Hondaafushi is located in the Northern Haa Dhaalu Atoll. The island measures about 500m at its widest point and has an approximately 2km long sandy beach. The lagoon in front of the beach is perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Water sports enthusiasts will feel like a fish in water at Hondaafushi. Within a walking distance, the jetty on the west side of the island allows an easy entry to the house reef. A shuttle service of a special kind will be our boat shuttle to the approximately 25 different dive spots besides the house reef. This service is available for a small service fee. Night dives and early morning dives at the house reef are daily possible.

Had to do a reality double take. Was a bucket list vacation spot and had promised myself that would take advantage of exotic trips once the pandemic window opened. We generally criuse to see the world and was not ready for that yet.
Trip seemed daunting for a type A female traveler with her teenage son. Was surprised that the resort team took care of everything once we landed in Male' intn'l airport. Rep met us at baggage claim. Walked us to a fabulous Maldivian lounge for breakfast and wifi access before heading on small quick seaplane (40 min) and finally a speedboat (10-15 min).

The view was amazing and exceeded my expectations. They took safety and distancing seriously. Only time remembered the pandemic was when the resort arranged testing for our return USA flight 48 hrs prior.
Took advantage of RCI HB meal plan.
Tasty food menu changed daily. Of course standard staple items existed. Had something for all.
I might be a bit naive but you had to make choices with the kebabs, salads to the deserts. Chef learned your taste and tried to cater accordingly while encouraging new menu options. Was a nice adventure, never had dragon or passion fruit before.
The pictorial views did not appropriately represent the scenery. Was nice to wake up to the sunset on the beach.
Wifi readily available on the entire island

Lessons learned for me - email. I tend to want a voice confirmation via WhatsApp. Rajith from the resort reached out despite the time difference
Be prepared for partially covered rest room (shower outside).
Lights off at night made it easier to bear.
Was afraid at 1st then found myself using the shower 3 times per day
Resort made sure you went through security when traveling back home. Was a bit disappointing not being able to island hop due to the pandemic restrictions. Would have liked more excursions for those of us not interested in Jet skis, night fishing, snorkeling or scuba diving. We do exist. Had a fabulous/ relaxing time and would highly recommend it. Mr Chibbe was fantastic in ensuing a remarkable departure.

Three weeks at this most scenic of Maldivian islands. The transfer from and to Male was very well organised. We fully appreciated the use of the airport lounge at Male.
We have been to the Maldives on six previous occasions, but this was the most beautiful island of them all .Clear, azure blue seas and 'miles' of white powder beaches. An island about a mile long and a quarter of a mile wide, with only 50 bungalows (of which, at any time, less than two thirds were occupied), you felt like Robinson Crusoe. If you want quiet and relaxing, then this is the place. It did liven up with a disco once a week and Heyment (manager) always took part......mmmmm, but that dancing!!
All staff, from management to gardeners, were extremely friendly. Always greeted you with a smile. Special thanks go to Rashid (our room 'boy'), Dhieran (our waiter) and Sobuz and Baten at the Thila Bar. All gave great, friendly service.
Just a few points on the downside (hence the 4 stars):-
1. Jet skis should be limited to the south side of the main beach, away from the bungalows. When swimming, it is extremely worrying to have untrained 'idiots' whizzing up and down within just a few meters. This is an accident waiting to happen.
2.Food could have been better. Quality was inconsistent and it was often barely warm. Having said that, there was good variety and we never went hungry.
3. The price of diving was extortionate and far above what I have paid on other islands. To do 10 boat dives, with own equipment, cost $110 per dive. Add another $45 if you were renting the equipment (i.e. $155 per dive). I go to the Maldives to dive; but not at those prices.
Our thanks to everyone for making our holiday so enjoyable. We had a great time and would love to return but, because of 3. above, we doubt that we will.

