You’ve been getting up at 5.00am. You’ve been bouncing around in a Land Cruiser for 5 or 6 hours every morning. You’re tired and your back hurts. Then you arrive on the shore of Lake Kariba and everything changes. You’re at Musango Safari Camp. Conrad loads your luggage on to a roomy, floating pontoon and you glide across to Steve and Wendy’s island camp. The welcome is low key and personal – no dancing staff to greet you here! You can walk around without a man with a gun (the camp is protected from marauding hippo’s by an electric fence). You can rise when you like (but don’t miss the sunrise over the lake from your private veranda). You glide round the shores of the lake quietly on your shady pontoon, Steve pointing out the wildlife as you go. He calls in a fish eagle and

Stayed for 4 nights at the fantastic Musango Safari Camp. It felt like we were at home immediately and we were so well-looked after from the minute we arrived. The island is beautiful and we loved everything about the place. Wonderful staff, great food, beautiful lodges, the great bird hide and fab trips by boat and vehicle in the surrounding areas to see mammals and birds. Steve and Wendy are great hosts and we had a lot of fun with them. As a keen birder I was in my element seeing over 140 species in just 4 days. Steve is a great bird guide ably supported by Conrad and they went the extra mile to find us some species we still hadn't seen - with success! In the breeding season the birding would be even more spectacular. Can't recommend this place highly enough!

What a stunning peaceful location. Excellent food, comfortable rooms, wonderful lake safaris with helpful and courteous staff. The jewel in the crown is of course the irrepressible Steve and his delightful wife Wendy. Steve's knowledge is unsurpassed and Wendy is the perfect hostess. The sunset beach party was the icing on the cake.

We absolutely loved being in Musango Camp for the 4 nights. Steve and Wendy and their team were excellent hosts. We loved the island, the look of the rustic and well maintained rooms. They were clean, spotless, with the best amenities, a plunge pool and a cute little bird bath behind every room. It is hard to believe that the camp is many years old, every room looks perfectly new and upgraded. The host lives on the camp and the island is absolutely safe to wander in. Bush bucks come into the property freely but the hippos, elephants and other predators are kept out with an electric fence. There are number of birds both in the property and all around Lake Kariba and the national park. Steve is a lovely host and a wonderful ornithologist and photographer. He personally took care

We spent 4 nights at Musango Safari Camp earlier this month. Steve and Wendy were delightful hosts, ably assisted by Conrad, Sho and their team. The camp is rustic but very comfortable, with amazing birding opportunities from every spot of the camp ... The birdbaths outside each room are a nice touch! Steve's an absolute expert at birding, and promised to show us at least 100 different species over the time we were there; we finally ended at 106 with the last one just a few mins before we got on to the flight back. Can't wait to go back at a different time of year, to see what else we can spot! Not to forget, the food and service at the camp are excellent, and the salads and breads especially were incredibly fresh. Definitely a must-stay place!

We arrived at the Lodge by light aircraft, four wheel drive Land Rover and finally powered pontoon. Detached chalets offer excellent accommodation, colonial and rustic. The food is very good and buffet style with communal eating under the stars with owners Steve and Wendy. Amazing attention to detail, including our favourite fish and chips and apple crumble and custard for our final meal. Thanks to Conrad for taking us to the fishing village and showing us all those birds! It’s hard to put into words the peace and tranquility of this island paradise surrounded by hippo and crocs. We wish we were there now enjoying the resident bush bucks.

We decided to do a 4x4 road trip through Zimbabwe to Lake Kariba, fuel was not a problem we planned ahead through Zuva Fuel stations if you have a foreign card they find fuel for you. Police road blocks waved us through and were pleasant. We took the back dirt road from Karoi into Lake Kariba and the road was fine for a 4x4 vehicle. Our stay at Musango Safari camp was amazing - Steve and Wendy Edwards offer superb hospitality and Steve is known as one of Zimbabwe's top Guides, The food was excellent - drinks were always ice cold, a Christmas we will never forget. From Kariba we drove the back dirt road past Chiresa and Chizarira via Binga to Hwange National Park - then on to Victoria Falls- would really recommend this 4x4 trip through Zimbabwe.

The Views and the landscape is extraordinary, on the one side of the Island you see the sundown and on the other side the moonrise. The Houses are very lovely and personally designed, the meals delicious and the service very friendly. The boatcruises offered experiences with hippos, elephants, crocs and a lot of colour- and beautyful birds. We Love the place, its owners and the people we met there!

I've been to a lot of places, 70+ countries and Musango Safari Camp ranks at the top of the heap. It's a stellar property, Steve & Wendy are awesome and the guides, Elijah and Conrad are walking encyclopedias and just great to be with, on land or water. Water safari's are the best and their sundowners, dinners, food lodges etc. are remarkable!
