If staying in a select tropical beach front paradise is for you then read on. Unspoilt remote beach with great snorkelling, only 3 rooms! Yes only 6 guests, pelicans diving for fish daily outside your room, passionate staff, hotel only accessible by boat ( so sometimes menu choice is limited) Super yachts mooring offshore to enjoy the snorkelling and excellent sunset shots from the hotel bar. The experience is quirky but the most relaxing enjoyable stay we have had for a long time. Perfect for those wanting a Robinson Crusoe get away from it all experience
Union island has a lot to offer - including island hopping, Clifton shopping and vibe, smaller hikes or simply enjoy numerous beaches. Chatham bay is its pearl and Tenute lodges are its oyster. Whatever your heart desires - Antonio and his team will make miracles happen. Lodges are super cozy and high standards. And though sailing enthusiasts come over for a drink, the place feels all to your self at most of the times. Amazing piece of paradise in close proximity of the sailing buzz if you get island sick :)
Firstly, Tenuta is remote. To some, like my wife and I, this is a HUGE plus. To others more used to having everything at their fingertips from superfast wifi to the perfectly curated latte or dim sum etc etc. this will not be such a good thing. So if you are self-aware enough to understand your own needs and if you realise you are demanding in your expectations then this might not be the place for you. We had zero complaints, yes somethings could be picked upon, but really only if you are overtight and don't understand where you are. We LOVED IT. Its important to realise that Union Island is at the end of the line when it comes to islands in the Eastern Caribbean, it takes effort to reach there, Tenuta is at the end of Union Island! Accessible best by boat, it is therefore at the very end of the supply chain, like I say to us that is a huge bonus. On top of this, the property has only 3 rooms (which are lovely, we stayed in two of them over our time on property having been moved to the beach front cottage once the previous occupants left). With so few rooms you cannot expect the resort to hold huge amounts of every single thing especially consumable and perishable food items. So it pays to be easy going and roll with it. When you take this into consideration, it is amazing how well they do to ensure the quality of food they do, which was very good. The fish is always cooked to perfection and Vicky the chef is always amenable to fix you something local or treat you to a surprise dish if you ask her. We loved her soups, her chinese pork and saltfish bakes in particular. And the local Sunday Lunch she made specially for us was top notch. Leisa is on hand to provide you with drinks and serve your meals. She will always do her best to ensure you have what you need, just ask!!! Antonio, the owner was on property throughout our stay and he worked SUPER HARD to ensure the resort's amenities ran smoothly. From the generator, to the desalination plant, to the wifi (which is spotty, but it is across the island and the whole Grenadines so not their fault), to the pool, to everything else, he was always working to ensure the property was running smoothly. We marvelled at this energy and endurance. He is very engaging and friendly as are Leisa, Vicky and Pants (yes Pants is his name) the groundsman. The thing is people in Union Island are very friendly, but like most of us are proud and eager to please. That said they do not appreciate being berated or spoken down to etc. When I read some of the reviews on this property I get a sense of those who wrote them and realise they just chose the wrong location for their vacation, which sucks for them. And I understand their frustrations, but the people of Union Island, again like most of us, will not respond well to strident and aggressive demands. Be laidback, be friendly, be genuine and you will be rewarded. We certainly were. Our time at Tenuta was idyllic from start to finish. The location is beyond magical. If you like seclusion and are laidback enough to not stress over the little things in life, this place is perfection. The rooms are well sized, the bathrooms over sized. The beds are super comfy and the linens and towels are all good quality. The pool, restaurant and bar area is all open plan and super photogenic. Our phones are full of fabulous photos. The snorkelling is great right off the beach, be careful how you enter the water as the rocky shelf is clear of urchins in front of the hotel but they are in the crevices of the rock further along the beach. I have never seen so many fish and I have had the privilege to snorkel and dive in many places. Seeing a number of octopus, caribbean electric rays, turtles, and other wonderful species was a real treat. The transfer by boat was fun and not your normal hotel transfer. Embrace it, it's a cool experience. The walk up and out of Chatham Bay is well worth the effort for the stunning views from above. Get in touch with the Union Island Environmental Attackers, the local conservation NGO and take a guided hike of the forest reserve above the resort. You will be rewarded with a mountain of knowledge, great views and cool hike. All in all it was two of the best weeks we have had in the region and we will be back for sure. Thanks Antonio, Leisa, Vicky and Pants!…
My boyfriend and I (24 and 21)stayed here for his birthday and never in my life have I enjoyed a trip so much. The food is phenomenal, the water gorgeous. The resort itself is relaxing and quiet if you want to go out and meet people, there are two other restaurants along the bay where boats and yachts that anchor at night will come and eat, making it easy to to meet new people. Our cottage was the smallest, right at the beach but its was more than spacious with a comfortable bed and a large, luxury bathroom. The staff is absolutely phenomenal. We WILL be back!!!! Highly, highly recommended!
