The place itself was nice, nice setting, neat, etc. but we were told that it's a "healthy" farm so there is NOTHING to drink, "you can drink the tap water", except the taps weren't running either.

The very least you expect after a long day is to be able to get something to drink, even if it's just cold water. Or warn your visitors to bring their own at least.

I would not recommend this place to anyone, there must be better options out there.

Response from Henry Minnaar, Owner at Vlakbult Guest Farm
Responded 23 May 2024
The guesthouse is on a farm and we have to pump water to have water. The water is 100% drinkable and natural. All I can say is that the water may not have been pumped early enough and we apologise for that. Other than that our guesthouse is amazing and the views are amazing and we will always try our best to have the guest have a great experience.

I arrived quite late to check in. Even so, I was welcomed by Henry Minnaar en shown to my room in the original homestead on the farm. The sandstone house is steeped in history and I was captivated by the photographs and framed artifacts which tells the story of the Taylors and Vlakbult. It is a working farm and essential oils are processed on the farm itself. The old sheep stable was converted into a visitors center, which makes for a fascinating visit. Riana was also kind enough to give advice and directions on the surrounding attractions. I felt right at home.

in one word WOW, one of the best places i have stayed at as yet. the rooms are luxurious and tidy. linen is spotless and house is spacious. We were met by Henry and Stacey and they made us feel so welcome, friendliest couple ever!! On the farm there is a essential oil factory which they showed us, as well as a factory shop, the knowledge gained there is priceless. the weekend was so relaxing that i did not want to leave. the tranquility is something out of a fairytale. We had a stroll on the farm up to the "koppie" and the view is just breath taking. I would highly recommend this guesthouse to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend away from it all. They will definitely see us again.

Please do yourself a favour and remove the above mentioned guesthouse from your site. They are bringing you standard down.

Please see listed below the issues we had;

- The owner told my aunt and uncle that we were desperate for the room, even though we booked and paid for the accommodation 2 months in advance and in full. This was lie no.1.

- Lie no. 2, The Facebook page and website show the look of a 4 star guesthouse with beautiful images. This unfortunately is not the case at all, the accommodation is not even a 1 star. This is false advertising!

- Used soaps in the bathroom

-Broken window frames, Windows that look like they haven't been cleaned in months

-No extraction fan in bathroom

-Stained and dirty carpet

-rats in the roof!!!

-noisy machines that keep you up night

-dogs bark the whole night

-a black cat that kills rats and then brings them into the room.

- old towels

-shower pressure is poor and you struggle to have a proper shower

-microwave looks like it's about 30yrs old

-pillows are old and worn out

-cracked window frame in shower that was also dirty and had a old used soap and sponge

- previous guests belongings in the cupboard

-The hardest and worst matteress I have ever slept on

- The room is so far away from everything and the entrance is so run down and is in desperate need of maintenance.

- room needs to be repainted and redecorated.

-curtains are stained and coming off the racks.

The main house is a bit better but also needs a lot of work and refurbishment.

I would recommend VlakBult Guestfarm invests time and money and fixes all of the above mentioned problems. IT IS NOT FIT FOR CUSTOMERS AT ALL!!

Response from Henry Minnaar, Owner at Vlakbult Guest Farm
Responded 23 May 2024
Thank you for your response. Although completely unnecessary to blacklist our guesthouse on a public platform, knowing that the flat you stayed in wasn't part of the guesthouse back then, after you made it clear in person that you were unhappy with the flat in our garden. (That was enough negative criticism) I had never met a guest so rude and unkind in my life. Positive criticism pushes an establishment forward, but using words like "it is not fit for customers at all! (in caps) is so unkind for the future of the business. In the mean time the entire guesthouse has been renovated as well as the room/flat you stayed in. Coming back to what you said in the review: Using the words "lies and betrayal" as your heading is an un-called for response for a guesthouse review as we never lied or betrayed anyone. I only used the garden flat as a last resort when my guesthouse and all other guesthouses in the area are fully booked. I thought I was helping you out. If I had known this would be your response I would have never even offered the flat in our garden. The images on our website of the guesthouse and website were not graded so to say it is advertised as a 4 star place is a lie from your side. We did not advertise falsely. The farm is situated in such a beautiful area and has breathtaking views. As I said it has been beautifully renovated and upgraded and hope this review does not stop anybody from staying by us in the future.
