Naara Eco-Lodge & Spa is a luxury safari tent lodge and adventure heaven located behind the Indian Ocean's sand dune, in the coastline of Mozambique. Built on the banks of a 25kms fresh water lake and less than 2kms from the beach, Naara consists of only 10 units nestled in 2 hectares of indigenous African bush. Naara is equally located about 250kms from Maputo, Inhambane and the Kruger Park (Giriyondo Post Border), making it a perfect stop on an amazing Safari-Beach trip. While staying at Naara you can do so much! You can snorkel in protected reefs, kitesurf, fish, ride canoe and stand-up paddles, ride horses on the beach, ride tick-tires sand bicycle, walk among the local community, swim in desert beaches, and so much more! You can also relax in the pool, in our hammocks and resting spots or while receiving a massage in our Spa! At Naara we value sustainable tourism and we have been awarded as a Fair Trade Tourism initiative, as we maintain high social and environmental values.

Naara Eco Lodge is a beautiful place to relax. The location right at the lake and immersed in nature offers itself for a break from the busy work life in the city. There are various little spots to sit and sunbathe, read a book or you can be active by exploring the lake in a kayak. The tents are separated such that one feels almost alone in nature and can enjoy privacy. The food was excellent and I loved the coffee&cake waiting for us at our tent to start the day. Finally, service was great. All staff members were always friendly and helpful and made any request possible. We will definitely come back!

We had the most amazing, restful holiday at Naara Lodge in July 2020. It really is a beautiful lodge, in an exquisite location overlooking the lake, near the beach, and with wonderful bird life to enjoy. But its the staff that make Naara Lodge very, very special. The service, care, and attention was truly exceptional. Of course we must join other reviewers in celebrating the chef, and the delicious, fresh food he and his team produced for every meal. My husband is diabetic, and we were blown away by the chef’s knowledge and willingness to accommodate our dietary needs. We stayed during COVID-season, and everyone’s diligence and care for our health and safety was particularly appreciated. Waking up to tea and coffee served on our veranda, watching the sunrise and the lake changing with the light, and the kindness of the staff, will remain treasured memories of our time at Naara.

Me & my husband stayed for my birthday and wedding anniversary this August. The service was beyond our expectation, the staffs were very attentive & helpful. Food was really good, I love the grilled fish & lobster. In the beginning, the food was a bit salty, so if you prefer less salt/on diet, you have to ask them when you order your food. At the end, we gained some weight after staying in Naara.

Our trip was not only romantic and relaxing, but it was also magical. We went for whale watching, for the first time ever. I usually have a seasick so I told the staff that I only want to go during good calm weather. And surprisingly, on my 3rd day of staying, they called us telling that there will be whale watching today. We were on the ocean for about 2 hours & we saw many many whales. It was life changing, I fell in love with Mozambique since then..

I recommend anyone who loves nature, adventure & to try new things but still enjoying 5 stars hospitality service to stay in Naara. We would love to come again with our family in the future.

We were highly expectant of the trip to Naara judging from the website pictures. We arrived late afternoon on a Friday to a very unenthusiastic almost annoyed reception. The dinner was below par with over cooked dry and chewy calamari and dried out chorizo smothered in shop bought sauce.
Booked a massage and facial for the next day at 8am only for the therapist to arrive at 9.30am. It gave me enough time to look through the spa cupboards to find hardly any product for facial and nearly empty bottle of massage oil. Not enticing!!
Breakfast was a dismal fail. I’ve uploaded a picture. They provide early morning tea and coffee with cake in plasticware... quite off-putting.
We spent the day swimming and requested lunch by the poolside tables. The waiter said the lodge charges for dining outside the restaurant - wow.
We booked for a fishing activity and were given scrawny looking twigs to use as rods. Had to fish from the deck because the advertised boat was not available.
Overall it’s not worth what they charge. The service is terrible. Staff need thorough training on hospitality.
The best part of our experience was the hammock by the pool.

