The staff was very nice, the room was a huge disappointment and the food was under par. There were no reading lights near the bed and the furnishings were dated, not nice and the bathroom pitiful, roadside motel standards really. Only if your standard is cafeteria food will you be satisfied with the meals. The grounds are clean and OK, the nicest part is the view of all the yachts that drift by. But, none of the amenities you would expect of a supposed 4 Star resort. It is a 2 Star at best.

Pre covid in feb 2020 we booked a 1 week stay here with our family, we booked directly through the hotels manager Lic, when covid hit our vacation was cancelled by the hotel and were told we could get a refund. It has now been 15 months since we were told we could get a refund and not a cent has been refunded! Absolutely appalling service from all staff involved, Sonia, Aida Torres have both told me i will expect a refund next week and still nothing! I have called every second day for 12 months as it was $3700 Canadian dollars that we paid for our family. I have even offered to take part of the refund in credit to be used next time but still nothing! Not even the credits! This hotel is a disgrace to the area and to Mexico!

Dear Working Non-Family Traveler, An initial piece of advice I would like to share with you is, do not stay at this hotel/resort. You may be asking “why?” Please, let me share my story with you. My partner and I are working from home due to COVID-19 and are fully vaccinated, which has given us the ability to spend some non-home time together in another place besides his home in another part of Mexico or my home in the United States. I did some investigating into the different options available to us in Puerto Vallarta. Based on the photos, some “minimal” review reading, the package, etc., we decided to call to evaluate the wireless internet situation because it is critical to our stay. We called the hotel and spoke with a staff member. They advised us that the hotel did not have wifi in the rooms, only in the common areas (pool, lobby, and one to two other locations). They told us they had a “central business center” on the second floor that was enclosed so there would be minimal noise with great/strong wifi. We decided to go through a travel agency; they also called the hotel to ask the same question and were given the same answer. From there, we decided to book with Vamar Vallarta. Side Note: My partner is Mexican and is fluent in Spanish, as well as the travel agency. This gave little room for error in communication. - ROOMS - The website shows and describes recently remodeled rooms with desks, paintings, plants, and more. Our room was not as shown on the website. Our first room, 3083, had no desks, blank walls, a broken curtain, a hole in the wall, no shower door, and no chairs. It was extremely basic, and of course, this was not what we booked. There are some photos uploaded with this review showing the outside lamps at 10:18 pm shining through the bathroom and bedroom window. There are no curtains for these windows. It looks as if it is early morning. There is a second photo uploaded, directly after, where the light is blocked using our suitcases, blankets, a table, pillows, and towels. The curtains would not fully close because it was ripped and the rod was missing. We had asked to be moved to another room, three days in a row, due to the lights and other issues. The one manager attempted to show us another room, but it had the same amenities and lighting situation. It was not until the fourth day did the other manager, Fernanda, do something about it. We moved into our new room that night, and we were extremely thankful for someone finally doing something about it. The only downside was, it was extremely basic in what it had (blank walls, no desk, no plants, etc.) This was room 4132. Cautionary Note: Be careful if you are in the shower/bathroom with the window because it is low to the ground and people passing by can see you naked or getting ready if it is open. - WIFI - As mentioned previously, we called the hotel, as well as the travel agency, to verify their “central business” center and wifi strength/capability. The first day we arrived, we decided to test the wifi and look for the “business center” on the second floor. We came to find out that the business center is set up like a cyber café with three computers that open up into the entire lobby and the outdoors. It is extremely noisy. If you are attempting to work from your laptop, have meetings, etc., this is not for you. Also, this was not what was described. We decided to check the wifi; it was awful. This is due to the wifi router, in all areas of the hotel, besides one, being overwhelmed by the number of people on it. G-mail kept failing due to the low bandwidth. We did test it out two days, consecutively, and we had the same result. We told the staff of the issue, and they notified us that the area is their “business center,” which, let’s be honest, carries a lot of weight. That