Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
We spent two night here on the way to Balito and can’t fault Lalaria. It’s very small but lovely and clean with good sized rooms. There’s a very cute honesty bar and stunning views of the beach. Tony and Linda are consummate hosts and nothing is too much trouble, extremely helpful people. We had dinner with them after we left and had a wonderful evening. Thoroughly recommended!

Lalaria lodge is a great place to spend a night en route to or from Durban Airport which is an easy 20 minute drive away. The lodge is quiet and friendly with spacious rooms and comfortable beds. The public space is generous with spectacular views over the coast. We enjoyed swimming on the local beach and in the pool. Breakfast is individually prepared and there's a well stocked bar. Friendly service makes Lalaria a delightful alternative to an impersonal hotel.

Lalaria is absolutely gorgeous. The set up and flow of the house is easy and you get an undisturbed view the ocean. Easy access to the beach and shops close by made our stay more enjoyable. The location is perfect and the space was perfect for 12, everyone loved the house and had a very enjoyable weekend.

We booked at the recommendation of previous guests, whom we met last year, after we had had a less than satisfactory visit to the Oyster Box. We were welcomed and given a beautiful room on the top floor with a view of both the pool and the sea. We arrived at 7pm, for a one night stay on our way north to the Drakensberg Mts, after an 8 hour flight from Dubai and didn't feel like going out. Linda immediately offered to get us a "takeaway" and put a glass of wine in our hands. Room was very comfortable and breakfast delicious. Excellent service. We will come again.

We spent a wonderful New Year at Lalaria, welcoming 2017 looking out at the stunning fireworks along the beach. Hosts Tony and Lynda could not have been more accommodating, organising taxis and offering to arrange dinner reservations. The room we had was phenomenal, clean and spacious with fantastic sea views. Breakfast delivered by the team every morning was delicious, with hot and cold options, tea, coffee and juices. Staff really couldn't do enough for us. This was tremendous value for money and we would highly recommend this B&B to anyone.

Hidden up a little back road, Dolphin Crescent, is this gem of a b&b. Our room was immaculate and had sea views in two directions. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious, with both a large bath and a shower. Our host and hostess were very friendly, chatting to us and giving us valuable information for our trip while we ate a delicious breakfast. We would highly recommend Lalaria Lodge as a place to stop for a night or two. It is within twenty minutes' drive of Durban's airport but does not suffer from aircraft noise. Shakas Rock itself we did not find particularly exciting, although the beach is beautiful. We arrived the day after a mini-typhoon, so the weather was not particularly good but the beach was very dramatic. We would have liked to stay another night but our itinerary did not allow it.

We booked Lalaria Lodge as a place to stop over after the flight from the UK, before beginning our tour around KwaZulu Natal. Such a lovely welcoming place with an ocean view to die for! Superb room, thank you kindly for the unexpected but very much appreciated upgrade, with everything you could need and more. Lindsay and Barry are delightful hosts who are more than happy to advise and assist with dinner reservations and taxi bookings, as well as finding the time to sit and chat with you over a few drinks! Breakfast was a delicious selection of cold and hot, cooked to order. Perfect! Only stayed here the one night which on reflection was a bit of a mistake!

We spent two days at Lalaria and enjoyed it very much. The rooms are excellent and spacious, the house being situated wonderfully above the beach. Linda and Tony are exceptionally welcoming and helpful hosts and offer food of superb quality. Highly recommendable!

We spent 3 nights here at the end of 3 busy weeks touring South Africa - to chill and top up our tans. Unfortunately it rained most of the time - but we had a very comfortable room with sea views,TV and WiFi and the house has many relaxing areas both inside and out plus an honesty bar. Our hosts Tony & Linda couldn't have been more helpful and recommended and organised taxis to a different restaurant each evening. Highly recommended.

Great locality, saw dolphins from the terrace at breakfast. Tony & Linda went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and sent us off with great directions for our next stop. Very comfortable rooms and delicious breakfast.Highly recommended.
