El Pescador Hotel is often described as a charming establishment with a cultural vibe, where guests can enjoy pristine rooms that boast beautiful ocean vistas and an authentic Mexican feel. The rooms are consistently lauded for their cleanliness and comfort, although there are occasional remarks about them being basic. Nestled in a prime location, the hotel offers easy access to local attractions and city life. Visitors appreciate the well-kept amenities, including the pool and complimentary breakfast, and commend the friendly service, even if there are occasional communication hitches. While some guests consider the hotel a good value, others are less convinced, citing extra charges.

Our friends stayed there last year and described it as a Mexican hotel and enjoyed it.
Friendly check-in/check out. We loved it for our two day stay pre Vidanta. Had an ocean view. Firm mattresses. Air conditioning would be considered loud by some but effective and we were happy. Clean. Showers worked well. Beach is not great but that is the case for the downtown beaches.
Provided jug water outside the room areas though PV water is purified.
Friendly breakfast which if free you just want a continental breakfast. A la carte was tasty.
5 min walk from the Malecon. 5 min from the original Barracuda restaurant (better than the Nuevo Vallarta version) or el Solar which is adjacent or Rio Grande which is frequented by Mexicans and super tanned tourists.
We will go there again next years for 3 nights to take advantage of the town pre Vidanta.
This is a simple place. If you are looking for the Hilton, go there and pay the price. If simple is good then this may be for you. Can't beat the location.

Best price and best location! On the beach (a minute walk to the sand) and five minutes from Malecon. Rooms are simple, comfortable, and have everything you need. Great air conditioning. Amazing balcony ocean view. I love that there are water stations on each floor- easy to access and stay hydrated as Vallarta is very humid and warm. If you're looking for a local experience, this is the place!

Nice hotel but a little overpriced. The room I had faced the ocean and pool lovely view with seating on balcony. Room was spacious and bed was a pillowtop nice and comfy. Table and chairs and a refrigerator in room was nice for cold beer. There was some mold in bathroom but shower was great. Water (warm) was shared among guest as a big bottle to help yourself but was not sanitary as you had to manual remove top. Very close to the boardwalk and all stores and shopping. Beach has no umbrellas or chairs provided. Poolside was also nice closed early so no night noise. I like that the public areas in the building was open to fresh air especially in times of Covid. However some of the Mexican visitors allow their children to run and scream in the halls, very annoying especially when trying to sleep. Should put up sign to remind them no to make noise in halls. Restaurant was OK but there are many to explore just around the corner. The best was at The Mango (turn left and its the first street towards beach) All you can eat buffet excellent. The good part is you get to stay at a hotel for half the price of a larger hotel. Friendly staff and good maid service. I would return if I can find a better price. Very safe even at night.

We booked this hotel on the recommendation of friends when we couldn’t get a room at their hotel.
We did not expect the Ritz, we knew it was a basic hotel but we also didn’t expect it to be so uncomfortable.
We were in a ‘premium’ ocean view room.
The beds were so hard we literally could not sleep on them. We requested a room change which they denied but in their defence they did a mattress swap with somewhere outside the hotel for slightly more comfortable mattresses.
If the hotel had been renovated it was not the rooms, only the main floor.
In our room the air conditioner only worked if you set it under 10 degrees and was very noisy. The outside could be seen around the edges of the machine as it wasn’t sealed.
In the bathroom the sink had been painted and was peeling.
The tap leaked when you turned it on. There was very little water pressure in the shower and there was mould in the corners.
While we were in the room an employee arrived and sprayed for bugs while we were in the room. Spraying good, while we were present, not so good.
If you don’t go outside at 6 in the morning to mark your chair by the pool forget it, you won’t get one.
All in all, be aware. If you don’t care about your room and just want to be on the ocean and close to the Mallicon fine.
The staff were friendly.

Room was in need of a major upgrade. Water pressure in the sink was very low, hot water in the shower minimal. Air conditioner made a lot of noise, turned it off to sleep. Service in the restaurant was abysmal at best, when we asked for limes, the server carried them over - in his hand! Have stayed once previously, but won’t be again

I have stayed at Elp Pescador for the past 2 Januarys. There is so much I have been unhappy about, but the location and reasonable prices helped me swallow the shortcomings. NOW, in looking for winter 2024, I see that they have more than doubled the price (about 2 1/2 times, from what I can see). It was questionable and barely worth the prior prices, but definitely nowhere near being worth their asking prices going forward. The rooms are clean but VERY basic and the beds are not comfortable. Hot water is usually available (if you let the water run long enough) , but not always.
The housekeeping and maintenance staff are both very friendly and helpful, but the front desk staff, not so much.
If you are paying for a place with a pool, forget that....unless, you are willing to be up at 5 am to fight for a spot to put your towel on and claim your spot. They allow guests to "claim" a chair at the beach by virtue of a towel and those people may never even end up using it that day. Most chairs sit empty (other than the presence of a towel) for most of the day while other people are denied the right to a seat. If you bring that up to staff, they are indifferent to the wrongs.
"Free breakfast" is a joke. It is a couple of pieces of bread with jelly, a couple of
slices of fruit, a glass of orange juice (not freshly squeezed, but watered down), and a cup of coffee. Service is HORRIBLE.
This year, only one of the two elevators worked. The second one worked a handful of times during my 1 month's stay. The WiFi was off and on at any given moment. I would say it is definitely not adequate for anyone who intends to work remotely.
All in all, it was stretching to say this place was worth your money with the old rates. With the newer rates I now see, it is nowhere near worth the money. There are many other places with much more to offer with much better rates.
Just say, "no". At their new asking rates, it is a rip-off. Do your homework and find a better deal.

