The Falls were as impressive as we always imagined. The icing on the cake was the Boatride to the base of Canadian Falls. Got thourably wet even with the supplied Ponchos but that experience added to not detracted from the ride. Would not be as good without that experience even though the rapids leading up to and over the Falls were a sight to behold. Heaps of accommodation at the Falls and also a side trip to Niagara on the Lake was also a must do. Also some Wine tasting at the numerous Vinyards in the area.

At no time I felt engulfed by the hygge aura, noticed the eco-friendliness, and realized that it is kept cleaner than Calgary. Breakfast added zest invariably to my day (my favorite part of the day!). Even though coronavirus has killed much of the traveling vibe, you can still soak up a lively atmosphere inside the hostel and outside in the wilderness.

It's situated super close to the bus & train station. Setting out to behold the Falls only takes a quick stroll of about 20 minutes. The Butterfly Conservatory and Botanical garden are walkable even under the pouring snow. There are also hip bars and cafés within walking distance, and CanadaPost still delivers super fast there.

The manager was very welcoming and sympathetic, and her assistant was the most pleasant person I met in Canada. Both always displayed savoir-faire. In almost 14 months of living in Canada is the only place in which I could felt at home and pampered with philoxenia. I barely saw the sun during my stay, yet I always felt a warmth within its walls.

Salome is one of the most incredible hosts and human beings I have met – she made us feel comfortable, safe, taken care of, and went above and beyond to make this trip memorable. She spent hours teaching me how to ride a bike and showing us around – she was patient, knowledgeable, kind, and immensely thoughtful – hands down one of the most excellent teachers. She took care of us like we were family and made so many concessions for us. The hostel is close to transit, a short walk/bike ride to the falls and scenic farms/vineyards by the river. The hostel is clean, has all the amenities you will need, and has sustainable practices in place (something you don't see a lot) which really impressed me. I would recommend this place to anyone taking a trip to Niagara – you don't want to sleep on this!

I had a great stay at this hostel. The two ladies who were working there were very friendly and welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. I was the only one in the hostel so they graciously upgraded my room which was nice. The hostel was clean and cozy and I felt really comfortable and safe. They are taking good measures to stay clean with covid. It’s also close to the bus station and is a walkable distance to the Falls. I would recommend it to anyone staying in the area. I hope to be back one day when I can travel to the US side of the falls!

We stayed 2 nights at this amazing hostel and I would recommend this place to all backpackers. The place is beautiful, clean and sustainable. The location is next to transit and a little walk to the falls.
The owner Salome is very very kind and helpful. We rented bikes from them and she taught my friend to ride it, spending hours with us! She didn't even charge us for extra hours on the bike. I will definitely be going back in autumn to see her :)

Seems to me their having a bit of a roach problem. I was in 2 separate rooms and saw roaches in both. Killed an earwig in the bathroom and had a nice big spider living in my room. No where is bug free but I have not seen that many roaches in one place before especially in Canada. I hold Canadian hostels to a higher standard. I did not eat breakfast cause I was worried they dont clean well enough. Other than the bugs . The bed was decent. . Wifi worked well. Location was very close to everything if driving like a 3-4 minute drive. Location is very close to bus and rail if you need. You cant beat the price. I couldn't find any hotels for under $100 with parking i got a private here for $55 that included parking, wifi, and breakfast. Hostel is also in an abandon part of town. Literally boarded up buildings all around. really creepy vibe. but no sketchy people to be seen so guess thats good. My window happend to have a broken latch so I was feeling a little uneasy all night

Response from Salomé T, Propriétaire at HI- Niagara Falls
Responded 21 Apr 2015
Dear Ruby, I am really sorry that your stay with us was not meeting all your expectations. As new ownership since May 2014 we take great pride in our recent renovations and the cleanliness of our property which is one of the HI hostels quality standards. As soon as you reported this situation to our staff on April 12, we have notified our environmental pest control company who identified these insects as “Box Elder Bogs” (not roaches). We have identified this problem in 5 of our 20 rooms and we are dealing actively to solve this situation in an effective and environmental friendly way. To make sure that situation does not happen next spring, we will treat our trees appropriately in the fall as recommended by specialists. Thank you again for taking the time to provide us with your precious feedback. Sincerely, Salomé

We stayed here in October 2009. Yes, it's taken me a while but I finally remembered to review.

This is not a family place, even though they have a "family room." The family room is a standard bunk set, and a another with double under and single over. There is less than 1 metre at the end of the beds and between as well. Getting 5 people and their luggage in the room was really tough! The beds were foam on those wire and spring bases, incredibly uncomfortable and very saggy.

The family room is right over the front terrace that they show in the pictures, this is where everyone congregates on nice nights to drink, sing and play guitars. About the worst place for a family room as the noise kept us awake until 2am.

We got up and down to the kitchen by 9am to have the free breakfast, most of the food was gone, the kitchen lights wouldn't work and there were no staff around to help.

The recreation room downstairs was well stocked with things to do, but really dirty.

They tried to charge us double what was quoted by email, I had to argue long and hard to get the correct price.

To top it off, this was weekday out of season, and we could have got a room at many of the motels in town for the same or less than we paid. We are not room snobs and have had many pleasant hostelling experiences with our children. This one was definitely the worst ever!

I booked a double female dorm. The hostel closes to VIA station though. When I arrived, I walked less than 5 mins to the hostel and I dont have to wake up early in the morning to catch the train back to Toronto Airport. However, I think the hostel is pretty far from the attraction areas which takes 20 or up to 30 mins walking along the River road to the Falls and other attractions. If you like walking, then it's good to stay here because it is far from crowded however if at night you would not want to walk back to hostel. If you think about the bus, the bus runs in every 45 mins so you better well manage on getting on and off.
Besides the location, I like the staffs here. They are very informative and helpful!
They gave me all information I needed to know and even let me had breakfast on the first day I arrived eventhough I didnt check in yet. They are very nice and welcome people from any other countries like me. For the double female dorm, I got lucky as I got a room for myself coz noone booked so i liked it though ;). Bathroom is ok and clean. They have warm/cold water temperature but the hair dryer seems not working. Anyway, I enjoyed my stay here and liked the staffs very much!

My travel buddy and I were surprised that a hostel could look so magnificent. We expected a low-cost place just to sleep and grab a bite to eat in the morning before setting out on our tourist activities. However, the hostel was much more than we anticipated.

Both his room and mine were immaculate. The rooms on the ground and second floors were just as clean and decorated with historical items about the Niagara region. I only discovered the cozy basement reading/game rooms when we were about to leave the property.

I need coffee in the morning, and the hostel accommodated my caffeine fix well, providing a variety of kitchen equipment to prepare other breakfast items.

Special kudos to Jakob, a hostel volunteer from Germany, and Ms. Salome Torres, the hostel manager, for being such friendly staff!
