Friendly check-in/check out. We loved it for our two day stay pre Vidanta. Had an ocean view. Firm mattresses. Air conditioning would be considered loud by some but effective and we were happy. Clean. Showers worked well. Beach is not great but that is the case for the downtown beaches.
Provided jug water outside the room areas though PV water is purified.
Friendly breakfast which if free you just want a continental breakfast. A la carte was tasty.
5 min walk from the Malecon. 5 min from the original Barracuda restaurant (better than the Nuevo Vallarta version) or el Solar which is adjacent or Rio Grande which is frequented by Mexicans and super tanned tourists.
We will go there again next years for 3 nights to take advantage of the town pre Vidanta.
This is a simple place. If you are looking for the Hilton, go there and pay the price. If simple is good then this may be for you. Can't beat the location.
We did not expect the Ritz, we knew it was a basic hotel but we also didn’t expect it to be so uncomfortable.
We were in a ‘premium’ ocean view room.
The beds were so hard we literally could not sleep on them. We requested a room change which they denied but in their defence they did a mattress swap with somewhere outside the hotel for slightly more comfortable mattresses.
If the hotel had been renovated it was not the rooms, only the main floor.
In our room the air conditioner only worked if you set it under 10 degrees and was very noisy. The outside could be seen around the edges of the machine as it wasn’t sealed.
In the bathroom the sink had been painted and was peeling.
The tap leaked when you turned it on. There was very little water pressure in the shower and there was mould in the corners.
While we were in the room an employee arrived and sprayed for bugs while we were in the room. Spraying good, while we were present, not so good.
If you don’t go outside at 6 in the morning to mark your chair by the pool forget it, you won’t get one.
All in all, be aware. If you don’t care about your room and just want to be on the ocean and close to the Mallicon fine.
The staff were friendly.
The housekeeping and maintenance staff are both very friendly and helpful, but the front desk staff, not so much.
If you are paying for a place with a pool, forget that....unless, you are willing to be up at 5 am to fight for a spot to put your towel on and claim your spot. They allow guests to "claim" a chair at the beach by virtue of a towel and those people may never even end up using it that day. Most chairs sit empty (other than the presence of a towel) for most of the day while other people are denied the right to a seat. If you bring that up to staff, they are indifferent to the wrongs.
"Free breakfast" is a joke. It is a couple of pieces of bread with jelly, a couple of
slices of fruit, a glass of orange juice (not freshly squeezed, but watered down), and a cup of coffee. Service is HORRIBLE.
This year, only one of the two elevators worked. The second one worked a handful of times during my 1 month's stay. The WiFi was off and on at any given moment. I would say it is definitely not adequate for anyone who intends to work remotely.
All in all, it was stretching to say this place was worth your money with the old rates. With the newer rates I now see, it is nowhere near worth the money. There are many other places with much more to offer with much better rates.
Just say, "no". At their new asking rates, it is a rip-off. Do your homework and find a better deal.
The beds were comfortable, maybe a bit on the harder side, and the pillows could definitely be replaced with newer ones as they were a bit lumpy, but I loved the full-size refrigerator in the room, the AC was strong, the bathroom had everything you'd need, the room was very clean, and it was very quiet at night to the point where I would just crack open my sliding glass door to the little balcony and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean. The sunsets were just beautiful and I didn't feel the need to go anywhere else to watch sunsets since I had the best view from my balcony. I was in corner room number 250 and highly recommend this room.
The only improvement I would suggest to the hotel is to remove or change the ugly metal fence that separates the property from the public beach since it almost looks like a cage. Rooms on the bottom floor will have a view through this fence so definitely get a room on a higher floor if possible, and definitely pay extra for the oceanfront room. I also recommend booking directly through the hotel site to not only get the best price but also the free breakfast included.
I had mistakenly left my cell phone in an Uber driver's vehicle one night, and both the night and the day staff from the front desk really went out of their way to help me get the phone back, and it eventually was returned the following night thanks to their help!
I also loved this area of Puerto Vallarta and was so glad I stayed here rather than the Zona Romantica or Hotel Zone since right around the corner of the hotel were several excellent restaurants, bars, an Oxxo, grocery store, bus stop, and especially the great street food vendors.
This is a no frills, classic old school Mexican hotel, and an amazing value, and I would definitely return here on my next visit to Puerto Vallarta!
A small family friendly resort with mostly Mexican National families.
Although the double room was on the small size, it served its purpose for just one night. Shampoo and soap available in the shower, air conditioner was fantastic in the humid conditions.
