This is a great place for people who are looking for a cute, rustic bungalow-style property. I enjoyed my stay there. A word of warning: all of Tulum/Cancun/Mayan Riviera is plagued by massive amount of foul-smelling seaweed most of the year now, except for Dec/Jan. The beaches are unusable. The only exceptions are western beaches on Cozumel and Holbox. I wish I had known. I'm not taking any points off for that though. However, the 3 star review is for the following: The location is not great. I picked it because I thought it would be close to both the town and the hotel zone. It's actually $30-60 cab ride away from either. No A/C. I knew that but I thought the temperature was going to be low enough not to need it. I forgot about the humidity. At 85 degrees, it feels like 95 even with the fan on. The rooms are cute but definitely dated. They need a remodel. On the other hand, the service was great. The bar/restaurant was awesome, and if it weren't for the seaweed, it would have been fantastic.

Truly a laid back bohemian experience and property, fits like a hand and glove with Tulum. Just perfect. The staff are fantastic and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Particularly the guys at Casa Maria. The food onsite is excellent. For whatever reason automatically woke before dawn each day so wandered down to the beach to watch the sunrise. Awesome. Bear in mind there’s no ac and was smoking hot in our cabanas but we knew what we were signing up for. Next time we’ll rent cabanas with toilets and showers. Again not a problem. Killed a rather sizable scorpion one morning who decided to set up camp in our cabana. He put up a good fight but in the end I just had too much for him. Just a minor inconvenience…. A curious experience at check in when the young lady at the reception asked if I habla espanol and I told her mi espanol es muy malo. She seemed a little disappointed, but oh well. (I’m just a gringo.) Anyway Leymer checked us out an he was super… All in all we’ll definitely return and recommend DK very highly.

Go to sleep and wake up to the sounds of the ocean and birds. These grand huts with thatched roofs and outdoor showers are off the main drag and offer the peace that you’re looking for. The food at the on-site restaurant Casa Maria is amazing and reasonably priced. There is no tv and no phone because that’s not why you are here. The WiFi is good. There is no ac, but the oscillating fan and ocean breeze will keep you more than comfortable. There is mosquito netting around the bed, but we had no problem with mosquitos. Be aware that you are in the jungle, so there may be interesting animal sightings in your outdoor bathroom, especially if you get up to go in the middle of the night, lol. There is free onsite parking. You should definitely rent a car so that you can easily visit area attractions, as well as get to and from the airport. To see the hotel zone, you can walk, drive, rent a bike, or take the colectivo for about a dollar.

This place surrounded by high palm trees and a beach cove is so charming. It's very romantic with the beach cabanas and everything we tasted was just so delicious! I recommend their passion fruit & rum house cocktail!

A delightful surprise!!! We stayed in one of the cabanas on the property. Every cabana is a unique experience, and ours was awesome. We had two queen size beds surrounded by these thin soft curtains. I guess they are there to keep out mosquitoes, but I didn't have any issue with them. Probably because there is always a good breeze blowing. Each bed has an oscillating fan on top which makes sleeping quite comfortable, even necessitating covers! Be forewarned, the rooms have no air conditioning, but the breeze makes up for it, especially with the windows open. The attached shower has no roof and it is a great feeling to shower right in the open, so to speak. 100% privacy, though. And really good hot water!!! Everything about this place is just wonderful and first class. Great restaurant and bar, lots of really comfy chairs and divans to enjoy the ocean view while having a drink, incredible staff and landscaping. We also felt very safe there. We locked the doors when we left, but that's not even necessary. We never used the room safe once. The place is 100% secure. Anyway, there are other a few other hotel and stand-alone restaurants on our street, (try Mezzanine for Thai/Mexican food. Very good!!!) and a very trendy restaurant/bar area on the road to downtown Tulum. You'll see it driving to the hotel and it's only a fifteen minute bike ride from the hotel. If a somewhat isolated, rustic but luxurious hotel is on your radar, this is really one to check out! The people at the reception desk speak near-perfect (or perfect) English, and quite a few of the staff also speak very good English. I found that to be the norm at other tourist spots in Tulum a well.