is not a business center. We had to press the reservations manager about other wifi areas. After one hour of discussing the situation, she told us about a separate area of the hotel where the “Salones” are. This wifi proved to be strong and capable, if, there were not a lot of people accessing it. The “Salones” area is removed from the hotel and is on the second floor. It is composed of three separate rooms. These rooms are used by the hotel to house incoming and outgoing tours. They also promote it on their website for “busy executives.” My partner and I were unable to schedule one to use for our work throughout the week because it was only for the hotel and “conferences.” They said we could find a spot wherever and work. It was extremely disappointing and frustrating because we were now forced to be enclosed in a room without sunlight or windows. We thought again, “this is not what we were told or wanted.” We were expecting windows at least. As we were working, we were told to vacate the rooms because the hotel needed them even though the hotel told us we could be here since they did not have a lot of tours. On a separate occasion, my partner went to the dining area, which was closed at the time, to do his meeting over the phone. It has sub-par internet there. I went on the other side of the wall from where the router was to do my thirty-minute meeting. The “head of security” approached me and told me I was not allowed to be there because it was staff only. I apologized and told him I was permitted to work here by one of the managers because they needed the room I was working in. He said, “Who was it? You have five more minutes, and then you need to leave. If not, then we will have more issues.” I then had to interrupt the meeting I was conducting behind a stack of pallets and plastic and move to where the “Salones” were again with a lot of noise. This was one of the most frustrating parts of our stay here. Cautionary Note: Do not come to Vamar Vallarta if you need wifi. - BEACH - If you are looking for a resort where you walk out of the hotel to a clean and open beach with a swimming pool off to the side, this is not the hotel for you. The beach access is a ten-minute walk from the hotel, which is fine. The problem is, is that there is almost no space once you arrive because there are so many people. There is a shortage of umbrellas which means you have to drag your seating to a shaded area or you need to wait it out, which could be a while. Also, there is a wall and then the beach, which makes it only maybe 10 feet to 15 feet between the wall and the water except during high tide, there is practically no beach to walk on. This is also not well described in the photos or the descriptions. Cautionary Note: The beach is dirty and littered with trash. You come to the beach to enjoy the beach. I spent thirty minutes picking up trash from the short stretch of beach in front of Vamar Vallarta. I attached a photo of only a sample of trash I collected. There was trash floating in the water, buried in the sand, etc. I know that clients can be extremely messy and they should pick up after themselves, but Vamar Vallarta has an obligation to protect the ocean and the planet because they receive their income from it. Where is the accountability for this littered beach? Plus, we are paying a lot of money. - FOOD - There are a few different dining areas. - Main Dining Area: this is connected to the hotel, below the pool, and next to the marina. - Italian Restaurant: This is located at the entrance of the hotel. - Snack Bar: This is located ten minutes away from the hotel. - Seafood Restaurant: This is located ten minutes away from the hotel, opposite the snack bar. The Main Dining Area was crowded, mainly for dinners, every night. You could be waiting in line for roughly 10 minutes to 25 minutes. It is served in buffet style with workers serving you portions due to the pandemic. The food quality is not great except for a few signature dishes. It honestly feels I’m lining up at a hog trough where they throw everything onto your plate in one bunch. The Italian Restaurant is the best tasting food. I thoroughly enjoyed my two visits here. You have to reserve it the day of. If you don’t reserve a space before 9 am the day of, all the spots are generally gone. The Snack Bar only serves hamburgers, tacos, and pizza. Do not get anything there besides the tacos. The tacos are good, but the other food is dry and flavorless. You also are not allowed to take food outside of that area. This rule complicated things for us because when the main dining area is closed, that is the only food place. If we wanted food, we needed to walk to the beach, eat, and then walk back. This didn’t work very well because we were working at the hotel in that closed-in room don’t forget. The Seafood Restaurant, we did not try. The drinks at the hotel are nothing super special. They are all served in a plastic cup besides in the main dining area. I feel, and my partner feels, they are poorly made. It is