We pre-booked a nice room with its own separate entrance and its own terrace which we could have dinner on because covid is going up dramatically in both cape town and joburg - so this being a stopover place we wanted to play safe . When we arrived the lady manager told my wife that the rate we had agreed with booking.com was actually the rate for their cheapest room - so she showed her that one and asked for an extra R350 if we wanted the room we had booked via booking.com. She would not listen to my wife showing her the printout of our booking and kept repeating what her rack rates were and how we needed to sort it out with booking.com if we didn't want to pay her extra surcharge . She let her into the room we had booked because my wife is persistent but but left herin no doubt that there would be a row to look forward to at checkout time the next morning. i arrived with the luggage eventually and found that we had the thing you don't need after a seven hour drive from cape town - a frosty atmosphere and a big overcharge brewing ...... The owner lady also was the only one we saw inside the place not wearing a mask .Her staff were wearing masks in the public areas,as were the guests we saw, but she obviously felt that she would not be the super-spreader between cape town travellers and joburg travellers. That attitude took my poor rating down to terrible. Interestingly the room was clean , the food was very good , the staff who served our dinner were lovely . Breakfast on our terrace was also good , apart from dodgy bacon. This could be a good place to stopover if the manager would only show some respect for covid and guests by wearing a mask and she would get to grips with her online pricing and room types on booking engines. It is fine if you make a mistake , but honour the deal that you made. When it came to checkout we did have the expected argument . She tried to tell me that the price i paid was exactly the rate for her cheapest room and i had to pay the extra. I explained how booking.com work, how there were several room types, how i also get a loyalty discount with them, i showed her the room spec which was the room we got and on and on . In the end i had to play the 'legal contract' card and she then said 'ok , i will give you the price agreed - we are all good now aren't we ? '. i had to explain that a good experience does not include a horror show at checkin and checkout - not relaxing , not good service....... too much detail i am sure - there are so many stopover places around and so many places with good food - best to avoid this one until the manager learns how to list on third party sites and learns to keep covid risks at a sensible level . The staff and guests deserve better .

Had a wonderful stay with great Karoo hospitality. Chalet was stunning with all and more that you need. Will be back again just a pity it was a stop over stay. It i worth the 14km off the N1 as that makes it so peaceful and tranquil.

We ended up staying here for a full week instead of the two nights we originally planned. The kids enjoyed themselves with all the animals, we loved that the staff was pro-active in suggesting activities. Great home-cooked food, lovely scenery!

We got there a little later than expected. We ordered supper and was warmly received by all the staff. Not one of them looked annoyed as a result of us being late. This was very nice for us. The meals of lamb chops were very good - could have done with more fries! The room was well heated in anticipation of our arrival, the bed was brilliant and the only criticism is that the pillows was not up to standard. Yet this will not detract from a five star review
