Nestled in a stunning location, The Hacienda at Krystal Altitude Vallarta is a hit with guests for its pristine grounds and inviting pools, all wrapped in a vibrant atmosphere. Travelers appreciate the comfortable and often spotless accommodations, though opinions on room service and maintenance vary. While the hotel staff garners compliments for their cordial demeanor, some visitors have encountered lapses in service efficiency. Despite the charm and potential for relaxation, a number of guests feel that the hotel's offerings do not quite justify the expense, particularly noting shortcomings in amenities and dining options.

As a comparison, I have stayed at quite a few 5 star all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean. We purchased a vacation package to Krystal Altitude on a Cyber Week sale at the end of November 2022, so the price was right! firstly, the service at the Hacienda Krystal Altitude Vallarta was outstanding when I was there in December 2022. All of the staff were so helpful & so friendly, but our concierge Roberto Callejas was outstanding. He made a point of introducing himself and checked in with us every day to ensure we had everything we needed. Thank you Roberto, you are truly an amazing ambassador for this resort!

A few other items of note. We had a swim-out room with 2 queen beds. The room was very spacious, the bathroom was large with a very long, double sink vanity, and large shower. Our pool temperature was quite cool for the first few days so we mentioned this to Roberto. Next day, the pool was warmer!

The hotel property was very well taken care of. Every timed we turned a corner there was staff cleaning. Our room was cleaned daily and the fridge was stocked daily. No exceptions.

The infinity pool on the top floor was a fantastic feature! Fabulous views of the Pacific and they served sushi every afternoon.

The only con I would mention is the inconsistency of the restaurants. The food at the outdoor grill and at some of the restaurants was not good. There could be improvements made. We enjoyed the food at the French restaurant, it was the best of them all. We were not at all impressed with the Mediterranean restaurant. The buffet was good for breakfast but we didn’t like it for any of the other daily meals.

Overall, we were very impressed with this resort and would return for a reasonable price!

Reviews are subjective, and without a marginal amount of background on the traveler(s) one may not get the full scope of a person’s expectations based on their previous experience(s). So here goes!

My wife and I have been to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico approximately 30 times. We have stayed in a dozen or more different resorts ranging from 3 to 5 stars. Our resort experiences have ranged from poor to good to very good. We have never reviewed a resort before but have decided that this resort and the service we received necessitates one.

Our stay was from November 26th to December 10th . The check-in was extremely smooth and lasted less than 10 minutes. We were quickly accommodated with our request to check out our room before the luggage was sent, to ensure the room met with our approval. It did! We stayed in a ‘Pool View Junior Suite’, with a very comfortable King bed.

From requiring additional hangers, to fixing a wonky coffee maker to replacing a troublesome safe, each request was fulfilled quickly.
Each and every person that served us for these 14 days was exceptional in their desire to ensure that we felt special and had our needs were met. It’s hard to single out a handful but Emma, Deluce, Milton, Gerrardo and Maurillo always went above and beyond. These five were instrumental in us deciding to come back to this same resort in March.

As for the annoyance! Every morning on the roof top bar where the infinity pool and sushi bar are, there is a gathering of the time share employees that monopolizes the area until around noon, sometimes even 1:00pm. This is a very beautiful space that would be better served to accommodate existing guests as opposed to seducing potential ones. It’s not a deal breaker but c’mon wrap it up earlier!

We stayed at the all-inclusive Hacienda at Krystal Altitude from March 31 to April 7 and had an amazing time from start to finish! The Hacienda is the adults only side of this resort. Highly recommend it if you're looking for a quieter vacay! Everything was wonderful from the beautiful beach views, especially at sunset, huge well appointed, clean rooms, with comfy bed and pillows, stunning, well kept grounds and pool areas to the delicious food at the buffets and the a la carte restaurants. Food was always fresh and plentiful as well as a great variety. Some have complained here about the small serving sizes at the specialty restaurants but we found them just right. We went to all of them but really liked the French restaurant best. Went there, on our last night, and my husband had the Chateaubriand. He said it was the best he's ever tasted and he's really picked about his steak! Everyone at this resort always had a smile and a hello for you. A very special shoutout, and thanks, to Catherin at Le Buffet. She stood out as one of the best of the best!!

Only downside is there is a definite lack of evening entertainment but that didn't really bother us at all. All in all, I would say this is one of the nicest all-inclusive resorts we've every stayed at. Thanks, Hacienda, we'll be back, for sure!

Room was dirty and sometimes housekeeping didn’t even show up to clean the room. Getting towels, especially washcloths, took several phone calls almost daily. Food is not good at all. We paid extra to stay on the adult Hacienda side of the resort and I don’t see the benefit of it. The pool on the resort side is way better so we went over there every day. This place has definitely gone down hill since Krystal took over. If you are thinking of booking this hotel, you’re better off staying somewhere else if food and cleanliness is important to you.