as simple as that. Cautionary Note: Reserve at the Italian Restaurant, if possible, because you will get flavor! - CANCELLATION - As you can imagine, we attempted to cancel with the hotel within the first day because we realized that the wifi was not going to serve us and we were not going to be getting the experience we wanted (we paid 20,000 pesos or a little over $1,000 for roughly a week). The hotel, specifically the reservations manager, said to us that they would be willing to cancel our booking. The caveat was that the travel agency had to cancel it for us. We talked to the travel agency. They called the hotel with us on the line two times, the hotel did not answer. Finally, the travel agency got a hold of them and attempted to cancel with them two times. The hotel denied our request! We were willing to pay for the day, but we wanted our money back to go have an experience that we were looking for to relax. Cautionary Note: Book directly with the hotel if you would like to cancel. You may get further than we did. Better yet, do not book here at all. - CORONAVIRUS PRECAUTIONS - You can see that the hotel is “trying” to have some form of coronavirus policies in place, but they are practically non-existent. There is no social distancing and little masks use by guest. There were packed lines, packed pools. This was another reason we wanted to cancel. I saw ten people pack into an elevator with no facial coverings on, and I immediately said no. There is no enforcement of these guidelines, rules, policies, etc. Cautionary Note: If you are worried about COVID-19, do not book here. - GENERAL THOUGHTS - I have been extremely dissatisfied with my stay at Vamar Vallarta. I had such hopes from the photos, the descriptions, the staff information we were given, and more. I sincerely feel this hotel does not deserve to be four stars. This hotel is made for families, although if I had family, I would not bring them here. The hotel is short-staffed due to the pandemic, but also, I spoke with eight staff members about the situation. They said that it is partly the pandemic but is also because the hotel does not care about its workers, they treat them badly and it does not pay them well. The non-management staff is kind and talkative. They are warm! The problem with this hotel comes from its management staff and administrative hierarchy. These “small guys,” were the highlights of our stay. To those working, non-family travelers, please, do not book here. The price might look right, the photos might look good, and the wifi “great,” but this could not be farter from the truth. This is why it will be my first and my last time, ever, at Vamar Vallarta.

This hotel is the worst! Do not stay here!!!! My family and I came for a few days to relax and I was literally mad everyday due to the way the service was.. during our stay we never got offered drinks, the food is not great, we ended up ordering from Uber eats which was stupid because we payed for the all inclusive.. but whatever! Our room was dirty and smelled like urine when we first got it. We went to the marina cafe for breakfast and Guillermo one of the waiters always wanted to move us from the table we had picked. He didn’t even help us move. I have a baby that was already set up in the high chair and I had to carry the high chair and move it because we couldn’t seat where we had sit. After that nobody came to our table to offer us drinks so we had to get up every time which is fine with me, but if they would want a tip I believe that the waiters have to earn it!!! Also the snack restaurant at the beach was not the great, they were pretty busy on the day we went and I wanted a pizza and my husband also wanted a pizza and the lady said that only one pizza per table... when she was bringing more than one pizza to the other tables.. here we didn’t get offered any drinks... which is fine again because we could get up but we were definitely not tipping!!! Overall this hotel was the worst! I have the membership at the hotel xcaret and believe me there I have been treated so good!!! We have even tipped someone $100 dollars for how awesome service he gave us! So do not come to this hotel if you want to have a nice vacation!!

We (2 adults, 3 kids) spent a full week at Vamar Vallarta and met Antonio on our first morning there. Walking to breakfast he asked if we'd want to take a bike tour after we ate. It was awesome, he took us around and showed us things we wouldn't see on our own. His joy and positivity was infectious as he really seemed to enjoy making our trip the best it could be. Antonio truly Made our trip better with his warmth and friendliness. We sought him out for opinions on other trips, etc and he always went above and beyond to help our stay be better. He roped me in to singing karaoke and even joined us for some food one evening. He is such a great addition to their hotel and I look forward to going back when we can make it with our family. Thank you Vamar and thank you Antonio, our family had a wonderful time!
