Chocas is one of my favourite locations in Mozambique and Carrusca serves as a good option for budget stay right at the beach. The rooms are pretty small but have the basic amenities – air conditioner, hot water, mosquito net, towels, blankets but no toiletries. The options for food at the restaurant are very limited and usually contain only two or three main course dishes. The beach is very clean with white sand and clear water. The waves are ideal for swimming and the scenic beauty around is ideal for photography. It is better to carry some snacks and other necessary items like torch, medicine, toiletries etc. as the place is a bit secluded and there isn’t any convenience store nearby. Overall, Carrusca is excellent for a short and budget stay amidst nature.

We had six in our party and stayed four days. It is not for someone who wants to be pampered. We brought cooking pots and basically "camped" in our hut. We cooked for ourselves, much cheaper than the restaurant and better too! We bought our seafood from the fishermen: shrimp, crabs, clams, lobster, and fish. All straight from the sea! All together our meals were less than $15.00 US. The beach was to die for. We were up early every day, and out on the beach by 8 am. We watched the fishermen go out in their boats, and the women get really to dig clams in the coral. We swam, and sat and enjoyed the company of each other, as we were the ONLY people there. Don't expect 1st class accommodations, but the huts are good enough for sleeping. Not super clean, and the nets are full of holes, so be careful of the mosquitoes. There were a few dogs that wandered around, but didn't bother us. all in all, a fantastic get away.

Carrusca is possibly one of my favorite beaches in Mozambique. With white beaches that stretch for miles and the most beautiful blues you will ever see the water is always bath temperature and so inviting.
We booked and were allocated Casa one which is closest to the bar and restaurant which concerned me as I thought we would be disturbed by the noise - however this was not the case and we felt totally secluded and private with the option to view what was happening. We self catered as I have been numerous times before and know that the restaurant has such terrible service and the food is mediocre.

There is a barbecue facility but you must take everything from charcoal to your own cutlery etc. There is a tiny kitchenette with bar fridge which is nice but when you are a large group of 5 or 6 people which Casa one can accommodate it is not enough -larger fridge/ freezers should be considered.

The rooms are small and clean however basic touch ups should be considered. Daily cleaning was needed however not offered. Dust bins both inside and outside are not cleaned or emptied during the stay and this too I had to ask for and it wasn't done.

This place is special should you wish to come and relax self cater with basic accommodation however if management considered small changes like daily cleaning, basic room maintenance and perhaps a staff member to clean the out side areas before guests wake up this would totally change the atmosphere.

But go with an open mind and be organized and you will love it as we did. We bought bread daily in the nearby village and seafood from the fishermen. We stayed up late talking around a fire under the stars, spent mornings on the beach until it got too hot then lazed in the hammocks on the veranda of our Casa. Pure relaxation.

We will be back.

It was one of the worst experiences that I had. We had a day trip to the restaurant on Thursday 7th January. They distinguished themselves by taking 1h15m to deliver a simple meal, and by having me bed-bound with the worst intoxication ever.

My husband and I came to Carrusca Mar & Sol for lunch after visiting a pretty island nearby on a Dhow tour. While the beach is very pretty, the service is seriously terrible! We were the only ones at the restaurant, however, the waiter was extremely grumpy with us and didn’t make us feel welcome at all. They didn’t have everything on the menu and the food was just average. The restaurant has all the potential in the world. Placed in a secluded area, beautiful empty beach, but the infrastructure lacks maintenance and the service is really really bad. The manager should take care! Word around Ilha was to avoid this place since new management took over.

We stayed 3 nights and were a party of 5, my family and two singles. The singles stayed on the loft. We self catered and were ready with everything needed, from pots, utensils, charcoal etc.
Very good price for comfortable accommodations and the most beautiful beach ever!
Very secluded, full privacy.
Not much to buy around besides seafood. Not worth buying even coconut and fruit locally. We asked someone who worked there to buy some for us and the price was very high. Next time we go we'll take everything.
Shower wasn't very nice either, though it was hot.
The only thing that really bothered us was seeing what was obvious sex tourism happening right there.

I have stayed 3 nights with my daughter, had an excellent time. The beach is very near the bungalow, and is my favorite beach in Mozambique: calm and turquoise water, white sand, quiet beach, perfect for walks in both directions. The bungalows are tastefully designed, made of local materials, are far apart providing a maximum of privacy. Our bungalow was clean, spacious, and containing all you need, including hot water. The restaurant is good and the cook was creative in serving us good vegetarian meals. Carrusca arranges boat tours to Ilha de mocambique, either by dow or motor boat.

We booked and stayed in Chalet no 4 the largest ,accommodates up to 8 people.
Two couples and their two kids each.
We were 3 adults.Took the 2 air conditioned rooms.
Unfortunately in the last bedroom closest to the kitchen, the person sleeping there caught, an skin borne disease,of a form of BED BUGS,she is a qualified Doctor,so we spent time looking for Calamine solution and anti histamine cream etc.
Otherwise the BEACH is perfect as is the Sea,Fantastic views, the fishermen are there and you can purchase fresh lobsters, calamari,Crabs ,prawns etc for a very reasonable price !!!

Decided to camp, the camp site is on the far side. Pretty secluded, with it's own boma area which we got to ourselves plus great toilets and showers. The staff looking after the camp area were always available to offer assistance. Overall, just wanted a laid back chilled spot to hang for a few days, would've been hard to beat this place - we'll definitely return.

This place has a big untapped potential but it lacks maintenance and the service is very bad. At the restaurant, apart from having to wait an hour for your meal, they did not have half of the menu. The rooms are very basic and with maintenance problems, such almost no water coming from the shower, lamps not working, very small mosquito nets that almost do not cover the bed, etc. It is a shame because the potential is there. I would not recommend this place and I am not going back.
