The Westin Resort & Spa in Puerto Vallarta receives a blend of feedback from guests. While the spacious rooms with strong A/C and comfortable beds are appreciated for their views, some design elements have been met with criticism. The pools and gym are standouts amongst the amenities, although additional costs and missing features haven't gone unnoticed.
Service quality varies, with reports of both commendable staff and instances of poor communication. Cleanliness is generally praised, yet there have been occasional concerns. Unfortunately, construction noise and hidden fees have led to dissatisfaction regarding overall value.

Detailed Reviews
Front desk staff is friendly, efficient. Concierge very friendly and helpful. Our room was on 7th floor with balcony, and comfortable, except the bathroom layout is a little weird and it has glass windows looking into the room. Nice view of the resort. Friends on fourth floor complained about parties on Friday and Saturday nights keeping them awake, we could barely hear the festivities. The breakfast buffet had wonderful fresh fruit, omelets to order and a wide variety of other offerings inside and hot dishes like chiliquiles, beans, in large pots outside. The hotel is located at the end of the bus route and the concierge said that the bus can get very crowded, but it's easy to get on in front of hotel. We did not ride the bus. Also, across the street is a convenience store for snacks, beverages and necessities that are less expensive than the hotel store. There is a bar out near the beach where you get a wonderful view of the sunset. The grounds are large with gardens and beach access with lounge chairs and umbrellas you can rent. Early morning it is a very quick cab ride to the airport. Later it takes maybe half an hour. Next ime I will try some place closer to the New City, but we enjoyed this hotel and would happily return again if on a tour.

I spent half a day at the Westin in March 2020 on a day pass as Puerto Vallarta was one of our stops on our cruise. We originally wanted to go to the Marriott next door, but they ran out of day passes, so this was the alternative. Pass was reasonably priced at 800 MXN which included 300 MXN food & beverage credit, and was enough for a hearty lunch and a cold Pacifico beer.
The grounds are very well maintained, and the pool was warm and not very busy. The beach area was kind of small, but it wasn't crowded and we still had our choice of lounge chairs and beds to enjoy the day.
While we were all in the pool playing water volleyball, my wife somehow lost her wedding band and was all panicked. Myself and our whole extended family (16 of us) were scouring the pool looking for it without any luck. Once we notified the grounds staff, one of their employees, a young man by the name of Cristian, changed out of uniform and jumped into the pool to look for it, and he found it! It was such a relief and gratitude that someone found it and gave it back to us. Thank you Cristian for saving our day.
Did not see the actual rooms, but if the rest of the property is any indication, I suspect it is just as nice. Would consider coming back to stay for a longer period.

+1
The Westin Puerto Vallarta was such a welcoming and hospitable place to stay! As a Marriott Bonvoy Titanitum Elite member, I received a courtesy upgrade to a junior suite overlooking the bay. I was thrilled with the free room upgrade perk along with one free day in the cabana by the beach. The incredible views of the bay made for a nice and relaxing writing holiday that was truly inspirational. The accommodations were perfect especially amidst the challenges getting to Mexico this year due to the general circumstances, which made the trip more than worthwhile as a traveler on a holiday from the USA. While I was there, the hotel had no daily resort fee (due to the pandemic), which was nice. That also meant no included paddleboarding activities were available (although there were local merchants offering a range of water activities apart from the hotel such as jetskiing, paddleboarding, fishing, etc.) but the pool and swimming in the bay made for a relaxing and refreshing daily exercise while I enjoyed some fun in the sun for my 10-day trip. The air conditioning unit in my room had a leak, which the service staff came in and fixed right away when I inquired about it. Also, a special thank you to the front desk, who went out of their way to help recover my lost phone, which I had inadvertently misplaced in the hotel taxi while I was out and about downtown one day for a bay cruise. The hotel front desk contacted the taxi driver, who graciously returned my phone in tact. I left a thank you tip, and I also would like to also express my gratitude in this review for their overall top notch service. The hotel restaurant made wonderful fruit breakfast and delicious spicy food. This amazing place is like a little bit of paradise!

