't been working, because the owners failed to pay their bill to the security company, rendering the cameras as placebos, whilst in reality, guests are vulnerable to crime.
Ask the owners where they get their water from...
This fire last night will hopefully shine a spotlight on the unscrupulous attitude and actions of their owners, who put their guest's and public at large at risk

Thank you Monica for warm welcome and taking your time to explain how the hotel works as it was unfamiliar with me. You made my stay pleasant by always availing yourself whenever I needed your assistance.

Staff have no customer service skills, the facilities are nothing like the website. Full of drunk kids and prostitutes, loud partying all night. Should not be allowed to call it a hotel. More like a youth hostel on drugs.
