We stayed in this hotel in 1997 and then heard it was closed for many years.
Recently, whilst planning a road trip I found that this gem had been bought and reopened by a local couple so we decided to add Rhodes to our route!

The hotel is showing its age but the hospitality offered by Sandra and her husband completely overwhelms any misgivings one may have upon arrival.

Sandra is ever present, smiling and incredibly friendly. She is an excellent chef, producing superb dinners and breakasfts over our two night stay.

Sadly there are no guest supplies in the bathrooms and some finer touches are yet to come but our room was meticulously clean, well serviced with good linen, electric blankets, piping hot water and most comfortable.

Sandra and her husband are to be congratulated on their hospitality, warmth and endeavours. They will, no doubt return the Rhodes Hotel to be a good, comfortable and most pleasant experience for their guests. they deserve great success. We will most certainly be back......

I have travelled through Rhodes years ago and on my last visit, I was delighted to learn that the iconic Rhodes Hotel was under new management. We were treated to freshly baked bread on the rolling lawn whilst the friendly staff catered to our every vegitarian need. The hotel hosts a surprisingly well stocked bar and stunning venue. Our room enjoyed a quaint original built in fire place and the most comfortable king sized bed! We will definitely prioritize the trip again.

We stopped at the Rhodes Hotel unexpectedly for an evening. Wow - what a pleasure. We walked into the old bar area, made cosy by a roaring fireplace, with plenty of cold drinks. Later in the evening, we were truly spoilt with a home-made meal served in the grand old dining room: oven-baked bread, soup, curry, chicken pie and ending with apple pie. The accommodation is simple but warm and clean, with electric blankets on the beds and a coffee station. An abundant breakfast greeted us the next morning before we headed off on our way. We would love to return

Besides the wonderful setting the Rhodes Hotel was full of charm and the service and hospitality was outstanding. The new mangers were on hand and ready to help with every request.

It was wonderful eating under the stars and watching the bread being baked in the outside oven.

The men went fishing on the owners farm and the fresh fish was served beautufully with our break fast on Sunday.

We wiil be back

We were welcomed by new management that went out of their way to make our arrival as comfortable as they could. It is in a great location in the middle of Rhodes but still have great views. Will highly recommend staying here.

Rhodes Village is a unique destination. The original styled cottages from the late 1800’s with rose bush hedges, line the sandy roads of this tiny village creating the freedom and tranquility of a bygone era. Children play in the streets and ride their bikes, carefree, visiting other families and holiday makers, just like the old days. Sandra, the new proprietor of the Rhodes Hotel, has been working none stop with her local team to revive this historical landmark to its former glory. The surrounding area is an outdoor adventure seeker’s dream boasting scenic drives, hikes for all ages, trout fishing and river swims. 4x4’s recommended.

We had such a wonderful experience at this hotel, as we found that it is build on hospitality and love. Sandra and Andre are very interesting poeple that are proud of their beautiful town and hotel. You can feel the love and enegy from them and when Andre, the big strong man that he is, comes over to shake your hand. It is then that you realize that he is extreamly well informed of the town and history. When this man smiles the world melts and you feel at home. Sandra has a deep passion for what she does and you feel like you are visiting her at her home rather than being in a hotel. She cooks the meals and I have to say......her children are lucky.......soul food and then some. After chatting to her, I realised that she is a strong and dinamic person but best of all is her clear vission of what this hotel should be.......not perfect but absolutely perfect the way it is.
I would also like to mention the very friendly and energetic young floor manageres, that was always available and willing to help with advise and lasltly pleas look out for "Genus" the residant dog. He has a great attitude.
Loved it all and will go back a 1000 times

Thank you for all, Rohan and Charmaine

Visiting the hotel & town is like taking a trip back in time (but there is wifi in the bar area). The hotel is very well priced and the food delicious. As there are no shops nearby I would recommend staying here rather than doing self-catering.

For the second time in 2 years , the Rhodes Hotel welcomed our ever growing family for Christmas. We were a party of 32 people from elderly grandparents to young teens , plus an entourage of dogs, thank you Handre & Sandra for yet again pulling out all the stops & accommodating us all.

The rooms are very comfortable, the stoep is a perfect viewing point for all activity & the historic pub another story in itself .
The Afrikaans settlers brought the church to town & the English brought their clubs, they seemed to have found the perfect combination of spiritual & social gatherings.

Thank you both for bringing the village to life & keeping this historic hotel afloat.

Planning the next trip already

The Rhodes Hotel has risen again, after many years of gathering dust. Sandra is a very capable and endearing host, she manages the hotel with great care and efficiency. A visit to this great establishment takes one back to earlier days of slow living and refined hospitality..well done!