Having been to other islands this is a big disappointment.
One restaurant at one end of the island one bar at other end of the island
Everywhere you are sitting on wooden chairs very uncomfortable
Rooms only cleaned once a day unlike all the other islands we have been to
We had to put everything in the bin so that they cleaned all the drops that was around the sinks which happens every day
Yes it hot the beach is lovely
But for a all inclusive when you can only get food at meal time and never been any where that doesn't start breakfast till 8.am!! No snacks or ice cream?
There are so many islands this one needs to step it's game up
We will be glad to be going home
And have booked a much better island for a next trip

This is the first time I was in Maldives. I was happy to visit for fourteen days. Then the nightmare started. Our Rooms were not cleaned daily and only once in 8 days which is unhygienic, the bathroom floor was stinkingly dirty as sewage water flowed on the opposite side of the drainage. Instead of cleaning, they
provided broom !!! But for Europeans, rooms were cleaned daily.

Main Restaurant food buffett was empty at 20:30 hrs, whereas the closing of restaurant was at 21:30. On the buffett, they put small spoons and not ladles - for letting people eat smaller quantities. We were put in a separate area with the Asians and all the good area was
reserved for Europeans.

We tried to speak to the General Manager Sajid who did not meet us on
several occasions and pushing in front staff members to deal with
this. We felt very sorry for the slaved staff. We spoke to some
restaurant staff, they told us that GM is incompetent and avoids
guest. They donot have enough staff and staff working continuously
without one day holiday. I am a trainer myself and if staff are not
taken care, customers will suffer. Yes, we suffered a lot. The only good person was Sarah who worked as waiter and was friendly to us. If you are an Asian, I highly recommend to not visit this property, as they discriminate openly about it.

Dear Salim, Thank you for your message. I appreciate you taking out the time to review Hondaafushi on trip advisor. For the past days we have investigated each aspect of your day trip in detail and below are the findings in bracket : Our Rooms were not cleaned daily and only once in 8 days which is unhygienic, the bathroom floor was stinkingly dirty as sewage water flowed on the opposite side of the drainage. Instead of cleaning, they provided broom !!! But for Europeans, rooms were cleaned daily. (We provide daily room cleaning for all our guests irrespective of the nationality they belong to. As per our log records, there was no mention of any complaints during your stay with us) Main Restaurant food buffett was empty at 20:30 hrs, whereas the closing of restaurant was at 21:30. On the buffett, they put small spoons and not ladles - for letting people eat smaller quantities. We were put in a separate area with the Asians and all the good area was reserved for Europeans. (Please note that restaurant tables are allocated based on guest arrival, subject to availability of tables in the three sections we have. The Main Restaurant is facing beautiful ocean and can be seen from all areas of the restaurant) We tried to speak to the General Manager Sajid who did not meet us on several occasions and pushing in front staff members to deal with this. (As per our records, an appointment with you and General Manager was fixed at 16:00hrs at reception area and only the General Manager was present for the meeting. However, you actually had met him several times in the Thila Bar in and there were no complains about anything.) We felt very sorry for the slaved staff. We spoke to some restaurant staff, they told us that GM is incompetent and avoids guest. They do not have enough staff and staff working continuously without one day holiday. I am a trainer myself and if staff are not taken care, customers will suffer. Yes, we suffered a lot. The only good person was Sarah who worked as waiter and was friendly to us. If you are an Asian, I highly recommend to not visit this property, as they discriminate openly about it. (We treat all our staff with care and follow employment regulations set by the government. Nevertheless, we always value our customers’ feedback.) We surely hope you will return once more to experience our beautiful resort. Thank you, Kind regards, Hondaafushi Team

Visited this resort in Dec 2021.
It's a good 50 min plane ride from Male . The resort arranges for accommodation in airport lounge with complimentary food and nonalcoholic beverages, till it is time for your connecting flight to Hanimadhoo. U are greeted by resort staff after you come out of int Airport. They manage the connecting flights, lounge access etc. It is completely hassle free.
Be mindfull about the timing of connecting flight ( one can check on maldivian aero) . We had to essentially waste the day and reaches the resort late evening bcoz of flight schedule. From Hanimadhoo airport its 10 min boat ride.
The resort has 60 plus beach facing bunglows . No water villas. Nice sit outside with sea views and good outdoor bathrooms.
A/c cooling, water pressure was no problem at all. Being all inclusive is a good choice or else one has to really pay a huge price.
Infinity Pool and bar are great and one can sit hear all day.
Resort Island is really big to stroll around . It has a very nice and long beach . Snorkelling is not for novices.
Only downside were
1) the food was completely European fare. Inspite of requesting to add a single Indian curry to main course the chief chef( Sri Lankan guy) didn't oblige on both occasion. He would just say yes and not do any thing about it. We were literally starved.
2) being the only Indian guests we did feel less welcomed in many quarters of the resort.( this is completely subjective opinion).
3) Distance of the resort from Male , make u waste one day for arriving too and fro.

