Hotel Tropicana Vallarta

Hotel Tropicana Vallarta

The room wasn't horrible, until we saw the curtains, realized there is no coffee maker or fridge, and no room service....and on top of all of this, the main compressor for the entire hotel is immediatly outside our hotel. They also wake you up at 8:30 am to ask if you want to clean. Serious...

Hotel Tropicana Vallarta's beachfront location is a highlight for guests who also frequently commend the hotel's overall cleanliness, from the spotless rooms to the well-kept grounds. Despite the praise for its prime positioning and tidiness, the hotel's amenities and rooms are often described as outdated, with particular dissatisfaction directed at the uncomfortable loungers and the absence of modern conveniences like in-room fridges and dependable Wi-Fi. Opinions on the service and value offered are polarized; some visitors enjoy the friendly staff and reasonable cabana rates, while others are frustrated by unexpected charges and indifferent front desk interactions.

Liked: Hotel Tropicana is in an excellent location in the Zona Romantica. Located right on the beach and a short walk to the center of town or the Malecon. And there in an Oxxo store to buy food or snacks less than a block away For anywhere that might be a little farther, Ubers are available and it is a short walk to the bus stops. Never a problem getting a lounge at the pool or on the beach, and the bar service was excellent.

Disliked · The hotel is a bit dated and could use some updating. While I was there, one of the two elevators was being renovated and the constant noise from the workers was a little annoying. Not having WiFi available in the rooms is just not acceptable these days. It also caused the lobby to always be packed with people trying to use it. Be sure to change money elsewhere because the exchange rate that the hotel offers borders on criminal. They also need to make the process of being able to charge food and drinks to your room a little less complicated.

Good and bad stay

Liked · Location was awesome
Many dining options close by
Front desk workers were awesome
Food at the restaurant was pretty good and a fair value.
Facilities were ok, need upgrading
Concierge services were good
Grounds were clean

Disliked · Bed was super hard not comfortable
No ice machines
Water (Hot /Cold) in the shower would fluctuate from very hot to very cold
We were told by the front desk staff we could have all of the ice we wanted just let them know at the bar.
This was not the case.
Humberto in the bar was rude (Only would allow one small pitcher of ice at a time)
We had cold drinks in our room and wanted to keep them on ice as the rooms had no refrigerators. Humberto said the rules were one very tiny pitcher only.
When I let him know, the front desk said we could have all the ice we wanted he said no very rudely and said i could talk to the manager.
We ended up buying our own ice daily in a nearby market.
On a positive note, we dined in the bar restaurant and received great service from Humberto.
Overall, we had a great time enjoying Puerto Vallarta but would look elsewhere for accommodations on our next visit.

Stayed for first time at Hotel Tropicana. It was fine. I’d likely still pay a bit more for at a nearby hotel for reliable wifi and a fridge in the room (we booked late so others in this price range were no longer available), but the premium room had great space, comfortable beds and a balcony! Water pressure and bathroom also good.
The hotel staff was nice. The pool was busy, all chairs and loungers taken by 9:30am (opens at 9am). Lots of older folks hanging around waiting to grab seats or put towels on the to "save" them. Beach opens at 8am and you can get an umbrella or shade area with sling back chairs-the chairs are not comfortable. You have to wear wrist bands all around hotel. I had a friend stop by to say hi on beach and hotel chair guy wanted 50 pesos for my friend to hang out and talk to me. It’s not the money but the reasoning-pretty silly. Friend sat on a towel vs. a chair for a bit and then left.
Restaurant is bad. The sausage with our breakfast was a bad hotdog cut in half. Seriously. But there a tons of great food options nearby.

First time at this hotel and we had a blast. Great location south of the pier with lots on beach access. Plenty of chairs and umbrellas even at 9 am. Pool chairs were harder to secure but still doable. Bar staff were rude multiple days. Wouldn’t even give us ice for cup. Everybody else we encountered were nice and friendly. Got a perfect room on the 6th floor with a great balcony (and we used booking.com). Shower great but water did get out into hallway. Biggest issue is no fridge or ice but we found a styrofoam cooler the 2nd day so it was all good.

Never book with Expedia if you want an ocean side view because you will never get it, you also will never get air conditioning. Rooms without a view have windows that open into the hallway which someone is able to enter your room when you are not there. There is no wifi in the rooms you have to go to the main lobby. The hotel is doing renovations but is not up to par compared with other restaurants. I have always gone here however the lack of service will make it time to move along. Breakfast is under basic, no lunch or dinner available, unless you want a sandwich. There are several restaurants available outside the hotel which are great to have the Mexican atmosphere The staff are good but only following managers orders.