Recently stayed at the Westin Resort & Spa in Puerto Vallarta for a five night stay during the Thanksgiving Holiday. My stay was excellent. In order to arrive at the hotel from the airport, I used Uber, which cost about $5 (100 pesos). Travel time from the airport is about 10 minutes. This hotel/resort is located within easy walking distance to the Marina. Although I arrived early, I was able to check in and get an upgrade to an Oceanview room. The staff were all friendly and accommodating. The room, one king, was a nice size, clean, comfortable, and all rooms have a balcony with two chairs and a table and a great view of the pool area and ocean. The maid service was also excellent. This resort has three pools, two of which are more active than the other one, which has a swim up bar. This resort is also located directly on the beach and I opted to lounge on the beach where the ocean temperature was perfect. There are vendors on the beach but not really an issue. A few more items: the hotel was covid ready, employees were masked, plenty of hand sanitizers, limit of 4 people in the elevators at one time, etc.; the hotel has an excellent gym, which was basically the same as a Planet Fitness type gym, plus two tennis courts, mini-soccer goals, basketball hoops, etc.. Finally, the hotel is about a 15 - 20 minute Uber ride (cost between $5 and $7) to the Malecon. I would have no hesitation in staying here again at the Westin Resort and Spa. Excellent stay.

Husband and I spend 7 days here on our second trip to Puerto Vallarta. Our first room (one the 9th floor) had the worst smelling (damp/moldy) pillows. It took a good part of the day, but they were replaced with fresh ones. The (included) breakfast was done well, with staff serving cafeteria style. I believe there is an 'all-inclusive' option, but we did not have it. The pool area is clean, however the pool temperature was quite warm and not very refreshing, unless you were in it at 7 in the morning. (Note this is a very humid time to visit this area of MX).
We took a really fun all day catamaran excursion to Yelapa, where they served a good lunch and drinks. That was thru Grey Lines tours, which you can get right there in the hotel, and well worth the money. On our 5th night, we requested a change in room as there were a number of noisy kids in the room next to us. This was done promptly to our satisfaction. The floor we moved to (5th floor) had a number of pigeons (and their poop) roosting in the hallways. I think the biggest turn-off for us was the fact that every day at happy hour (which is only served at the beach palapa bar) we observed staff collecting used plastic cups (from drinks) and then re-washing them in the sink, stacking them back on the bar and using them to serve more drinks! It would be one thing to do this in the privacy of a kitchen, but they were right there rinsing and stacking in front of all the customers. The hotel performs a covid test (nasal swab).

This Marriott is definitely an older property but the rooms have been renovated and the property is well cared for. I like being away from the crowded areas in in PV. I find them far too crowded with obnoxious Canadian and American tourists looking for cheap food and low brow alcohol. It's an inexpensive Uber ride to visit the crowded zones if you want a night out. The marina area where the Marriott is located has a bunch of little restaurants and bars that are also decent if you like being surrounded by expats (obnoxious ones) and older tourists.
The Marriott had a nice mix of people including some families. The swimming pool is huge and kept at a comfortable temperature. The swimup bar is really nice and also has a patio seating area adjacent to the beach. There is a super cute children's pool but I think it lacked supervision due to the current pandemic. Consequently the kiddos were all in the main pool. I think an adults only pool would have been a good addition when they renovated the pool but perhaps it wasn't feasible. All the children there seems mostly well behaved and supervised by their parents. If the resort were packed I think it might be a different story.
The Marriott offers a diverse food offering and I was very pleased by their higher end tequila selection. They didn't have my favorite tequila the first couple of days but surprisingly it appeared like a miracle! Someone was listening 🥰
The entire staff at this property is beyond wonderful. Shout out to Victor for being the "Best of the Best" at the pool. He was such a lovely person and every recommendation he made was perfection. He remembers every guests name, even on the first day you are there. I was sad to say goodbye to him 😔
The hotel is spotlessly clean. The towels in the rooms are actually decent quality which is not always the case. Bed lines and pillows also immaculate. Views are nice from pretty much everywhere.
PV is so easy to get to and the Marriott is 10 minutes from the airport, making it even more convenient. There are other places I prefer in Mexico but I would come back here again just because it's a nice getaway when time is an issue. The Marriott is worth a visit and right now it is seriously affordable.
Thank you to everyone working there for your kindness!