My wife and I spent 14 nights at Hondaafushi, and had a fantastic time.
We had read a few negative reviews before we arrived , but we went with open minds and were pleasantly surprised on our arrival.
On arrival at the resort we were welcomed by super attentive staff and given a much needed welcome drink, whilst our luggage was taken care of.
After a delicious lunch we were driven to our room which surpassed our expectations. It was spacious and spotlessly clean. Our view of the Indian Ocean from the bed was amazing. The house keeper ( Masoun ) looked after us with clean linen and towels every day, he even set up sun loungers and umbrella every morning.
The restaurant was also very good with a varied menu and we always found something delicious to eat. The restaurant staff were also very good, Chefs were always on hand to answer questions and talk about the dishes available. Even going out of there way to prepare special curries on a couple of nights.
The waiters ( Hasim and Moham ) were simply the best, they knew our drinks order from day one and we’re always on happy to talk and ask if we needed anything.
The Thila Bar is great for sunset views, and the bar staff all seem to care about the customers, again nothing to much trouble for them. They are all happy to take your sunset photos, and make you feel welcome.
Having been to the Maldives several times we found the Hondaafushi to be the most natural island, without sandbags, sea walls or water villas spoiling our sunrise or sunset view.
Yes this is a quiet island but What makes this resort great are the staff, who go out of there way to make you feel welcome. We made new friends from all over the globe and made some fantastic memories!!

My expectations were set extremely low after reading some of the reviews from the coffee being disgusting, ants everywhere and the top one of a photo of the construction plus being held hostage. I have visited the Maldives previously once staying at a top resort and the other at the Four Seasons. The Four Seasons was absolutely amazing with everything being perfect and as expected. The only downside is the cost of $24,000 for the week. Does luxury need to be that painful.... I think not. When I was presented a week in the Maldives at Hondaafushi for an all in price of $7500, I was definitely suspect but willing to give it a try, really how bad could it be. The travel was tough 24hrs door to door, completely exhausted we collapsed on the bed took a breath then ran into the beautiful water. Ahhhh. So we collected ourselves and went to dinner. Everything was available vegetarian, meat, fish and pasta. Excellent, not Michelin stars but again my expectations were low as I'm in the Maldives for under $10k. The next day I noticed a room better situated on the beach and asked if I could move, mgmt. Obliged and my room was 50 feet from the water. Pure paradise. Everyday just got better and better. To the coffee comment, yes they use instant coffee but if you ask they have fresh ground delicious coffee. To the photo of the construction, seriously they are working on four newly constructed villas, sorry they didn't build them in one day. To the ant comment Yes, the showers are outside in the nature and they choose rightfully so not to use petisides, so yes nature is nature, why not mention the birds that fly above your head, or maybe they should shoot them to please you. I'm glad I didn't listen to the haters. Everyone was perfect here and I tried to tip everyone. The massage was exceptional as she is from Thailand and knows the perfect amounts of pressure on my sun baked skin. The food offers something to everyone's delight. The Ocean was super clean, the beaches pristine. The villa was roomy with excellent air conditioning and the bed was comfortable, I slept 9 hours which is 4 more than my usual so enough stated. In closing, if you don't want to spend a fortune and come to the Maldives, this is your place. Hopefully, the coffee guy, the ant lady and the couple that were held hostage will go spend $24k somewhere else as I prefer not to be on the same island as them. Thank you Hondaafushi for surprising me and my wife with a spectacular fantastic week. We are brown beauties returning home with lots of spare money from not being taken by an overpriced holiday.