Lobby; beautiful and calm. Nice vegetation

Room: modern and stylish, very good mattress, deep tub. Private pool very cold and unclean.

Restaurants: shared with adjacent Krystal hotel. Few of them. Sushi bar is NOT a restaurant. No booking but never any place for you although many tables empty. All food was bland and poor quality. Plates are very well arranged so it’s all the more disappointing when take your first bite. Service is unequal. Very good servers and some extremely bad ones. Punctuality is not a thing here for restaurants, buffet or coffee shop. Always late. Anywhere from 10-30 minutes.

Beach: no beach at Hacienda. You have to walk over to adjacent Krystal to get to the beach(not far). Also have to reserve your chairs pretty early but do not hog chairs at beach and pool at the same time. The pool concierge will remove your towel and clip and that single flip flop you left on 2 chairs. Or what ever else you left after 45-60 minutes of absence, (I very much agree with him).

Pools on Hacienda side (adults only) are heated and very beautiful and quiet. Not so much on Krystal side. Excellent barman and servers. Fast and friendly. Top employee was hands down Gustavo barman at El Pozo pool bar on Hacienda side. You can not stump him. And he’s so respectful.

Lobby and concierge: great staff. Helpful and fast.

Very close to airport and downtown Puerto Vallarta, so 10$ will get you there.
Humpback whales sightings in January as they migrate south.

My wife and I stayed at the Hacienda for 5 days from late December 2022 to early January 2023. We had a great stay on this property! The beach and pools were awesome, the buffet food was top notch, and the service was mostly good. My only complaints have to do with miscommunication amongst staff and - to a lesser extent - with hotel guests. I will provide a few examples.

We went to the Skybar 3 times during our stay but on 2 occasions, the Skybar was closed for no apparent reason. We went to the reception desk to ask why and even the clerk was surprised to learn that it was shut down. The clerk called someone and discovered it was closed for maintenance.

For New Years celebrations, there was a desk in the lobby to reserve a seat for the buffet dinner. We asked the staff member about this and were told the cost was $160 per person. So my wife and I decided to go into town for dinner that night instead. However, we later learned that the $160 fee applied only to non-hotel guests. It would have been nice to know that ahead of time.

On the final day of our stay, we were at the beach and ordered some simple drinks (rum, soda, and lime). The server eventually arrived with what appeared to be grapefruit margaritas. Before we could say anything, the server had already gone to get more drinks from the bar. Unfortunately, my wife cannot eat or drink grapefruit for dietary reasons. So not only was our order wrong, but we could not actually drink the beverages that were given to us.

Lastly, we paid an extra $70 for late check out because our flight home was in the evening. We had until 6PM to vacate the room. While we were packing our bags, around 5PM another guest was able to open our door with their key card! It was a good thing we were in the room or else these other guests would have had access to all of our belongings. Clearly, there was some miscommunication at the front desk.

In conclusion, these minor inconveniences did not have a huge impact on our trip. It is unfortunate that these things had to happen though. I will say again that everything else was perfect but I would carefully consider recommending this property to other travelers.

Our vacation at The Hacienda started out very badly. We arrived at the hotel lobby on a Friday night. There was one person « working the reception ». It took over an hour before he even acknowledged us. Finally it was our turn. The individual behind the desk asked our names and reservation numbers and then stared at his computer for 5 minutes before telling us that he did not have a room for us. OK .. so… you would think that when you book a room or room type, it would be pre-assigned to you and upon arrival, registration would be a 5 minute thing. Well … not at The Hacienda. This gentleman then tried to sell us on an « upgrade » on the Altitude side. We had paid for a swim out room at The Hacienda because we liked that it was Adult Only and the grounds looked lush and inviting. Tired and frustrated we agreed to see the « upgrade ». The room was a bit bigger than the one at The Hacienda and it was a swim out. But, it was located right behind the lobby stage, where all nightly entertainment was held. Some upgrade!! We returned to the reception and now dealt with the “manager” telling him that we did not want this room. Again no room available in The Hacienda. We kept on him …. Finally we agreed to stay in the « upgrade » for the night, with the promise of our originally paid for room the next day in a specific block. Because of check outs, he couldn’t promise a specific time, so told us to stay in the room until our proper room was ready. Great …. We thought. The following morning, we returned to the Reception to confirm things with the “day manager”. She knew of the situation, but told us we had to be out of the temporary room by noon ! We were then without a room until 4PM. So … the long of it is that we were stressed, frustrated and generally pissed off for the first 24 hours of our vacation. For this reason only, my review for The Hacienda is not great. This place needs to get a better room allocation system, they need to pre-assign rooms for their guests and they need new Reception staff and managers with a customer focus.