Response from Leila de Paiva Oliveira, Proprietário at Naara Eco Lodge & Spa
Responded 27 Oct 2020
Dear Rudo, First, let us deeply express our sincere regrets for your experience. We proud ourselves for the excellent experiences our guests live in Naara and we are very surprised to read your review – which is so different from the last hundreds reviews we have received. You can be sure that we have looked at all your concerns and we will do our utmost to ensure that all our guests continue to have magic stays in Naara. I will try to address all your points below but before I would like to kindly ask your understanding that we are still living with the COVID19 pandemic, which continues to impact our ability to procure imported goods, which we often rely on. The difficulty of crossing the border under COVID19 has also prevented us from servicing our boat in Nelspruit where we usually go to. Unfortunately, our boat cannot be fixed in Mozambique due to limited mechanical abilities and parts. We are very sorry for this and we are trying to arrange someone with a SADC passport to cross the border with the boat (as we hold foreign passports from ‘high risk countries’ we are not allowed to transit between the countries – we tried 😊). We are hoping to have the boat fixed within the next few weeks. Regarding the SPA, we are sorry for the miscommunication. Our ground manager understood that you had not confirmed the appointment for Sunday morning and he therefore allowed the therapist to start later that Sunday as she had worked long hours on Saturday. Kindly please note that because our Spa is always open, we do not keep our expensive creams and disinfected tools and materials there. This is because guests – mainly children but adults sometimes too; have gone through the cabinets and used our products or touched tools that had been disinfected. Our therapist brings with her the products needed for each treatment, and I hope you can experience it sometime in the future. Regarding the morning cake, plunger coffee and tea we place in the guest’s balconies before they wake up so they can enjoy the peace of sunrise with a warm drink and a sweet taste, unfortunately because of little ants, we must place the cakes in sealed containers, so you can find a cake without ants when you wake up. We in fact use glass typeware with plastic lids - we could not find glass lids yet, but we will keep trying. Usually guests are quite appreciative about this, but we will look at alternatives that may look more appealing 😊. Regarding the lunch at the pool or in the bedrooms, bearing in mind that any of those are located at least 50 meters away from our restaurant, we indeed usually charge the standard hospitality ‘room service’, which goes directly to the waiters for the extra efforts they need to do to serve the food and refill drinks. I do however understand that after you complained about the small service fee, our manager did not charge you the fee and we served your lunch at the pool (the hotel paid the waiter’s service fee on your behalf). Regarding the food and breakfast, we are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your food. We have received quite a few good reviews about the chef, and we are puzzled to receive such a negative feedback. I personally also don’t like beans in breakfast, but we have many other choices for the breakfast, including freshly squeezed juice, fresh fruit salad, and choices for the hot meal, including omelets, pancakes and then the traditional, eggs, bacon and beans. Maybe next time you can try another dish. I will however see how we can improve the dish you complained about. Regarding the fishing at the lake, I am sorry again for the misunderstanding. But the lake fishing activity is artisanal as there are only little fishes there – it is more fun for kids and teens indeed. We have agreements with boats chatters that take our guests to deep sea fishing (our boat doesn’t go into the sea). That probably would be more aligned to your expectations of fishing. Following your complains, we will definitely run refresher training for our staff as we normally do. It is true that this year we really focused on hygiene, cleaning and COVID19 management trainings, and it is due time for us to run a refresher guest relations training. We hope to see you in the future. Kind Regards, Pablo & Leila

We enjoyed this place so much that we made a come back visit and it did not disappoint. We noticed little upgraded details such as ar conditioning in the rooms, name tags of staffs, and the structure of the place itself. Coincidently we stayed at the same tent and that was great for us. Staff continues to be friendly and available to meet any of our needs and always with a smile on their faces. Food is amazing, be sure to browse and explore their menu. To me and my life partner this has been and continues to be the best client service in Mozambique!!!

We stopped at Naara lodge for one night on our way to tofo beach to split the long trip (its 7 hours from maputo to tofo). We arrived at Naara in the early afternoon, they greeted us with some fruit juice. The place was very cured and beautiful. the lodges were very nice and cozy. the place is quite high level for Mozambique standards.
after leaving my bags I ordered a sandwich wich took 40 minutes and ended up being cold. For dinner we started ordering from the menu and we were soon told that many menu items weren’t actually available. The food that we ended up ordering took again a very long time to arrive and wasn’t very good. Also, of the 6 desserts shown on the menu none were available; In my opinion before putting things on the menu you should make sure to have the ingredients, and you should have at least one dessert available.
The night was very pleasant and they also bring you coffee or tea and cupcakes in bed in the morning if you choose to receive them. Breakfast however took again a long time and ended up being a bit low quality.
In general i would recommend this place if you don’t mind eating low quality food, but except for that everything else was great.
Thanks for reading!

Staff/ service: During our 2 Days visit to Naara lodge with one infant and one 5 year son was good if not great. The staff had been distinctively helpful and cheerful. They ensured our stay comfortable.

The Tents: Tents are located at good distance to ensure the privacy. The view were very good. The only problem is they are small. Toilets/baths are best suited for honeymoon couple than family.

Play area for kids is non-existing as lodge is constructed on cliff like terrace. Thea obviously means you don’t need to carry Stroller.

Food was superb,
Living area is inviting

We had a wonderful stay at Naara Eco-Lodge. Our accommodation was outstanding, the staff were obliging and friendly and our meals were all delicious. We are well travelled and honestly consider Naara a gem and would highly recommend staying there. We only stayed one night as we were en route North, another night would have been ideal.

The intimate hideaway to enjoy your vacation alone or with your family, full of peace and serenity, for 3 days. Great services (Camila was perfect from the beginning up to check-out time), the rooms were amazing and well-serviced. The "Naara treats" (miminhos da Naara) were a pleasant surprise in the mornings. The kids loved the activities in the lake. Couldn't recommend more...
