We booked one night in this castle hotel during a trip through Germany with our two daughters. This is an old Burg from the 1200's so it is not the refined ornate castle of Disney stories. But the creaky floors, huge tower, winding stair cases and lovely walking paths were even better than the movies. We had a double room with three beds that looked out on the cobbled courtyard. The bathroom was modern and the room very comfortable. The view from the tower was stunning the first night and shrouded in fog the next morning. The restaurant for dinner was classic German fare - meat and potatoes with gravey that were very nicely done. Breakfast the nest morning was in a tower room and was plentiful and delicious. Below the castle is a walking path for the stations of the cross. Lovely. All of the explainations are in German, but the hotel help can give you a basic background of the burg and the area.

This castle has big rooms, outstanding views and is comfortable. The restaurant was fabulous with a wide variety of options. We had both lunch and dinner and both were exceptional meals and we all ordered different items. The walk around the grounds was breath taking with panoramic views of the surrounding area. Highly recommend.

This castle hotel offers affordable comfort and exceptionally delicious food for visitors to northern Bavaria's great cities (Wurzburg, Bad Kissingen) and the Rhon UNESCO Bioreserve. It features an award-winning restaurant and guests are also pampered with a decadent breakfast served regally in a turreted breakfast room. During my two visits to the hilltop hotel, I stayed in spacious, though somewhat faded rooms, decorated with early 20th century antiques, wooden floors, and windows opening onto fabulous views of the valley and hills. But don't expect flat screen TVs and internet connection. This is an affordable place to step back in history and to get away from it all. Remember to reserve a table for dinner early because many locals also eat there. During snowy months, ask about the best route to the hotel.

There are few castle hotels that co closely fit the archetype as does Schloss Saaleck. Position high on a hill, overlooking a wide river valley, it can be seen for miles away. The castle is 1,000 years old and the hotel section about half that age. There is a drawbridge, moat and a castle keep. The hotel has about 15 rooms of different sizes, some with fantastic views. The castle is being remodeled room by room. Those remodeled rooms have much nicer bathrooms and better windows. Colors and decorations can be a little kitschy. The breakfast is plentiful and varied and includes sekt.

During a Business Trip to Hammelburg, I stayed for 2 nights at the Schloss Saaleck Hotel, which basically is a castle on top of a hill, with an amazing overview of valley. Some highlights of the hotel : - The location is amazing, just a few minutes drive from Hammelburg. - The atmosphere of the castle really makes staying here a unique experience. - The rooms are small , with comfortable beds. Spotless clean. - The restaurant is just top quaility, bith for breakfast and dinner. I stringly recommend this Castle/Hotel for a unique experience !
