I stayed here for a month in early 2023. The location is great- close to the Malecon and all things in Las Glorias and Versaille. We are living in very close proximity to other people but the guests are friendly. The pool is warm and all rooms face the pool. Almost everyone here is over 55. The worst is that many people smoke and so smoke wafts into the apartment at all times of day and night.

I am a 61 yr old female travelling solo so safety and security are important to me. Also, having the ability to make my own meals is great and makes the vacation so much more affordable. I found the right place with Plaza Santa Maria. It is older but very well kept with beautiful grounds and pool area that can be enjoyed form your balcony. The rooms are large (I had a sudio) with 2 queen beds, a bathroom with large shower, kitchenette with enough equipment for 4 people. The large fridge kept the groceries I purchased at the Mega store next door perfect until I could cook on the 2 burner stove top. The bus stop is just outside the Mega and the beach is a 5 minute walk away. All in all a lovely stay. I would recommend this for people on a budget that want a Mexican experience without the noise and modernistic resort atmosphere.

Although it is a resort type hotel Plaza Santa Maria is perfect for a short visit or long term rental because the units come with kitchens and bathtubs. We are in our second year and hopefully will be able to extend our contract when it is due in the spring. The staff are great and go out of their way to help even with the language barrier which they are trying to fix by taking English lessons. The grounds are very well kept and maintenance people are quick to fix any problems that arise. The location is perfect for access to the beach with buses and cabs just about outside the door for your shopping trips but the Mega Store is only a half a block walk. Also there is no time share people here. Families seem to enjoy it here because the pool is great and there is a play area for the little ones. It is hard to say what kind of trip this is because we choose to live here but I would love to bring my kids and grandchildren down for a visit.

I would like to share my experience, and give a review since it is important to make other potential guests aware of the policy practiced in this hotel.
Most of the guests here are from Canada and the USA, and they are long term tenants. Some people have stayed more than 8 years (!). My impression is that many of them are okay with the place, due to reasonable rent for long term guests, 12 months lease. However, I also noticed a lot of complaints about the management, and how they behaved, in general when it came to maintenance and things they had promised to fix, or include in the rent. Seemed like they would promise anything as long as the tenant paid cash upfront, and then the management could discount the rent each month instead. Example installing Ac in rooms, they would ask the tenants to pay cash for the purchase of the AC, and later install it, and then discount the rent each month for the tenant..'
However, my complaint is regarding the different answers and info you get from different staff about the rent, and rates. Also the same manager, gave me different prices, and then when I was goint to chose one option, he backed out and said the owners changed their minds and the offer was no longer valid, but an increase of the rate by 150 %! This was two days before I was supposed to arrive from Norway, meaning some planning was made, when you travel so far..
He then explained that he was only a worker and the owners, which are 4 siblings, inherited the hotel from their father, and they are not agreeing how to run the place. Now I know that he had just given the same discounted long term rates to other guests days before, so it was very strange.. Anyways, when I know that so many people mentioned how they are running the place and that you cannot trust them, because they come up it with different prices and offers, promise and not promise other things,.. I can understand that it is actually quite normal for this hotel business. Well.. up to each and everyone to judge for themselves, but I do not find a hotelbusiness serious nor professional when they operate like this..
The positive about the place is the pool area, but it is actually not cleaned regularly, so always a lot of insects and "things" in the water surface..

The rooms are very dark, dated and lacks maintenance and modern touch. The furniture are from the 70 ies and the bathrooms and cabinets are very old and dirty. And I experienced a lot of cockroaches especially in the bathroom.
The maids did a poor job cleaning, but were humble and nice. The same I can say about the general staff working around there, friendly people. However, there are so many hotels and places to rent in Puerto Vallarta, in particular now, so will definately find another place to stay next time!

I booked an apt in Plaza Santa maria for next year and left a deposit of $ 200, Somehow, I had to cancel the booking. When , I booked Mrs Laura sadana, the person in charge for the bookings, informed me, that in the event of cancelation, I would get my $ 200 back through bank transfer, I live in Canada. Some how after 2 month of waiting for my refund, I was told to go to pto Vallarta to pick up my refund, as they do not send any bank transfers, So I lost my money. These management STINKS, and they are Thieves. DO NOT STAY THERE!

