Hacienda San Angel's twelve luxuriously appointed suites are situated among a verdant oasis of lush gardens dripping with fiery bougainvillea and fragrant jasmine. Meticulously pairing Mexican Colonial decor with lavish amenities, the traditional hacienda atmosphere offers a comfortable yet refined respite. While each suite is distinctly different, all offer air conditioning, spectacular coastal views or private balconies, and a magnificent array of antiques and fine art dating to the 17th Century.

We were there just after Christmas Day 2020, be warned parking can be a challenge, narrow and steep streets, cab if you can. Aside from that well worth it, spacious dinning very Covid conscious and servers all have face shields. Service is outstanding, met every need. The food is worthy of the view to go with it. We started with a house margarita and martinis, well done. Starters, shrimp coconut cream soup and house salad with mango ginger dressing...must do. Our mains were the short ribs, very tender, Chilean sea bass, very good and the Shrimp Chile Poblanos, not too spicy, very flavourful. While expensive is a great place for a special night, last night in PVR or just looking to up your dinning menu....do it

Last evening I had the pleasure of dining at the Hacienda San Angel restaurant. Do not miss this experience. It was the highlight of my Puerto Vallarta visit. The atmosphere is no less than enchanting, from the hotel lobby furnished with gorgeous antiques, past what was originally originally Richard Burton’s living area and original kitchen, though the courtyard garden and up the candlelit steps to a rooftop dining area. The views are spectacular. The service people are friendly and spoke excellent English. They also demonstrated patience and genuine appreciation of what little Spanish I can speak.

The meals our table had were delicious. I had the tuna appetizer, salmon entrée and warm chocolate cake dessert. The tuna appetizer is generously portioned and comes with a balsamic soy dipping sauce. The salmon was cooked perfectly, moist and tender. The sauce for the salmon is fantastic. It accentuated the salmon without overwhelming the salmon. Others at our table had either lobster tail or filet mignon. Everyone boasted how good their meal was, each of us thinking we ordered the best option. I of course still think the tuna wins. I guess I’ll have to go back and try the other entrees to be sure.

Adding to the ambiance were the mariachis. They played 30 minute sets throughout the evening. Unlike many places I’ve eaten with live music, they played at an appropriate volume, loud enough to hear clearly and enjoy, but not so loud you couldn’t continue a conversation. The mariachi singers are outstanding, particularly the ones who mingled though the restaurant with near operatic quality voices. Truthfully, I never really cared for mariachi music before as it was always too loud and to intrusive and frankly not that good. This was anything but that. Perhaps this was the first time I’ve seen genuine quality mariachis. I look forward to hearing more music like that.

I was also delighted by the non intrusive presence of the 2 very well behaved little fluffy white resident dogs that would visit you at the table. The dogs seemed to love attention from dining guest, enjoying a scratch or two behind the ears and moving on without begging or disrupting the table. The staff told me the former owner who created the hotel and restaurant, the mother of the current owner, loved dogs and started a rescue in Puerto Vallarta and eventually founded the Puerto Vallarta SPCA. The 2 friendly dogs belonged to the mom and after her passing continue to live at the hotel with the current owner.

This evening spent with friends in such a lovely restaurant with such delicious food and wonderful entertainment is a night I shall long remember. Don’t cheat yourself, pamper yourself and visit this restaurant.

Oh my, what a lovely and thoughtful review. Thank you! I am more than delighted that you so appreciated the different aspects of your visit. My mother was passionate about dogs, antiques and mariachis...in that order. I am still adjusting to my mother´s absence but also feel enveloped by her here at the Hacienda daily. I´m doing my best to maintain and nurture her vision and legacy both at the hotel and for her dogs. We still host volunteers who adopt dogs from the no kill sanctuary created by my mother and fundraisers for the sanctuary. Thank you again for choosing to dine with us and for sharing your experience. Be well.

Hacienda San Angel was the most beautiful and picturesque place I've ever stayed in. I felt like I was stepping back in time. The paintings, lighting, and decor, were so impressive. We ate at the restaurant once but only because my husband and I enjoy trying different restaurants in town. All of the servers were professional, welcoming, and friendly. Every time we passed the maid she always asked if we needed anything. The continental breakfast every morning was also wonderful. We stayed in the Angels View Suite and the only downside to our stay was the bed. Unfortunately it was too hard which made for restless nights. Also, our suite was right above the restaurant and Sunday morning we were awaken by the preparations for Sunday brunch. But the positive side is that we could sit on the balcony at night and listen to the mariachi below during dinner hours. We'll definitely stay here again. This hacienda is what telenovelas are made of.

Thank you for your complimentary review and helpful feedback. I'm delighted you enjoyed your visit and would consider returning. We do try to pamper our guests and provide an enjoyable visit. Know there are other nice rooms further from the restaurant. Also our brunch is seasonal Nov through March and then only on Sunday mornings. I'm hoping with that info your next stay can be coordinated in a way that you have an even better experience. Getting mattresses just right for everyone is a challenge that I continue to work on as it seems some like them softer and some like them harder...sigh; restful nights are very important so this is an ongoing challenge to get it right for everyone. I regret I haven't quite figured that piece out perfectly yet. Thank you again for your patronage and feedback! Stay safe

Not one small detail goes unnoticed in this magical hidden gem! I’ve never experienced anything like it…the bedding is the softest, the carafes filled with fresh ice water through the day, the unique art and fixtures…I feel like I’m in heaven when I stay here. I’ve been several times and will continue to return. It’s a peaceful oasis just a walk away from the action in town.
It never feels crowded with multiple pools and lounging areas. The landscaping and design are top notch. You couldn’t recreate this place if you tried…it’s been decades of art/furniture collecting and design in the making.
It’s perfect for for a getaway to Puerto Vallarta because you can walk easily down the hill to all the fun, and then escape back up the hill to luxury in the clouds. Have I mentioned the view? Oh, there’s that, too. Gorgeous. You can actually watch the whales migrate along by and frolic in the bay.
And honestly you never even have to leave the grounds if you don’t want…there is the most superb restaurant right on site! Breakfast, lunch and dinner made to order and so gourmet! You must be sure to catch the best mariachi band in Mexico when making your dinner reservations- that is NOT to be missed!!
Ahhh, take me back to the hacienda already, I’m ready!
Seriously…go. It’s a 5 star experience all around and one you won’t find at any chain hotel. This is boutique luxury at its finest. One of a kind and the absolute best!!