So. The hotel site had said in Nov. 2019 the room I booked had Air conditioning. Got there feb. 6th and was given room 208. right next to the boiler room humming up and down. seen the room had no air and went down to the front counter. Front counter person said I could pay $200 more if I wanted a room with AIR!!! I stayed cool, asked for the hotel manager, sorry he's not in today. I finally got moved to room 308 after 3 days of fighting. I should have got louder a lot sooner. But 308 sucked as it was a double single room, and still no air. Worse they way the hotel is layed out there is hallways on either side of the room. The hallway lights lit the room almost as well as the room lights. I rigged up my shirt the closet door to block some of the light. After the 4th day I gave up, the management didn't care about dealing with me and the room issue.
The only good think was the location, but for what I dealt with, it wasn't worth it.
Important lesson learned. I will book thru a respected web site so if there issues I hope I can get help dealing with a problem hotels..

I only needed one night in Puerto Vallarta so didn't want to spend a lot of money. I found a 'deal' on line: one night at the Tropicana, including an American breakfast, for about $79.00 US plus taxes and fees. The room was interior, between two corridors, very basic with no A/C and the ceiling fan was woefully inadequate to provide any air circulation. The American breakfast consisted of fruit, juice and dry cereal - the buffet breakfast was off limits with a 'budget' room. Wi-fi was only available in the lobby and the restaurant and even there it was not reliable. If you are going to stay at the Tropicana spend the extra dollars to get an ocean view with A/C.

This type of excellent services can not be unknown or untold. All the staff at the hotel were so polite and helpful making my stay not only welcoming and safe but continually catering to my requests like a 5 star hotel. I loved the ongoing attention to detail and cleanliness of the rooms and property and the safe environment that was a priority in and near the Tropicana Hotel. Especially many thanks to Noemi and Manuel, whom never stopped helping out with my ongoing needs for things to do and see along the magnificent Malecon. Thanks so much, muchas gracias!! See you soon, Warm hugs and best wishes, Geoff

Noisy is an understatement! Very minimal convenient in house accommodations. Extreme Rock Hard beds, teeny tiny shower, VERY OLD stained bathroom sink.
Plus side, pool area and beach are nice, walking distance to a large variety of entertainment and restaurants. That’s about it. Only One room key per room - many days pool towels were not available until after 11:00am and most of the pool chairs have seen better days. I would not stay here again.
Much better options out there for the money. 2 stars is being generous. But one star given for its location And a cool mural

Steer clear, you can get a much better experience for the money. We booked a king bed through Orbitz and when we arrived all king rooms were booked - no sorry, no understanding in the customer service, no compensation of any kind at all. We got put in a room with two double beds that could not be moved together.. the opposite of the king room we specifically paid for. The double beds were hard as a rock too, with pillows that completely flattened under your head. They said that booking through third parties like Orbitz doesn't guarantee the room type and offered to move us halfway through our stay. Other disappointing experiences: The wifi did not work anywhere in the hotel, not down in the lobby or by the pool and not in the rooms. The water pressure in the shower was terrible. The shower had mold along the corners and edges. There was stray hair in the bathroom and room. The light in our first room was flickering for a few minutes before turning on. One of the elevators had the button for our floor broken the entire time. The bar between the pool and beach was closed the entire time with what looked like miscellaneous furniture storage in it. The front facade of the hotel was under construction. All in all, it's a very convenient location but the accommodation, amenities, and service were all poor and the place felt dumpy. Take your money elsewhere.

Hi....we've stayed at The Tropicana many times....the 1st time we booked with breakfast but it was so awful (small buffet) we never did so again. BUT that being said the restaurant they'd served it in is no longer open & I BELIEVE it is table service & I'm sure it is fine. The restaurant is always busy in the morning so that says something!

We have stayed at The Tropicana many times. I can't answer this question specifically but I do know that Junior Suites can be difficult to get. Many are pre booked well in advance by Mexican families who come to the beach on holiday. Depending on how you are booking I can attest to the fact that staff will do their best to accommodate requests upon check in BUT they have ZERO tolerance for rude/demanding behaviour. Many people on here complain about rude staff. Guests definitely get what they give at The Tropicana.

We have stayed at Tropicana MANY times & we always bring our own drinks to the pool and beach. The service is slow & prices are high. We go to the grocery store right across the street & buy a styrofoam cooler and our beer, wine, alcohol & mix. Each morning we pick up a bag of ice.l for the cooler. We prefer to mix our own drinks in our Yeti mugs/bring our beers down. Alot of people do this. We're also able to enjoy drinks in our ocean facing room this way as there are no fridges in these rooms and no ice machine at The Tropicana.
