We stayed for 2 nights on 25 and 26 July, dinner B&B. The room was modern and a good size. The only problem was the wash basin which is too small for the tap design. If you turn the tap on too fully you will get completely soaked, as I did!! The bed was comfortable and it was nice to have a choice of pillows. The evening meals were limited in choice but enjoyable nonetheless. We were sat on a table next to another couple and it was an amazing coincidence that it was both husbands’ birthdays! A special mention to Jasmine who was so lovely and even brought us all a complimentary celebratory glass of bubbles!! The breakfasts were ok but it was surprising to see so many people not wearing masks around the hotel or when not eating in the restaurant. Overall, we had a pleasant Stay and we were pleased we booked it.

This is a nice hotel but I feel it could be even better. Communal areas needed a better clean, such as corridor carpets etc. Food in the bar was excellent and very good value. Pool and gym are way too small for the size of the hotel especially during Covid19.

We have just checked out after a 2 night stay at this lovely hotel. We were very impressed with every aspect of our break. The room was lovely, very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean with amazingly comfortable beds. Great shower in a nice bathroom. Food in the restaurant was gorgeous. My partner is vegan and there was plenty of choice which is quite unusual. Staff were all friendly and extremely helpful. A credit to the hotel. We used the pool and jacuzzi to help relax at the end of our day after a drive out to Hexham, Blanchland etc and it was a great way to switch off. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a break away in lovely surroundings. Can't wait to return.

Initially we booked a 2 bed apartment for 3 women for a wedding dress fitting nearby. As result of pandemic, wedding postponed, but as hotel non refundable wife and I decided to go and have couple of nights away. Prior to our trip we were contacted by the wedding coordinator to say there had been an issue and our room wasn’t available. To be fair they sourced an Airbnb flat nearby, which looked nice, rather than just cancel the booking. When coordinator realised that party was now just wife and myself she said that was easier as they had a mini-suite we could have and they would comp us our dinner one night. They asked us if we would prefer bar or restaurant for dinner. We chose bar. So far so good. So we set off on Friday after work and arrived around 19:30. Tried to check in to be told we didn’t have a booking. So while wife was looking for the email from coordinator to say we had a booking another member of staff, Nicola, arrived and knew about us and said we did have a booking ( I cannot mention enough how good Nicola was throughout this comedy of errors). So we were told our room was ready and one staff member was going to put our pre ordered bottle of Prosecco in room and check room was ok. We did think this was a little strange but didn’t question it. Staff member returned shortly, still with Prosecco in hand and had a brief but rather tense looking conversation with Nicola. Nicola apologised to us again and said we should go to the bar and she comp’d us a drink to let her get our room sorted. To do this she asked another member of staff ( young guy) to go round and tell the person running bar we had to have a drink on the house, when we ordered drinks no one at bar knew about them being free, so I had to pay. Finished drinks and we were getting close to time we had pre booked table for dinner. So I wandered round to reception and said should we go get our meal and they could let us know what room we were in when we had finished dinner. Nicola again apologised said that would be great she would get it sorted and get our case taken to room and come find us to give us key. So off we went and had dinner, again due to pandemic when eating in bar you need to order and pay by a third part app. So we did this, just finished main course (food was nice) and Nicola appeared. Seems someone was in the mini-suite we should have been in. So we were now being put in a premier/superior room in hotel. We said ok but explained we had to pay for our comp’d drink. As it was paid through app she couldn’t refund but got us another drink each and said she had upgraded our comp meal to the restaurant. Nicola also refunded one night of our stay for the hassle we’d had. If there was an award for Best Customer Service at the Derwent Manor, Nicola would win it, hands down! Breakfast next day all good with no drama, meal at night bit of a different story. Shown our seats and told meal was comp’d but we had to pay for our own drink. Starters all good. Wife chose lasagna for main - served in pasta bowl with possibly one sheet of pasta pretty much no béchamel sauce and meat sauce tasted more like tomato and mince with cheese grated over it. Very disappointing so she left it. Mine was even funnier, read menu and landed on pork medallions with baked apple. So this is probably my fault too but think our server should at the very least checked with me. When my meal arrived on my plate was three medallions (over cooked) and a baked apple. That was it, no veg or carbs. When I looked at menu again when picking sweet all other mains came with carbs and veg for some reason mine didn’t and if I wanted them £4.25 each for veg and potatoes! So still both hungry as wife pretty much only had starter and while I faired bit better I was only three pork medallions ahead. So she picked tiramisu I went for Panna cotta with berry jam. So my panna cotta had way too much gelatine and there was no sign of berry jam did have some fresh berries though, didn’t finish this as not great. Though again I faired better than wife. When she put her fork through tiramisu clear liquid flowed out. I asked if it was a coffee liqueur ( I hate coffee so wouldn’t even try it) she said she thought it was water as it pretty much washed any taste away. So didn’t eat any of it. Did think it was odd that despite fact we left most of our meals on plate no server asked if everything was ok. Honestly wasn’t very impressed with serving staff at all. They weren’t rude just seemed disinterested and did not give particularly good customer service. Also on the less than stellar service while our room was serviced, bed made and bathroom tidied. Drinks glasses were left and tea and milk were not replenished. I drink a lot of tea so was not best pleased. While meal debacle was ongoing noticed that couple sitting next to us were given a different menu which had far more/better choice and their menus had different heading on top. So looks like the whole hotel was sorry they screwed up our booking not once but twice they weren’t really that sorry as we were given a restricted menu ( suspect it’s the dinner bed and breakfast menu) and we had to pay for our own drinks. While we were there we seen at least two possibly three weddings going on. Suspect to secure weddings they had to give them the appartments we had booked and that’s why wedding coordinator was one who initially contacted us to tell us we couldn’t get what we booked. All in all a shame as looks like nice hotel in lovely grounds and my wife et all will be back in the area for wedding dress fitting as looks like we can have wedding now. Fairly sure she will not book this hotel though as, despite the Herculean efforts of Nicola to sort it out, unfortunately she alone cannot make up for the poor service elsewhere throughout the hotel.
