Very simple review this year. We were slightly disappointed with our stay this year. The worst part concerns the beach. My wife and I go to Puerto Vallarta to enjoy the beach, sand and sun. If I wanted to be in a pool, I would stay at home. The beach at this hotel is not that big and can get crowded. This year it was worse. Fewer umbrellas and a lot less space. Half the beach area is wasted because the hotel reserves it for a sunset dinner (costs extra) or their fiesta Mexicana or to put up a volley ball net which is very seldom used. All the beach lounge chairs are lined up about two inches apart and you can hardly move. There is a new manager and a lot of new workers, but it was not as much fun. If you want to enjoy the beach find a different hotel.
Starting with check in. I made reservations 3 months in advance and contacted the hotel with my confirmation number requesting our favorite room. We were promised the room by e-mail, but on arrival were informed that the room was occupied and would have to take another room for three days and then change. Not a good way to start a vacation. If you do not like fish, eat somewhere else especially on Tuesdays, because they only serve fish for dinner. The food was never great, but it was edible. It was not as good this year and they do not have pizza every night like before, maybe once a week. The service in the restaurant at night is very slow and unless you are constantly ordering alcohol, you are ignored. Breakfast service is fabulous. Room cleaning service is slow and of the 25 nights that we stayed, our room was not cleaned before 5P.M. for 15 of these nights and several times we told them not to bother, just give us clean towels. There is a new manager and a lot of new workers, but it was not as much fun.

By no means a 5* resort, it definitely qualifies as a 4*. The staff are extremely friendly and courteous, and always willing to assist. The grounds are well maintained and the rooms, while they can vary depending on location, are generally well kept (although water pressure can fluctuate). I would have liked a spin bike in the gym. 10 minute walk to El Malecon (boardwalk), 20 or so minute drive from the airport, i.e. very central. The food in the buffet restaurant can sometimes surpass that in the two a-la-carte restaurants, but all three are delicious. No ice cream in the buffet restaurant, not sure why. While I can't say enough about friendliness and courteousness of the staff, one person stands out among others, Maria (Sergio) Mesera, our breakfast and lunch waitress, who would go out of her way to serve us, her smile never wavering. Seek her out in the buffet restaurant for breakfast.

Just stayed at the resort and it was a great small hotel. We checked in the original rooms given were ok but had no view we were able to change to rooms on the ground floor with a small patio. The rooms were cleaned and well maintained. They were cleaned everyday but on busy check out days they got cleaned later in the day around 5 which is a little late. The nightly buffets would change and my 1 recommendation would be to have the theme of the night displayed as they did seafood night 1 night next night was oriental so if you do not like what they are serving you can make other options. they had a few nights were the had a Mexican fiesta which was great with lots of good food. The Pools were nice and were warm water which was nice. All the staff were very friendly and took the time to remember what you were drinking and made sure you were looked after. We were always able to get a Loungers as we were out at the pool be 7:30 most days. They do have a policy of not reserving loungers and you could get security to remove items if they are there for longer than an hour with no one showing up to use them. They seemed to be short on umbrellas but I understand they the new Manager had a bunch on order. Loungers around the pool were better then on the beach as you could adjust the backs. Overall a great experience and I would stay again

Another visit to my favorite hotel of many years.
This year the Buenaventura out did themselves by following a very strict protocol during the Covid 19.
Suitcases were sanitized upon arrival and departure, temperatures were taken at the door. Sanitizers were located all over the hotel including the elevators. Rooms were sprayed with sanitizer daily in addition to the regular cleaning. Very impressive.
The entire staff wore masks even while working on the beach in the hot sun. Everyone still walked around with a smile and a kind word.

The management of the Buenaventura Grand is the best it’s been in years under the leadership of Sr. Cesar Soto.

This is the second year we have booked the Buenaventura Grand, the hotel is in a wonderful location to the Malecon and Ole Town. We were greated by Omar and Faustino, wonderful bellman that have been at this hotel for many years. Upon check in we were served cocktails of our choice. Front end staff were very professional, the rooms that we asked for on the main level are clean, a little outdated, but we know that renovations are in the works for this side of the hotel very shortly. The resort has three pools and a child's pool, very accommodating for all, new loungers and more umbrellas will be there soon for any new guests arriving in a few weeks. The pool servers Edwardo, Rudy, Gustavo are exceptional around the pool, always smiling, always taking the time to talk with us, and always remembering what we were drinking. The other staff around the pool, Ezequiel and Francia are great at keeping their guests entertained with many activities. Ezequiel took me out Kyaking and when I felt confident being out on the water by myself, helped guide me out and in safely. The food is fabulous with lots of variety and different theme nights. New this year was beautiful Red and Black dinner on the beach as well as a Mexican Fiesta night. The staff works so hard to ensure the ambiance is top notch. We were able to speak many times with the new Manager Cesar who was constantly on he floor of the hotel speaking with guests and speaking with his staff to ensure the best experience everyday. The staff at this resort works so hard to make your experience here a memorable one. Our daughter nicknamed Ezequiel Bingo Boy and Aqua Man, he was thrilled with his new titles at the resort. The lobby bar servers Fabian and Victor were also great embassadors of the hotel, always smiling, always making you laugh and always remembered your cocktails. Bar tender Carlos also gets a big thumbs up. We cannot forget our servers in the dining rooms, Oscar, Luis, Gustavo, Claudia to name a few. The day the girls went home Luis and Gustavo brought the girls a cake, the plate decorated with have a nice trip, they we're thrilled, also the day we left Ezequiel and Francia brought to the lobby chocolate covered strawberries with the same farewell on the plate. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure your experience here is a great one. You did not disappoint, many thanks, see you next year.

