At Bramasole, you can do as much or as little as you like. If you feel like unwinding, you can curl up next to a crackling fireplace and lose yourself in a novel. Explore the magnificent forest or try out the many hikes in the area. If you feel like tussling with 'the big one', trout fishing is also an option. Situated at the very edge of a lake, Bramasole cuts an imposing figure complete with an indigenous forest halo. The precarious approach along the narrow dam wall adds to the drama of the approach as the full extent of the building reveals itself. The interior has a surprise of its own, as this fairly simple shed exterior makes way for a luxurious interior with an enormous double volume space bathed in natural sunlight from the skylights. No attempt was made to hide the trusses which form part of this very unusual interior space which is dominated by a central fireplace. The rooms are themed from regions around the world from the luxurious Paris apartment to the cosy "Delft" room spinning around the world to Venice, Morocco, Egypt, Africa and the east - Jade. The Paris apartment is a luxurious room with views into the forest and over the lake with an open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area and a braai patio. The views into the forest are awesome with trees overhead lapping at the eaves. We tried to be extremely subtle with the décor, avoiding corny memorabilia. Bramasole has used colour and texture to blend an eclectic mix of antique and modern furniture and décor in the house, as well as the guesthouse. Reclaimed parquet flooring (from the old Schul in Polokwane) has been re-used as wall cladding and counter surfaces giving a warm textured look to most of the rooms.

Bramasole Guest House **** in the Magoebaskloof Mountains is an incredibly beautiful and supremely comfortable stop to or from the Kruger Park. Start your Kruger holiday with a touch of luxury or wash off the Kruger dust on your way home.
Vuyi, the manager, Katy the chef and all the other staff are so friendly, helpful and willing to please. Right from the first greeting, by a gentle dappled dachshund to the final farewell, we loved our stay.
Everything is beautiful. Each room thoughtfully designed to fit it’s theme. And not only beautiful but every possible need is addressed.
Breakfast was delicious and although dinner is not usually served, Katy whipped up a yummy meal for us so that we did not have to brave the pea-soup-mist to go out again. Of course the mist only added to the charm of a beautiful setting.
We can’t wait to come back.

From the moment you step into beautiful Bramasole, you are welcomed by the friendliest staff who are willing to go above and beyond every request without any hesitation. Each room with a unique theme and feel, allowing a very comfortable escape.
We were a big group and from breakfast to braaiing at the boathouse, we were incredibly happy with the way that our guests were treated throughout the stay.
Definitely a place that I would recommend to anyone who wants to enjoy the magic of Magoebaskloof.

We booked to stay at Bramasole for a wedding that had shifted from the previous year due to Covid-19. We booked the best room, but unfortunately never made the stay due to the wedding being cancelled a second time. Throughout this period we had been in touch with Booking.com to request a refund as the trip to SA couldn't be made. As the Guesthouse was slow to respond to Booking.com we agreed to contact Bramasole directly. We had to make multiple calls, and send multiple emails before Bramasole would even respond. Eventually we got in-touch where they assured us our refund would be paid, however to please bear with them due to revenue recovery due to Covid-19. Whilst nigh on 2yrs in the booking, fair enough as keen to support businesses where possible. However, they have taken advantage of this good nature as over 3 months on, and 1 month post the actual booking date, we have still received nothing. The worst of this being after speaking with Vuyo on the phone being told that we would 100% receive our refund in full this week as she agreed 3 months was too long since agreement, and other refunds had since been made to other customers. Constant excuses being made to let me speak with my colleague, I believe Melanie in Finance, but again nothing! I'm sure Bramasole is located in a lovely part of SA, but please save your money, and look to book elsewhere with a more reputable guesthouse, one that actually communicates and doesn't make broken promises as it could clearly ruin your holiday / wedding day! We are now going through our Bank and Booking.com to highlight these failed assurances to the booking.

