Let me start by saying that most of the staff was amazing! The hotel was very clean; however, the rooms are very dark, depressing and walls are paper thin. We arrived to the Caribe after a 12 hr day from wake up, travel and arrival (3:00 pm). We walked in to a very dark lobby but checked in quickly. I asked a few questions and didn’t receive much of a positive response. Question 1: How can we make reservations for dinner this evening? Answer: You are too late for that. We didn’t receive any info on where to eat on the resort nor the sister resort next door. We were given a QR code for room service. Question 2: while we are here, can we schedule our Covid tests for our return to the US? Answer: No, not right now, I’m very busy. (I look around the dark lobby and no one is there…). I am then referred to the “concierge” sitting at a desk about 3 feet away. I ask the same 2 questions and get no response other than the start of a timeshare speech. I know this is the norm for the resorts in Cancun, but seriously! Why won’t anyone answer my questions!! We go to our room excited to start our vacation, open the door and we both just stand there. SUPER dark, windows are tiny, furniture is dark. We decide to make the best of it. Then the guests next door move in. Wow, every single sound can be heard. They move out next day and a new set of neighbors move in….worse! Loud music at all hours of the night and again in the early morning. No fault of the guests, the walls are just thin. After three nights of this, we had to move. Thank goodness for Giann Carlo! He was kind and I think could see the despair on my face. He was able to move us to the sister property, Royal Solaris. The remainder of our trip was fantastic. If you need to choose a Solaris property, I recommend GR Solaris first (previous stay) and then Royal Solaris.

We keep on going back. The main reason is for the staff. They are all so friendly, and will do just about anything to make you happy. The hotel is always clean and well landscaped. The housekeeping and maintenance staff are always visible and busy. I love that we can also use the facilities at the Royal Solaris next door, where the staff is just as good! The pools are nice, the beach is clean. The food is so good. I have some dietary restrictions, and they are always happy to listen. One of the chefs, Miguel Che, even made my husband and I a special dinner that we requested. The entertainment staff always keeps you busy; we loved Sam at the GR who remembers everyone’s name, and keeps the activity going. The waiters and bartenders are so good. Ricky and Eduardo at Cafe Solaris and Bogavante for breakfast and lunch. Nancy at the pool. Christian and QuiQue at the lobby bar are always smiling. Juvenal has become like family to us; best bartender! LauraPat has served us at so many locations throughout the resorts. Benjamin, the bellman, is so friendly. Special thanks go to Noe Castillo for going above and beyond every time we visit. We were happy to meet Carol, also from guest relations on this last trip. There are so many more individuals that made our trip amazing, once again. We will return “back home” in February. You will not be disappointed if you book this hotel.

There is much to recommend this all inclusive experience. The hotel is clean and the grounds are very well maintained. I thought the staff generally very friendly and helpful. Lines for drinks at the bar were never very long and wait service at the pool was also generally good. The food is was pretty good with some of the dishes bordering on excellent. Not surprisingly the best food was Mexican. Try the the divorced eggs at breakfast. I found the “assisted” buffets frustrating. Much of the food was not labeled and that which was labeled was often incorrect. The rooms are large but only a tiny number have balconies. I liked the overall look and chapter of the room. White stucco with several of the entries being arches. Nice change from cookie cutter hotel rooms. Our room desperately needed some TLC. All of the power outlets had trouble holding a plug. Also they were built before everyone carried electronics so they were inconveniently placed. Overall I thought the hotel a good value proposition. They have pool activities during the day which I sometimes found to be good fun and sometimes an intrusion. The pool vibe at GR Caribe is more relaxed than a the neighboring Royal. The Riyal pool was much more interesting, but was also lounger.
