Detailed Reviews
We spent 3 nights in this small family run hotel. We stayed in the annex which has balconies
with river view. The room was comfortable and the shower facilities were excellent.
Breakfast (additional EUR 8.00) was of good quality, although the coffee was a bit too weak for my liking.
The whole place was absolutely spotless. German efficiency !!!! Although being on a busy street, our sleep was not disturbed. Can recommend this hotel for its location. Apparently the hotel restaurant has a very good reputation.

Most hotel rooms are in a separate building, spacious, comfortable, with balcony and with lift. The hotel has, however, no terrace, despite the location at the banks of the Main river. The 'Schoene Aussicht' ('Beautiful View') on the Old Town at the other side of the river, notably its castle, can be enjoyed from the room balcony and the restaurant, but not from the inside breakfast room.
Next to the hotel is a big bridge over the Main, built adjacent to the old bridge. This bridge is under demolition, which continues in September 2012, the owner told me. So beware of pneumatic hammers etc. during this time. Always book rooms at the river side - the street side is noisy (much traffic), as ask for ongoing works on the old bridge, when booking.
The hotel is directly located at the Maintalradweg (Main bicycle route), which is convenient for bikers.
Recommendation: climb the 285 stairs to the old castle, to enjoy a phantastic view, marvellous food at very moderate prices.

We booked one overnight stay at this small hotel as part of our bike tour along the river Main. The hotel, although for a small village hotel quite pricey, was nevertheless nice.. The deko is a bit retro, but all is nevertheless very clean and tidy Where the hotel really outshines however is the restaurant. The owner is also a master chef and this is reflected in the dishes he makes. The dishes aren't particularly cheap, but are well worth the investment. After several days of "schnitzel and fries", It was nice to have food which didn't come straight from a transport cafe, All in all, even without the trip to the restaurant, the hotel can be thoroughly recommended.

Our experience at this hotel forced me for the first time in years to write a review on Tripadvisor. The hotel is not inexpensive and yet of a very basic standard, clearly enjoying its monopoly in town, given its proximity to the local wedding venues (one of which was the reason for our visit).
The rooms are incredibly dated, basic and ugly - old brown carpets from the 70s/80s, burnt orange formica bathroom fittings and poor quality towels and bed linens. The concrete blocks in which they are housed are unattractive and face the main road (with massive train station opposite) on one side and the river (and ugly bridge) on the other. Bigger windows can be had in prison cells (with arguably better views also)
The breakfast was disappointing and true to form, basic. I cannot comment on the other food at the restaurant as the breakfast guaranteed a lack of desire to revisit the food. This charmless hotel is more of a 'motel' throwback, combined with outdated attitudes about customer service.
The charmless theme is most evident however when it comes to the hotel 'people'. The staff were unfriendly, unhelpful, arrogant and finally incredibly rude to us. We stayed for two nights (two nights too many) to celebrate a dear friend's marriage locally. We stayed with our two-year old son which proved to be our undoing....
At breakfast on the last day my husband was accosted by a staff member who had seemingly been waiting to pounce. He was aggressive and rude and demanded that my husband pay for a bed sheet which my two year old had drawn some biro circles on (before being stopped immediately of course). I then washed said sheet to demonstrate that the pen marks were easily removable as this was not permanent marker etc but a simply, washable blue pen ink. I apologised to reception and explained that this had been an accident which was easily remedied. The 'gentleman' at reception was incredibly unpleasant, utterly dismissive of my apology and demonstration and maintained that his laundry would not get (the same) sheet clean. I explained that as a mother of a young child, I could guarantee that dirt, blood, pen etc. etc regularly comes clean in the wash and that he could see where I had washed part of the sheet BY HAND which clearly proved this point. He implied that I was somehow being deceitful (perhaps he thought I had magically switched half of the pen-marked sheet?!!!) and insisted I would have to pay for this. I expressed my disbelief that he was taking such an approach as he would obviously soon be in possession of a perfectly laundered sheet again but handed over the nonsensical fees which he demanded as payment.
His behaviour and approach was wholly unnecessary given the circumstances, he treated my husband and I as though we were most unwelcome (which at this point we were....)
Having worked in the hospitality industry myself I am disgusted by his handling of such a simple matter and would never treat my clients in such a manner. There was no reason whatsoever for this level of aggression and poor handling of such a simple situation.
Even without 'Sheetgate' I would never recommend staying in this hotel - go further afield, pay more (or probably less) but stay in a nice hotel with friendly staff and take a cab to and from the wedding!

Have eaten here a few times now, the food is very good. The menu is very seasonal, always using fresh, mostly local produce.
They also serve some very good wines by the glass. The service is very friendly and the location overlooks the river Main.
