We checked in to the property on December 8th. Upon arriving we were informed that the hot tub, steam room and pool were unavailable. The front desk informed us that this was stated on the website. After checking the website, it said that these amenities were only going to be closed until December 4th. I never received any kind of communication that these were going to be unavailable during our stay. I contacted them regarding this, and they offered free parking (there was no parking fee stated on my reservation) and a room upgrade. We actually stayed in the exact same room on a previous trip and booked the exact same room type that we originally had. We would have stayed elsewhere had we known this. Management was willing to offer a 20% discount on a future stay but no partial refunds for the inconvenience. I would recommend staying elsewhere or calling to confirm everything is up and running (which you shouldnt need to do) before checking in.

Banff is a touristy resort town so I think it’s best to level set price - to- benefits expectations accordingly. We stayed in one of the un-refurbished alpine- style loft king room (bedroom is upstairs and sitting room/bath is downstairs). Pros: friendly:helpful front desk and housekeeping; free covered parking; clean comfortable bed and pillows; shower had great water pressure; faucets had immediate hot water, in room coffee maker and hot water kettle; small refrigerator but gets cold, and nights are quiet (kept our windows open all night- yes you can occasionally hear the trains but we are from a big city with lots of traffic noise). We also found a lot of tours picked up from the Caribou hotel next door which was very convenient. Cons: carpets were stained, bathroom dated, air con noisy and most of hallway lights were out so it was hard to find our room at night. And yes you have to walk down the spiral stairs to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Overall, we thought the pros far outweighed the cons. Would recommend.

it was two friends and for one night. We booked a renovated room and that was AMAZING. Large closet, drawers, large bathroom and two queen beds. It was quiet and the prefect place for us after a week in the back country. A quick walk to food and shops.

We were in Banff for a family wedding. We needed to stay two nights. When we requested an early check-in because we had a pre-wedding event, the hotel was able to accommodate us. We were grateful! The room was comfortable with good quality linens and bedding. We had the breakfast in the hotel lounge one morning; it was adequate. (There is a charge for it.) The hotel is in walking distance of the shops in downtown Banff; it is on the main street of the town. The staff was able to answer our questions and gave good recommendations. Staying in Banff in high season is expensive. The Charltons was perfect for our stay.

If you do book to stay here, make sure you get a refurbished room. The suite we got was VERY tired and in a generally poor state. We checked in to the loft suit then checked out 2 hours later to find better accommodation elsewhere. They did offer a refurbished room, which was very nice but not a suite as booked.

Average room for a so called King Deluxe. It and hotel as a whole is a little tired, dark in a log cabin style, and in need of refurbishment. There is plenty of parking below the rooms. The pool was ok, but a bit cool, and the steam room excellent once it warmed up. Pity the jacuzzi was out of action. They do breakfast at $16 per person. There is no evening restaurant so you they refer you to the Evergreen one block down the road. The hotel is walkable to the centre of town at just over 0.5km. At $450 a night we thought it was expensive for what it is. However this is probably Banff excessive general pricing.

We spent two nights at Chartons and were satisfied. It was slightly less expensive than most other hotels in a very overpriced area. The room was clean and comfortable, the bed and bathroom facilities were fine. The hot tub was great at 104 degrees. Hotel is a few blocks out of town, in a quiet area. Good restaurants are close, and the Roam bus stops a block away. Our only complaint was the lack of housekeeping, since we only stayed 2 nights.

Rooms are a bit dated but otherwise good size and good size bathroom, the room however was pretty dirty, the glasses in the room had “stuff” stuck to them, not sure what but it was definitely not something you would drink from, lots of dust build up and the vent fan in the bathroom was also dirty with dust clumps all in the vents. There was a window we could open to get fresh air in however it did not have a screen so flies would come in.

Our room was strange but livable. Walked into a room with two single beds. The next room was a kitchen area with the bathroom at the other side - we could make food while watching each other brush teeth if we wanted to. The next room had a double bed. The decor and furniture was dated, and the room was fairly dusty and in need of a good clean (I found items that the previous guests had lost). Despite the dust and quirks the room was livable and served a purpose. The walls aren't that thick and I could hear what our neighbours were talking about and what they were watching on TV - but thankfully we only used the room to sleep in rather than spend too much time it. By contrast to the room, the reception of the hotel is modern and there was an immaculate pool, hot tub and sauna only a door away. Staff were friendly and polite. Probably wouldn't stay here again, but it served a purpose and was comfortable.

Would probably stay here again; the new rooms do have a nice Mountain View and are very clean and modern. So many quirks though, of this place! Nothing really an issue (everything important, like soft bed, cleanliness, and courteous staff, was present), mostly just amusing: 1. No confirmation email sent; I got a confirmation number from the website, though. When I called to confirm it actually went through, it had. They gave me a second confirmation number over the phone (?) 2. Luggage cart is so poor that it’s substantially harder than taking several trips to carry the luggage; the wheels barely work 3. The elevator and main lobby are closed 11p to 7am for some reason, and you take stairs. It’s not clear what the status is on the doors involved in this process; some seem almost accidentally propped open. 4. Room layout and adornment was bizarro. Eg shooting for luxury appearance, but an odd metal side table that was basically a drum; it was in the way of the mini fridge; the mini fridge was in a cabinet that seemed to have room for a microwave also, but didn’t actually have one; the bathroom door didn’t lock; the bathroom door slid and was extremely difficult to close without making a huge banging noise; there was both a bathtub * and* a separate shower, which seemed like a waste of space. The TV stand had what looked like a sheet of granite glued to the countertop. 5. Only one washcloth was in the room, took several requests to finagle another from the front desk 6. No pen and paper to write notes 7. The fridge door was half falling off It was, however, overall nice with a Mountain View, and clean, it’s worth repeating, though.