Superb guesthouse in beautiful surroundings. The azalea garden is something to behold and the sundowner platform is a winner in the late afternoon. The rooms are excellent, especially the Praque Room where we stayed. Great stoep that looks over the garden and the fireplace made for wonderful evenings. We had dinner delivered to our room and without exception it was excellent. The staff was friendly and provided great service.
For us however the best was the wonderful birdlife in the garden and also the well-marked forest walk. All in all a great experience, which convinced us to go back in summer.

Unfortunately, the long drive to come and an early race in the morning shortened my stay in this very peaceful place...
Very comfortable room, nice walks in the forests, relaxing time at the dam, cuddling the horses...
As I couldn't have the breakfast due to my early departure, they organised a breakfast box for me.
Good service...

We made a decision to stay at this guesthouse based on reviews, but were very disappointed. We booked 5 rooms and although the overall impression of the guest house is very nice, the practical elements are missing. The 3 upstairs rooms were attractively decorated but provide no seating in the rooms themselves, but at least the bathrooms included a toilet doors. The 2 bedrooms downstairs particularly the Venice room is very poorly designed. There is almost no lighting in the room and the bathroom is completely open plan, no toilet door even. To make it worse the shower is over the bath, which has no shower curtain and no bath mat in the bath, which in essence makes it dangerous to shower in this bathroom as the water sprays everywhere. We did mention this to the staff on duty. The breakfast was very poor with little variety. The hot breakfast items were always cold. The staff whilst very friendly they were often not around. We would not return.

While some of the Points Noted are certainly Valid, and we welcome Positive Criticisms and recommendations from our Guests, I wish to question the Motivation and fairness of parts of this Review. All Bedrooms Upstairs Have an Occasional Chair and two Dining room Chairs per room for a Two Person Room ( This is clearly visible on our Room Photo's) . How can this Claim be made? When the Client Mentioned the problem with the Shower/ Bath she was immediately offered and accepted an upgrade- ( why was this not mentioned in the Review). No complaint was ever made about the Breakfast being Cold- we would immediately have attended to this. We offer, Omlettes, Frittatta's, French Toast, Poached Eggs and A Rich Fresh Fruit Salad, Yoghurt, Muesli and a Variety of Parties, as well as Filter Coffee, Teas, Hot chocolate and Fresh Fruit Juices. We have recieved Numerous Compliments on our Breakfasts, but accept that there is alwys room for Improvement. I question why the Guest fails to note any of the Positives and Compliments during their Stay. The Guest conveniently forgets to mention that a Huge amount of personal Laundry was attended ( Washed, Dryed and Ironed) to at absolutely no Cost, for which no Credit or thanks was received. We are a Guesthouse and not a Hotel, so we do not have a Permanent reception Service- but we do have a All Hours Contact Number of the Person on Duty posted on the Front Door and in the room, who this Guest could have contacted at any time. It is always regrettable that a Guest chooses to make a review of this Nature, but makes absolutely no effort to address these Complaints with the Management and/or Staff who they engaged with on a Number of Occasions. It is also regrettable that this Guest has chosen never to return, as we would like to act on the Comments and show our commitment to Improving the Experience we offer our Guests.

No one was there to greet us on arrival. We stayed in the suite and when we walked in we were greeted with an overwhelming smell of damp, similarly the cupboards stank so we didn't unpack at all. The linen on the beds was threadbare and the towels in the bathroom had that "used" feel about them. My son stayed in the next room which was very dark that the lights were on the whole time he was in the room. Breakfast was okay - the coffee was absolutely terrible. We never got to meet our hosts the whole time we stayed and we had that uncomfortable feeling that we were just being tolerated - very strange!!