Good location ,but they keep beach gate locked due to Covid. You have to get an employee to unlock gate to go to beach and walk all the way around the hotel to front street to get back into hotel, inconvenient. First night they put me in room that was like a jail cell, window into dark hell even though I booked city view. I had free breakfast coupons from 8 to 10. I went down one morning at 9:55a and waved at the girl twice. She came over at 10:01 and said I couldn't use coupon any more. I just looked at her and said I waved at you twice and was actually here before 10a. She relented but I felt like I was inconveniencing her. Lots of Mexican families in early morning and on weekends. TONS of kids in pool. Not fun if you want a quiet place to relax. Ignorant Canadians from Nainamo would block chairs every morning when there were limited chairs due to Covid. Many people were yelling at them to not be ignorant. They would put towels before pool was open and one day didn't show up until 3pm. I was embarrassed to be a Canadian with these people. Hotel should not allow it but they do. There are better places that are more quiet with better staff. I would not return to this hotel. A large group of Mexican young adults were partying on beach until early in the morning. The hotel staff opened gate for them at 11pm and they partied on beach yelling and singing.

I am so glad I chose this great little hotel for my short stay for my first visit to Puerto Vallarta! As a solo traveler on a budget, this hotel was perfect, I was able to fall asleep to the sound of the waves right in front of my balcony, it was just a two block walk to the beginning of the Malecon, had a great little pool with drink service and a light continental and breakfast included but more than anything, just wonderful staff that really went above and beyond during my stay!
The beds were comfortable, maybe a bit on the harder side, and the pillows could definitely be replaced with newer ones as they were a bit lumpy, but I loved the full-size refrigerator in the room, the AC was strong, the bathroom had everything you'd need, the room was very clean, and it was very quiet at night to the point where I would just crack open my sliding glass door to the little balcony and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean. The sunsets were just beautiful and I didn't feel the need to go anywhere else to watch sunsets since I had the best view from my balcony. I was in corner room number 250 and highly recommend this room.
The only improvement I would suggest to the hotel is to remove or change the ugly metal fence that separates the property from the public beach since it almost looks like a cage. Rooms on the bottom floor will have a view through this fence so definitely get a room on a higher floor if possible, and definitely pay extra for the oceanfront room. I also recommend booking directly through the hotel site to not only get the best price but also the free breakfast included.

I had mistakenly left my cell phone in an Uber driver's vehicle one night, and both the night and the day staff from the front desk really went out of their way to help me get the phone back, and it eventually was returned the following night thanks to their help!

I also loved this area of Puerto Vallarta and was so glad I stayed here rather than the Zona Romantica or Hotel Zone since right around the corner of the hotel were several excellent restaurants, bars, an Oxxo, grocery store, bus stop, and especially the great street food vendors.

This is a no frills, classic old school Mexican hotel, and an amazing value, and I would definitely return here on my next visit to Puerto Vallarta!

Excellent location, on the beach, near the Malacon, grocery stores, taxis and bus stop
A small family friendly resort with mostly Mexican National families.
Although the double room was on the small size, it served its purpose for just one night. Shampoo and soap available in the shower, air conditioner was fantastic in the humid conditions.

Book this place one a whim just because I liked the location and the price. I’m not a touristy type traveler (American), so I wanted something just a little removed from the resort area. This place fit the bill and turned out to be a really nice find! I got an oceanfront room, and was able to take some AMAZING pictures of the beach from my balcony! Rooms were nice and clean. Staff seemed really friendly and helpful, though I don’t know how much English is spoken there (I speak Spanish myself, so I didn’t really need any English speakers). Location seemed really safe. I even slept with my balcony door open so I could hear the ocean as I slept! I also walked around at night and did some shopping, got tattooed right down the street, etc. and never felt unsafe or out of place. The whole area has little shops and vendors, and if you keep walking south about 15-20 min you can get to the big flea market. So it was really close to everything. There’s also a fairly decent restaurant in the hotel, so I tried it one night (nothing special, but still decent food and well priced). They have a “private beach entrance”, but they told me it closed at like 3 pm. But to get to the beach you literally walk out the hotel door and around the corner, so you don’t have use their entrance. Oh! And they will change currency for you there if you need it and don’t feel like walking somewhere, but their rate is usually a little lower than the bank that’s right down the street. But it is convenient to use them if you just need to change a quick $100 or whatever. All in a all, I couldn’t have asked for better! I will def be back!