This was our 5th time of going to the Maldives and so I am comparing to previous Islands.
Advertised as having house reef which you would expect to be live ,house reef dead, only live section was under the Jetty. We always look for house reef due to our love of snorkelling. Reception staff insisted that the reef was along side the arrival Jetty. No live reef that we could find. was informed of a snorkelling excursion but that wasn't what we had booked the island for. This was the biggest disappointment of the holiday.
Restaurant and bar at opposite ends of island, no bar or eating areas in between and a long walk in the hot sun . Do have a golf buggy shuttle that you request to take you from one place to another but may wait a long while for it.
Dive centre is run down and looks like it hasn't been looked after for years. Only 2 people on site and they were very mater of fact about not having a team running the centre. I wouldn't have booked nothing there as it looked very unprofessional and out dated.
Restaurant was very well presented and the staff were very attentive and within days would remember what drinks you liked with which meal, they deserve 100% praise and respect. The fruit station was manned by a lovely lady who always had a smile and took time to have a chat. Food was fine if a little repetitive in as much as the salads were only different with small adjustments to what was added . There was always plenty of choice of other foods but most of the time the food was only tepid and not hot for lunch and dinner. First island I have stayed at that didn't offer ice cream for dessert )( I love ice cream so probably being too negative)and desserts were the most repetitive of all the food offered lots of mousse and cake, Don't go for the little eclairs they are like bullets.
Our room was lovely, bright and spacious. We were All inclusive so had a soft drink mini bar that was replenished every day along side tea and coffee . Room was kept clean by the young boy daily. Clean towels and toiletries provided when needed.
No entertainment at all in the evening to while away the hours. Would have been nice to have something to look forward to a couple of times a week. The disco dosent really hit the spot for older visitors. Take something to keep you entertained, books, Ipad (We found that the wi fi was very good in the room as well as in other areas), cards
The island was fogged every couple of nights for mossies after some rain fall it was done nightly but despite this and using repellent we were quite badly bitten.
This island could offer so much if the owners put some effort and time into reading the reviews and acting upon them. Shame because this island is big enough to offer more. Sadly I would not return to this island , I know I can get more elsewhere for the same price we paid for this Island stay. If I have learned one thing from this particular island is always go for a seaplane transfer if possible, avoid the internal domestic flight, absolute logistical nightmare.

Hondaafushi was a wonderful and magical experience for me. I visited it with one of my friends and came back just yesterday after a week long stay and found all the services to be awesome despite COVID-19 restrictions. Their hospitality started right from our arrival day when we got delayed due to our flight reaching Male, and they booked the airport lounge for us and arranged a guided tour of the city. We were taken care of right after stepping out of our plane till we boarded for the seaplane taking us to the resort. At the resort also, the Rooms Division Manager, Hemant received us around midnight with delicious special food arrangement. He was very professional, accommodating and helpful throughout our stay at the resort and tried his best to take care of all of our needs till we departed. During next one week we met many wonderful people working there some of whom were Maasoom who provided cleaning services, Hasan and Sami in the dinning area and Shaif and Mysel at the water sports center. Both me and my friend were beginners in swimming but keen to enjoy water sports. Shaif made sure we learned swimming before going for them. His kindness, assistance and teaching skills gave us the chance to enjoy snorkeling fully. It was my first experience at a resort but will not be the last because of all these wonderful people :).

We spent on this Paradise 11 nights and absolutely recommnend it. From the spacious and clean luxury bungalow, comfortable mattresses, open air bathroom with the shower, total privat space, direct entry and view on amazing turquoise ocean through delicious food ( especially seafood and beef on the grill from the masterchef), drinks and coctails, desserts and fresh fruits to the smiling and helpful staff...
Snorkling is the better on the other side island on the jetty/pier with coral reef ( there were seen shark, stingrays and many other coloured fishes ). Around the island, seen from the beach, floats many baby sharks. We have undertaken the trip to the turtle snorkling to the reef on the nearby island - we saw 5 turtles float close to us and too many fishes.
Back to the resort - I´ve never seen so much privat space around, there are about 50 bungalows but mostly of the day you don¨t meet anybody around.
Thanks so much to the whole staff for this amazing stay and hope we´ll return again.

We never saw ants in the showers at all. We were all inclusive, but would have had to pay for bike hire. The food was OK, but nothing special compared to other islands. I was ill twice with stomach problems. I think from the salads. Renting a bike, where are you going to go? There is nothing on the island other than the restaurant area, the pool area and the villas.