Issues related to stay at Tanuta Chatham Bay 11th - 18th March 2020 1. Transfer from the water taxi at Tanuta was extremely dangerous as the dock had been damaged by a storm the previous day. It would have been safer to have made a “wet landing”. 2. The beach front bungalow we were shown had a badly broken glass front door which had been crudely taped and we were told it was still “safe”. 3. We asked to see the other 2 bungalows, one of which also had broken glass windows, and opted to move to the only one with no broken glass. However none of the bungalows reflected the quality indicated by the price or website details. 4. We had to request the pillow cases were changed as they were stained. 5. There was a Nespresso coffee machine but no coffee pods available or nearby power socket to use it with. It had not been emptied of used pods from the previous occupant. 6. On three separate days they ran out of bottled water for the room (2 bottles of soda water were provided instead), same applied to gin and red wine. 7. On two consecutive days the room was not cleaned nor was the small rubbish bin emptied so that we had to leave empty water bottles by the full bin. We kept the room tidy. 8. For 3 days there was no hot water for the shower. There was no shampoo at all. 9. The electricity cut out on a daily basis because clearly the generator is working at the limit of capacity. 10. The food was very limited in choice, the menus didn't change, food was poorly cooked, sometimes inedible and there was no option for coffee after the meal. 11. The swimming pool was empty on arrival and still not commissioned by the time we left so that was another amenity we had paid for which was not available to us. 12. Hospitality was sadly lacking throughout our stay. The limited staff of 3 were more interested in fiddling with mobile phones, chatting to each other or using a laptop while ignoring rare guests. 13. We were offered one trip to get us out of the way when a catamaran was due in but as that was cancelled the trip didn't happen. We were not offered the 2 trips we were told were included. 14. This is nowhere near or on the same planet as a 4 star resort which it is advertised to be. It is hard to see it getting one star let alone 4.…
Overall, experience was very good, rooms were big, and environment was nice. Location, appearance and all were very good. Overall, it was a good place to stay in at destination. The Behavior of the staff was friendly. I stayed in November.
Without a doubt one of the Best Place in the world to visit. The service is just marvelous. The best thing about the Chatham bay is that the staff are so friendly and professional. The room is extraordinary.. Period. I would like to visit again.
This place is fantastic to travel. Staff in the resort is very polite and helpful. It was an excellent experience in Chatham Bay food was also good .The horizon rooms are worth going for. They have got the spectacular view of the Lutyens . I will like to visit again.
This is an unusual and exceptionally peaceful and indeed beautiful place. You can't help but relax and we had a lovely stay here. Don't expect five star; there are only a handful of chalets so staff numbers relate to minimal visitor numbers. But there is always someone to help and the service was fine. The rooms are lovely, but need that extra tlc; coffee making but no teaspoons, that sort of thing. But loads of hot water, the biggest walk in showers I have ever seen etc. Lovely verandas with views that you can sit on for ever; we took beer up to our veranda rather than on the beachbar to watch the sunset. When I say beach bar, again think quiet; just the odd couple perhaps. It is actually well geared up for visiting yachts but the jetty is the wrong side and in a small dinghy it is easier to go down to the very far end of the beach and visit the cafe there. Actually it seems a shame because Tenuta has so much to offer but it is not maximizing its potential. No worries about getting there, small water taxis can take you there quickly through the smoothest brightest turquoise water you can imagine, and then just quickly round the headland which can be a tiny bit choppy but no problems. It is a quick and easy trip to this remote and special place. Birds, tortoises (we didn't see turtles)...and a friendly local dog who greets everyone. For anyone who wants some real peace, it has a lot to offer. …
Recently we have stayed in Tenuta Chatham Bay. My boyfriend and I fall in love in this hidden treasure hotel. Hotel has a private pool and beach where you can find peace and time for yourself. Cottage is located straight on a beach and the view from bed is looking straight over sea. Room is spacious and has really intimate atmosphere. Restaurant makes local specials which are very tasty. Also, don’t forget to get rum punch in the bar – it brings you to a true Caribbean mood.
