The inn was built in the 1960s out of old shipping boat materials. The historical building, with it`s unique design in the shape of a steam ship(maze like inside) that had car doors for windows and other bizarre objects incorporated into the architecture. Designed by a local politician who wanted it to look like one of the old steamers that crossed Lake Malawi, is an excellent example of naive architecture. Sitima Inn Hotel is located at the lakeshore and is situated 2km from Nkotakota Boma. Sitima Inn Hotel has luxury rooms with air conditioning, a restaurant and nice roof terrace bar. The Ilala ferry also docks there on its way to the magical Likoma Islands. Sitima Inn Hotel, is known as the Hidden Jewel of Nkhotakota.

I have been to Nkhotakota eleven times and everytime I have stayed at Sitima Inn. This lodge is the perfect place wether you stay there for business or for pleasure.
The rooms are comfy, spacy and airconditioned.
The staff is friendly amd helpfull.
There lodge have a laundry that take care off your clothes, so no need to bring yoo mamy suitcases.
The kitchen has had me say the following several times: "there is a party in my mouth, and everyone is invited!" The rump steak is simply amazing.
The bar has one of Malawi's best views over the lake.

So I would highly recommemd to stay at Sitima for your next stay in Nkhotakota. No matter if you are there for a conference, a meeting, a date, your honeymoon or just to kick a few greens over the weekend - Sitima Inn will provide you with all you need (and then some)

I find that Sitima Inn offers the by far best food and accommodation in Nkhotakota. Their venue and bar is stylish and with a great view of the lake, their staff is helpful and friendly and their food offered also amazing, with friendly prices. The only place in Malawi I have been offered the traditional South African "Bobotie".
Definitely worth a visit in itself!

This hotel has a lot of potential, especially the beautiful view on lake Malawi and the food is very good (especially the ZA bobotie). Nice outside bar (prepare some bug spray!)
The building could really benefit from repainting, feels a bit like its falling apart or abandoned. To be fair, we were there in low season.
The room we booked was the smallest ones with shared bathroom so that is the one we speak of. It’s tiny (maybe 9m2) but has the essentials for sleeping. We even got a extra fan as it was very warm which was very kind (there is no ac). Breakfast is delicious however make sure that if your breakfast is included in your room you have to ask which ones are included as it’s not clearly indicated. The shared bathroom is very backpackers style, very basic but functional. I would suggest more frequent cleaning, and changing the handtowel.
The hotel is all open (no gates) and rooms are verg very close to the outside, so be prepared to have some visitors in your room. We had 5 cockroaches roaming around. After the first night, the staff sprayed them and let them die in our room but there was a lot of accumulated cockroach poo under beds and on the nets.
A hotel for functional stay (visiting park, or arriving late by ferry) but not if you’re looking for cozy relaxing place or enjoying the beach because swimming is not really possible.

This is a useful place to stay in Nkhotakota, especially if you are coming in on the Lake Malawi ferry.
Our room was clean but unloved. The shower worked but was only luke warm. Breakfast was OK but dull. It was served in the nice roof top bar.
It is around 56,000 kwuatra a night, extraordinarily expensive for the location and the quality. But, if you need to spend the night in Nkhotakota, there aren’t many choices and there is nothing wrong with the Sitima Inn.

Sitima Inn is perfect for travelers arriving by ferry, as it's only steps away from the 'port'. There's a quirky upstairs bar/restaurant with a terrace overlooking the lake shore. The staff were super friendly and some of them seem to have been working for this hotel for a long time already, which is always a good sign. We had a basic twin room with shared bath/toilet, and good mosquito nets - as we were only there for a night, that was all we needed, but the nicer, pricier rooms may be worth checking out as well. The staff also helped us arrange a very friendly driver (Kareem) for our onwards travel to Lilongwe.