Made a reservation here the first night arriving in Puerto Vallarta. Was unsure if we had the right location at first, then the large wooden door opened and we felt like we were invited into the palace. The wait staff was nothing outside of Michelin Star standards. The 3 course meal was part of the dining experience from different restaurants around Puerto Vallarta. The staff was attentive, the atmosphere decadent, food prepared and displayed with fine attention. I would recommend this place to anyone who is accustomed to fine dinning in a very unique setting or for those wanting the experience. Do yourself a favor and immerse yourself in the experience, dress for the occasion, don't show up in board shorts and flip flops.

We love Hacienda San Angel! It's our fifth stay here and won't be our last. From the moment the carved wooden door is opened by a smiling staff person and you step into the gorgeous courtyard you know you are somewhere very special. The grounds (four beautiful villas, combined) are perfectly kept and filled with sculptures, candles, art and flowers. There are four lovely tiled swimming pools and guests are free to use whichever one is most convenient or appealing. The rooms and terraces are filled with antiques and art, and the beds and bedding are sublime. Most rooms have views and some of the room have stunning views of the bay, ocean and hills.

The continental breakfast can be eaten at a long carved community table next to the courtyard, or delivered to your room. Food and drinks are available all day, and delivered to your room or poolside. There's a very nice restaurant on site for dinner, with appearances by a wonderful mariachi band.

Finally, the staff could not be any more friendly, welcoming and helpful. Some have been there for several years and it's always great to see them again. Hopefully soon!

To say the Hacienda is magical and special is an understatement. Casual elegance, old Hollywood glamour, paradise behind the old wooden door. Each room is it’s own unique experience. The food, staff, vibe - all excellent. Highly recommend staying here - walk to town, or take a boat from the Mallecon to a private beach down the southern coast. This place feels like the Paris of Mexico.

My husband and I had dinner at Hacienda San Angel with another couple in February of this year. We were very much looking forward to enjoying a gourmet meal and experiencing live mariachi music. Unfortunately the evening did not go as well as we had hoped. On the positive side, the location is spectacular, the venue breathtaking and the mariachi band was impressive. On the negative side, our waiter was exceedingly condescending and patronizing. In the 30 years that I have been enjoying restaurant meals I have never felt such contempt and disdain from anyone working in the industry. The food was okay but definitely overpriced. The Spanish coffees we had at the end of the meal were poorly prepared with substandard ingredients. The evening was supposed to be one of the highlights of the our trip to Puerto Vallarta. It became an experience I would sooner forget.

I am so sorry to hear of your disappointing visit to our restaurant. I'm also sorry to see this so late but still wanted to respond. Your experience was not the norm here and I apologize for that. As we reopen in September, I will certainly review your experience with our staff to avoid this experience for others. I do appreciate the time you took to give this feedback and for also giving us a try. I hope we will have another opportunity to "wow" you as we have been able to for others. In the meantime, thank you again and stay safe.

This restaurant is on the roof top overlooking Puerto Vallarta. The inside of the villa leading up to the restaurant is beautifully decorated and worthy of several photos. Once you reach the dining area, the tables are beautifully set and the service is impeccable.

The menu was fabulous and the meals we chose were fantastic. We had the short rib need and the shrimp brochette. I would easily order this again.

Reservations are strongly suggested which can be done on open table. Check the restaurants website as they have a Mariachi band that plays 6 days a week for 30 minutes both at 7:30 pm and 9:15 pm. You want to be sure you are there on the nights they play. This was a great experience which I would do again. You will not be disappointed! I see below that this is also a hotel. I am unaware of the hotel services as I was only a dining guest. But given the appearance of what we saw and the service we had, I would venture to say it is also great.

My husband and I just spent five nights in the Milagro Room at this charming, old world hotel. When you pull the rope to ring the front door bell and step inside, you are transformed into a gracious, stately home full of flowers, trees, birds, fountains, sculptures, artwork, antiques and Mexican tiles. Everywhere you look you find beauty.

It was quiet and peaceful but never stuffy.

With only twelve suites, you have nooks, crannies, pools and terraces to spread out. Breakfast was served on the terrace next to our room with views of the Bay, cathedral and occasional whales.

At night, with a glass of wine, we watched the sunset, fireworks and listened to the church bells.

Housekeeping staff makes sure your suite is supplied with ironed sheets that smell like sunshine, ample Turkish towels and luxury toiletries including their own Angel soaps. Thank you Vicky!

The service was excellent both at the front desk, room service and housekeeping. In late afternoon, fresh towels, a large carafe of ice water and a box of decadent chocolates are delivered to your room.

My favorite thing about this hotel was their attention to detail. The linen bathrobes were divine. Linen napkins bearing the HSA logo were at every meal along with linen placemats, HSA embossed china and an eclectic mix of flatware that was whimsical and charming and made every meal feel like a holiday.

Even the room keys are works of art!

We only ate one meal in the restaurant, but often dined by the pool or on our terrace using room service. There were also many lovely restaurants close by to experience.

We hope to return.