These people have a policy of no pets, but we are kept awake all night by barking dogs. And, often in the day there is a pair of Pit Bulls which bark continuously often for up to 5 hours straight.Othere bark intermittently through the night. Hard to sleep at night and stay sane in the day.

Nice pool area with a friendly staff. We stayed one night and our room was not good. There was a hole in the bedsheets (no mattress pad), a partial pillowcase with make-up on it, which the staff changed for us. No phone to reach the front desk. No elevator and almost 50 stairs to our room. Only a wall air-conditioner in the bedroom which created a good pool of water on the floor by morning. Coffee maker didn't work. A very tired unit.

I arrived in PV later on a Sunday night and was hungry. A brief walkabout showed that any local restaurants were closed - and then I discovered a huge grocery store less than a block from Plaza Santa Maria. I stocked up and made use of the kitchen the room featured - then had a dinner of roast chicken and a salad while sitting on my deck overlooking the pool area. (This sort of set the tone for a lot of my meals in PV, as the cooked food variety at the grocery store was pretty good and so were prices!)
The room was better than basic - tv worked fine, large fridge and stove worked fine, a/c worked fine and the room was fairly quiet. My roomy balcony on the third floor overlooked the pool and was a great place to relax in the afternoon sun. There was also a sun umbrella on the balcony table.
Breakast was included - it was fine. Eggs or waffles if desired, cereal, coffee or tea, fresh juice, assorted fresh fruit. All in a large comfortable room off the lobby.
The staff were very helpful and friendly and always present if one was in the pool/lobby area. There is a well outfitted gym and self serve laundry facilities.
The pool area is large and catches morning and afternoon sun with a lot of reclining chairs available. Beach towels are available on a daily basis at reception. The pool area has nice foliage and plantings and several amusing iguanas. A very relaxing and comfortable place to read or work on a tan.
The location is a fair distance from downtown but it is a nice safe walk - even later at night. The bus service is also pretty good. Also - for anyone carrying on to, or visiting, Sayulita or Bucerias - the stop for those busses is right across the street.
The wifi is supposed to work only in the pool or lobb area but it also worked fine in my room, which was nice.
It is very clean, bright and safe. The room was larger than I expected and it is definately away from the large tourist presence in PV. I would recommend it for a longer stay. It is a short walk to the beach, down a lane and through a small parking lot. The beach, like all in PV, is average and parts of it are bouldery. The sand is coarse, Of course my favourite beaches are in Hawaii, Zanzibar and Australia - so it's not a fair comparison!
I would definately stay there again.

This is a very nice place. Not luxurious or particularly child oriented, lots of expats renting long term here. Location is very close to airport, prices are cheap, lovely outdoor pool. My room had two firm beds and full kitchen, patio, A/C, basic bathroom with towels. I liked this location for my last few nights, wanting to be close to the airport for my early morning flight back. It's a bus or taxi ride to the downtown area. If you are looking for something basic and clean for a great price, than this could be it.

I was looking for something I can affordable with great service . I came across this hotel and the prize. Was just what I was looking for . I reserved two studios . I had five adults and four kids with me . I was happy to hear they had a kitchen. That help save us even more money the grocery store was just next door. Bus passes were right in front. My family and I enjoyed our stay . They had a pool . I would recommend when you check in you count everything the room. Has because if something is missing they will charge you . My neice broke a couple of plates and we were charge . No big deal . Other than that I would recommend this place for people who are want to travel but are on a budget.

I brought dollars, I found an exchange office around the block but the best is to take money out of an ATM with your debit card.

The beach is within walking distance but you have to bring towels, you can rent an umbrella with loungers. The rooms are nice and clean with ice cold AC! I didn't see the pool get crowded at any time. There is free wifi but it's not very good. The people at reception are very nice and can answer your questions about the beach, restaurants etc. I definitely recommend this hotel.

Plaza Sta Maria does not have an Airport Shuttle but you can take a taxi from the airport. Some people cross the bridge to the other side of the highway to get a cheaper rate but I think it is just safer to take a taxi at the airport. On your way back, reception can call a taxi for you, it is not that far and it's not really expensive (I can't remember how much I paid).
