Detailed Reviews
We paid $115 + tax for 2 adults and 1 child. This motel takes its COVID responsibilities seriously. The breakfast buffet is sadly reduced, with no hot items, but they put out muffins, bread, bananas (I think) and yoghurts which tided us over. Clean room, comfy beds. I wish all hotels would stop with the little plastic toiletteries and install shampoo and conditioner dispensers in the showers. The location is outside of town in the strip mall district, so the usual choice of fast food and casual dining options.

We had stayed at Microtel in 2017 and were pleased with it so booked it again in 2020. Our experience was that it was clean and comfortable and with friendly staff and this was our experience again. This time the receptionist helped us readily when we wanted to switch rooms to a quiet location, and she gave us some tips on restaurants that were open and within walking distance.
As before, the room was just fine for what we needed, and as clean and comfortable as before. The breakfast was limited due to COVID 19 but fine.
This area is on a main route, so not beautiful but a short easy drive to the river walk is well worth it.

I had stayed at this hotel a few years before. This hotel is located on the Trans Canada highway which makes it very convenient if you are traveling east or west. For myself it was located about half a kilometer from where I had to be the next day and it was close to a lot of shops and restaurants. I will be staying here again if the opportunity comes up.

If you want a place to stay where you are confined to your room at 10 pm on a Saturday night then this is the place for you. Although it was very clean, they favour specific patrons and discriminate against kids. The pool hours were until 11pm yet we were told our adult supervised children had to leave the pool at 10 pm. The desk attendant harassed our group citing another party as the reason. I don’t recommend this place to anyone with kids.

We stayed at this hotel this past Saturday, Oct. 2, and as soon as we entered our room we knew that past guest(s) had smoked in the room. We reported to the front desk and received a simple "Sorry". Since the hotel was fully booked we had no option but to leave the window open to air it out for hours. There was no price deduction or any type of formal apology issued.
The hotel was clean but it's not like other Wyndham hotels we have stayed at in the past or even during this trip.
We will not recommend this hotel for a business traveler since the desk area is extremely narrow and you block out another guest from viewing the tv. That's where they placed the desk area - in front of the tv.... so it would be o.k. if you're solo traveling.
The sheets are very worn out and of poor quality.
There is only 1 ice machine so don't look for an ice machine on your floor. The ice machine is in the very small eating area in the first floor, beside the bending machines.
If you have any gluten issues or are a healthy eater, the breakfast options are not for you. There's only bread offered. There is no hot food such as scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, sausages, bacon or any type of proten. You will have to go get breakfast outside.
For the price of this hotel, we were surprised how many said it was a great stay and there's also some proof in the lobby that the hotel has won some kind of service awards.
There were many retirees staying there so maybe that's the main demographic and thus the ratings are the way they are. Not sure.
If you are a business traveler looking to work remotely for a number of days, this is not a hotel for you. Better to look at the Hilton chain for a hotel.

Amazingly friendly and helpful staff who live to treat guests as family. Clean and comfortable rooms. All the basics in place. However....
Many hotels are finding ways to keep serving hot breakfast. They have a staff member dish out hot items. This is the reason we have been choosing Best Western and Holiday Inn for all the month of September and into October as we must be traveling for work. We chose Microtel this time because we had a free night to use up. We were very pleased with our stay, but usually look for hotels where we can have a decent breakfast experience included.
Most hotels are also keeping their pools open, just limiting people to 10. This has been, and likely will, go on for a long time, so Wyndham hotels need to start looking at how to provide the same services safely. Other businesses and restaurants are doing it. It is clear that hotels are able to as well because we have stayed at many of them. The difference seems to be having an extra staff member for breakfast and/or pool maintenance. Not providing these services is now an excuse. We have to learn to work with the circumstances, not make excuses for being less hospitable. Time to step it up. Open the pool and decent breakfast services with safety protocols in place.

We stopped over @ Microtel Inn & Suites in Soo for one night one on our way to Thunder Bay.
We had a late check in because we were travelling from Toronto and was making few stops on our drive. Thought it was good if we inform the hotel that we are reaching late and they quite fine with it.
When we arrived at the reception, It was very smooth procedure to check in and all guidance was given to go to our room and informed us in detail on breakfast facilities.
The room was great and cleaned and all of us had a good rest to take our next day's tasks.
Thank you Microtel

Definitely would go out of my way to stay here again! I have never seen such a clean hotel especially in this price point. Clearly it is well looked after inside and out. All of the staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast was quite nice and the breakfast area was very well maintained so nothing was ever low or looking sloppy. I hope other Microtel Inns are this nice as I will be trying them out as a result of my stay at this location

We enjoyed a very safe stay at the Microtel Inn in Sault St. Marie. The breakfast area could only be attended by fully vaccinated guests and the procedure for this information was handled discreetly at check-in. The staff was very professional. The room was very clean and comfortable. We stayed at this hotel for two different nights because we enjoyed the service.

Jordan was very helpful. We stayed there twice on different dates because we liked how the hotel is clean and the amenities were updated. The beds were very comfortable and the the rooms were very clean. They have breakfast too some fruits, coffee, cereal, toast, and you can make your own waffles. You’ll need your proof of vivid vaccine if you’re going to eat in the breakfast area.

Hello tim f,
Thank you for your interest in Microtel Inns & Suites as a stop for your journey out west. Unfortunately we are not a pet friendly hotel, I can recommend our sister property Super8 as an alternative. They are located on great Northern Rd HWY 17) a short distance from our property. Thanks again for your interes!