Communication between the person ( maid ) who cleans the room and room service about keeping the bar fridge stocked with soda, cerveza & agua could be improved. I would return to the room after it was cleaned and the bar fridge needed to be restocked so I started writing & leaving notes to the maid.
Many times I found the meat, fish & seafood was over cooked, especially the chicken & beef burgers. They were very dry because they were overcooked.
I would recommend the cooking oil be changed more frequently. The coconut shrimp came out quite brown looking from dirty oil.

This hotel is in a great location if you wish to walk the streets or visit the malecon of Puerto Vallarta. Hotel is not large, staff are wonderful and the property is kept very clean. Food was very good, we had some great meals at the Sunset Restaurant, no complaints with the buffet, it had a good selection but some items could be kept a little hotter. Lobby bar was very comfortable and we found the service good at both the pool and lobby bars.Room was clean (tip of 50 peso/day) and our fridge was restocked daily (tip of 20 peso/day). We felt very safe walking the malecon and streets as well as on the local bus to Walmart and the taxis. Almost all staff were fluent in English, and very friendly, ensuring your needs were met. When we checked in we were given a room without a balcony which did not meet our expectation, however after some discussion David and Fernando were able to meet our request which got our stay off on the right foot. Bell Man Omar was a pleasure to talk to, and answered any questions we had, and I think all of his co-workers at the front appeared helpful and congenial to all. I think the number of longtime and returning guest speak volumes of what this hotel offers. Most others we talked to had been there on 3-20 occasions, and we too hope to return.

My husband and I were at this hotel in May of 2019. By far this is the worst hotel we have ever been to. We are really good tippers and we never give any problems concerning rooms or food etc. The servers and bartenders are really nice and treat you accordingly to your generosity. The bar is not 24 hours, a group of us were sitting and enjoying ourselves by the bar and as soon as 12:00am came they shut the light off on us. Obviously this is good for people who like to sleep early, but everyone that night and every night for the whole week we have been there like to sit and have a good time with some drinks. What disrespect for them to shut the light off like that, no warning just shut it off and left. To top it off I was really sick during my stay at this resort, not only myself but others who were staying the same time with us. This place is infested with cockaroaches and from what I know the chemical of the spray for the pests are around the food. I've been travelling pratically everywhere and never once got as sick as I did from this place. The icing on the cake was our flight was delayed, it was supposed to be in the afterrnoon and it delayed for the night. We asked one of the waiters if we can come back later for dinner and eat before we left, the waiter brought someone who acted asthough he was the manager but instead he organized the excursions for the resort basically he was nothing close to being the manager. He said that they cut the bands off at 12:00pm exactly and we are unable to partake in the resorts accommodations. After all the amazing tipping this is how the resort returns their gratitude. We had to check out at 12:00pm eventhugh our flight was at 10:00pm and we sat in the lobby like beggers. After your time is up at the resort you become non-existent even to the waiters and bartenders, not even an ounce of empathy for us. This resort better not respond to this post, their generic expression is pointless and irreversible. There is nothing that will ever make us come back to this low class and unprofessional resort. My reccomendation is to not go to this resort, if you do go though you will definetly remember what I said.

Food quality poor, and always almost cold! (when meant to be hot). Inferior Mexican house wine with no opportunity to upgrade unless I bought a whole bottle! The food or the wine made me physically sick.

Check in was poor. No explanation of the privileges/benefit or restrictions of the wristbands we were given.

Upgraded (paid) WiFi was problematic often couldn't get logged in and even when did, the signal quality in the room was no better than their free WiFi.

Wouldn't bother going back!

In general I don't have any complaints regarding the hotel facilities and quality. The hotel is a great value for what you pay and considering current travel conditions they pay close attention to sanitary precautions on all fronts. However I do consider they could do more to enforce safe distances in queues

There where a couple of oversights which left me with a bad impression at the end of our stay. First I had asked for the room to be prepped with wine and strawberries for when we arrived, which never happened. Once I let them know they tried to make it up on our last night, however they left nothing to open the bottle with and told us no one could come to our room to help so we were left having to take the bottle down to the bar ourselves and having them open it there. There is definitely some lack of attention to detail that could be improved to make this a great option.

Buffets do not require reservations. There are 2 evening restaurants that do require reservations.