It’s too bad because this place has a lot of positives. The Hacienda’s grounds are lush, you feel like you are in the jungle. The service, be it on the beach, around the poor or at the restaurants is great and the food is very tasty. We did enjoy the rest of our vacation.

The resort is very beautiful and the pictures are accurate but it’s all the things you can’t see in the pictures that make this resort horrible. Let’s start with the worst which is the food. This is my 6th all inclusive resort in Mexico and it was the worst food I’ve had in Mexico. You have to make reservations days in advance and you only get a certain number of reservations based on how many nights you stay you cannot go every night your there. When we went to restaurants however they were practically empty. The steakhouse and Mexican both are on the hacienda side but had children running around each restaurant misbehaving and causing a scene not very relaxing. The steakhouse food tastes good but the steaks are all a different cut and not cooked correctly to your requested temperature. The Mexican was horrible the steak was rubber, the choices were very small and nothing I would normally eat for Mexican. The Italian was the best the pasta tasted good, the appetizer and desserts were also good. The buffet is tiny compared to other resorts this size. They have theme nights which is nice to change it up but also bad if you hit a theme night you don’t like. The sushi bar only has three rolls, three nigiri to chose from and it is all rice and very little fish. The Hacienda pool was the best part of this trip. Omar was amazing! Always friendly and smiling and kept our drinks full at all times. The pool on the Hacienda side is slightly cold in the afternoons when the sun goes behind a neighboring resort. We were going to check out the family side pool but it was disgusting it was murky and had a sewer smell. There are also some friendly iguanas that will eat lettuce out of your hands. Our room was nice but others in our group had mold in the corners of their bathroom and a shower that would flood. We got a swim out room and the water was too cold to be in it at all. It was a complete waste save your money. The Wi-Fi goes in and out often. We also had the power go out on and off. The staff was all very good especially Omar. The only staff we had issues with was Elizabeth in the lobby. Our friends wanted to book a zip line tour they told her multiple times they did not want to listen to the timeshare talk but she insisted they take a coupon for the zip lines only to find out afterwards it’s was a timeshare talk coupon that they had said no to multiple times. She spent the rest of their trip harassing them tracking them down at breakfast even getting a foot away from their face standing over them at one point when they were sitting in the lobby. Raya the other lady also got rude with us about the situation. Do not book any excursions on the Hacienda side these lady’s are horrible and made it impossible for us to be in the lobby. This resort overall caters to the local tourist and not the American tourist. Many staff spoke no English, and the food was more for local tourist liking not a resort for Americans.

I am going to share the truth about my recent stay at this hotel, highlighting both the positive and negative aspects.

Let's start with the positives. Edgar, the concierge, deserves special mention as he is an exceptional individual and one of the nicest people I encountered during my stay. His helpfulness and pleasant demeanor truly made a positive impression. However, I cannot say the same for the front desk staff, particularly the individual with the tattoo on his hand. Unfortunately, I found his service to be quite rude and unprofessional. It was disappointing to observe that this person frequently needed to consult others for assistance or guidance when confronted with simple inquiries. I believe this issue should be addressed promptly to ensure a more satisfactory customer experience.

Moving on to the positive aspects, the hotel rooms were absolutely amazing. Despite the intense heat and humidity outside, the air conditioning in the rooms was perfectly calibrated, providing a comfortable and refreshing environment. Furthermore, I found the rooms to be impeccably clean, and the beds were extremely comfortable. The hotel's grounds were also well-maintained, adding to the overall appeal of the property.

Unfortunately, I have to express my disappointment regarding the food and drinks at the hotel. The so-called "specialty restaurants" were quite laughable. It was evident that they repurposed empty spaces to create a French, Italian, and "Steak House" restaurant, the food quality selection and preparation, as well as service execution, fell short of expectations. The overall quality of the food and drinks provided throughout the resort is subpar, leaving much to be desired in terms of taste, presentation, and authenticity.

In conclusion, while there were positive aspects to my stay at this hotel, such as the exceptional service provided by Edgar and the excellent room conditions, there are areas that require improvement. Specifically, the front desk staff's professionalism and knowledge should be addressed promptly, and the quality of the food and drinks in the specialty restaurants must be significantly improved to meet guests' expectations.

This was our 4th visit in 5yrs and our first since the change in ownership. We found many of the things we enjoy about this resort unchanged HOWEVER there has been a very unfortunate change to the a la carte booking policy. On previous visit we were able to reserve a number of evenings dinners at check-in. Now each evening’s reservation must be made “on the day” beginning at 8:00 am, with none available on our arrival day.

On our second day we attended the booking desk at 10:00 am and we’re told the first available booking at any a la carte was not until 9:00 pm.

Setting an alarm while on holidays in order to book the evening’s meal is not what I expect to have to do in a resort of this price range.