The stated or posted $158 USD is a lie… I was charged approximately $256 USD per night. I was told it was their taxes and fees. I did not care for or trust the front desk staff after our initial check in. They filled the tiny refrigerator with things they want you to drink so they can charge you even more. Or maybe that was part of the scam to charge more money for my room, I doubt I’ll ever find out There was no room for my own drinks. Bathroom only has one plug-in outlet and no fan. Shutters in bathroom open easily and it has gaps so privacy is lost. The beach access is very minimal and the ocean water is milky brown at that location. If you want cleaner looking ocean water check a satellite view prior to selecting a hotel, as a large area is brown. The pool water was almost too warm to feel refreshing. The bed was okay, but pillows awful. I bought my own pillow. To top it off I woke up with a giant cockroach running around my room. I heard other guests mention they were spraying for bugs in an occupied room on another floor. So floors 5 & 7 clearly have a problem. The trip was so disappointing we left early. The best thing about the hotel, aside from the initial aesthetic appeal, was the Bellman. He was very attentive, kind, and polite. I included a picture from the air of the different brown color of the water from where we stayed versus the blue water.

Six night stay at this resort & it was okay. Pros: take Covid seriously & cleanliness was obvios. Proximity to Marina Vallarta (5-10 min walking) lots of good restaurants, shops & spas. Covid testing on sight (convenient), beautiful ocean view from the room. Breakfast buffet has a great variety & it’s the be meal of the day at this resort. The Pool area is beautifully landscaped.
Cons: restaurants & bars close early (pool bar closes at 5 pm & beach bar at 6 pm, & Lobby bar at 11 pm). Menu selections are limited, no restaurant near or by the Pool, only 1 restaurant open for breakfast & lunch, staff will bring you typical pool food to your pool lounge chair, all staff was cordial not too friendly, check-in with front desk took 30 minutes for 2 rooms with only 2 families ahead of us. We were finally offered water right as we finished checking in. Pool water was warm, felt like bath water. And the beach area is small.

We love the Westin Puerto Vallarta. We have stayed many times, and in February 2019 we stayed 15 nights. Sadly, that will never happen again. We own Vistana timeshares that can be converted to hotel points. When Starwood managed this property, with 5th night free, we could stay for 5600 points per night. Marriott split the points by 3, so we should still be able to stay for 16,800 per night. But Marriott has decided the Westin should cost 35,000 points per night, a doubling of the cost, and cutting our vacation in half. This year we have found an AirBnB, but we'll miss Pedro and the other guys at the front door, the friendly pool staff, and the marvelous view from the rooms. Every morning, we would say to each other, "Another day in paradise!" But corporate greed has pushed us out. Those of us who were longtime Starwood customer are not important to Marriott. I'm still going to rate it 5 stars, because the people who work there are the best.

I stayed here in March 2020. Overall it was a lovely experience. Everything was very clean. The decor created a nice ambience. Very large pools with a separate area for families with children. My husband and I stayed on the other side of the pool which was mostly adults. The beach was ok but nothing to brag about - I believe it’s a manufactured beach that was created specifically for the hotel. The spa was AMAZING. We had the couples massage and it was incredibly relaxing. The drinks and food at the pool bars was amazing. Especially the ceviche and mahi mahi dishes. They also have on site photographer service that offers VERY fair and BEAUTIFUL photos. I can’t stress it enough, whether you’re celebrating a honeymoon or enjoying a family vacation, you really should do a gorgeous and unforgettable photo shoot. The beach shots are incredible. I will upload a photo for you to see the quality. // So why did I give 4 stars and not 5 stars? I did have some concerns. We were under the impression that this hotel advertised special resort packages that we could buy to get discounted foods and drinks. However when we arrived no such package was offered. So we ended up spending quite a bit more that we think was reasonable for food and beverage. Additionally the hotel had advertised special honeymoon services such as a complementary bottle of champagne and a private dinner. However when we showed up they did not provide any of these special perks despite us explaining we were there on our honeymoon and wanted to celebrate in a special and romantic way. // overall 4/5 and I would definitely stay here again. It is extremely lovely and comfortable hotel, for couples or for families.

Yes. But the usual 4 cup maker and only enough for one cup each. We bring our own so we can have more. There is a Starbucks in the lobby.
I'm just now seeing this. I don't know if you've booked your trip or not yet. We have stayed at the Westin many times. It has a smaller footprint than most resorts which is the reason we like it so much. Staff is great, restaurants are comfortable and food is tasty. It is expensive to eat and drink there. They do have all the normal kids meals and the kid's menu is reasonably priced. There is a Bodega across the street to buy snacks and beer/booze for your room.
Enjoy your trip!
Pool is okay, see if the Marriott next door has the same day pass. They are nicer there