Responded 09 Apr 2010
We are sorry that “LinnyGauteng” was not impressed with Bramasole. I beg to differ on that there was no one to greet them on arrival, as we were all still in our offices when she arrived, our office is right at the main door, I was on the telephone when she came in I look at the main door from my desk and informed Bernice that our guests had arrived, she went out to meet them and she met them at the office door and showed them to their rooms. Bernice Ragedi was the hostess for the weekend as we all take turns for weekend duty, and she is extremely capable of looking after our guests. The owner said he actually spoke to Linny’s husband at the top of the stairs the one morning and asked him if they were okay, he confirmed all was fine. The owner’s mother on the Saturday evening went over to the family when they were sitting outside in the dark on the patio and asked them if she could turn the lights on for them (as the sun had gone down during time they were sitting there) they said no they were fine and were going back inside. So not too sure where never met anyone comes from. I myself asked Bernice to chat to them and find out where they come from as they seemed a bit unapproachable, she told me that at Breakfast when she spoke to them they weren't very chatty and we have learnt to give guests their own space when they are not the chatty type. Don't know why they would have felt that they were being tolerated, we normally make great friends with all our guests and not going to go into that further as that's one thing we always feel we might be too over-friendly with our guests. Re the overwhelming damp smell in the room, granted the room might not have been aired that well, we don't leave the windows open as we have had a lot of rain especially during the last months (our rain is measured in METRES not millimeters that's how much rain we get a year - we are situated in an extremely high rainfall area), the clothes hanging cupboard has a sickening sweet smell from cupboard air fresheners, granted and note taken that the rack cupboard in the suite has a slight musty smell. I will put in additional cupboard fresheners. Re the linen I beg to differ, its perquale linen and not threadbare and I'm not too sure what Linny means with that "used" feel of the towels, due to our green Lilliput water system we cannot use Stasoft on any linen or towels and it might not have felt “soft” enough. We apologise about the coffee but maybe some people don’t like filter coffee as we use Rombouts a Belgium coffee which is quite expensive. Re the rooms being dark, all rooms have glass paned French Doors with windows on each side, but our building is 1metre away from a rain forest?? In front of the Jade Room is a particularly large tree fern which all other guests are astounded with, most guests love being so close to the forest as it’s an unusual experience. We have taken the complaint seriously as this is the first complaint we have received since we opened in 2006 especially re "being tolerated" as we always make friends with our guests and have a good return rate, and also the room that they complained about is very popular with returning guests and we even get guests paying for their friends to stay in that same particular room because they enjoyed it so much.

This guest house was converted from a barn into a very remarkable guest house with carismatic bedrooms, no 2 rooms are alike and each with it's own theme.
The bedrooms used by us were the Jade Room, the Darnis Room for the teenagers and the Delft Room. The pictures on the website of the rooms are exactly as they really are and as such I did not have to take any!
http://www.bramasole.co.za/Rooms-Paris.html#jade
The Jade room, situated upstairs with a small balcony facing the forest, had a very convenient kitchenett with fridge, microwave and all cuttlery and crockery sufficient for 4 people. The kingsize bed was ever so comfortable with duvets and cotton sheets. The Bathroom is not closed off from the room and separated by 1 step. The toilett was enclosed ie en-suite.
The Darnis room was situated downstairs next to the breakfast area with access to the outside. The bath/shower was separated from the bedroom with a glass partition and the toilett is right next to the bath and not separated from the room which might put some folks off this room.
The rooms are supplied with tea/coffee/hot chocolate making facilities. I enjoyed the fresh milk in the fridge. These were replaced on a daily basis.
The breakfast served was great. You have a choise of cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruit, fruit juice, freshly brewed coffee, and your usual south african breakfast of bacon, tomatoes, sausages and eggs made to order. The ultimate on the breakfast was the freshly baked mini chocolate crousants! Breakfast was served at the time that it suited you.
You have the choice of sitting outside on the verandha if you so please.
The owner's regularly chatted with us and were extremely friendly and helpful at all times. As you meander through the forest, which borders the guest house, you come across many intriguing trees.
There is a lake situated right next to the guest house which is stocked with fish. This is a paradise for any flyfisher. There are many more lakes to fish from which are not far from the guesthouse.
During the winter months, when it is cold in the evenings, the owner's light a fire and you can sit by the fire on comfy couches. You are given a key to the front entrance together with your room key which enable you access at any time of the night.
The only thing that disturbed me was when guests arrived very late at night and were not very quiet, you would hear this in your room but once such guests are in their rooms, it is extremely quiet in your room.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and shall be back soon!
