We arrived at Fairlawns when the covid19 travel ban was announced. While our travel agent scrambled to find flights for us to return home the staff at Fairlawns were exceptionally helpful and supportive. Our plans changed and shifted almost daily for 4 days and they were able to accomodate our unknown departure and made us feel safe and at home.
We will certainly return once travel resumes, recommend this Hotel with top ratings!

We stayed over for two nights on our way to visit a couple of safari camps. We stayed in room 16 which had 1 and 1/2 baths with a walk in shower and jacuzzi soaking tub. The room had a dining table, a desk and a couch. The staff was very courteous and the dining room meals were good. The room had a private balcony overlooking the pool and garden areas. We spent time at the spa and Moso gave an incredible massage and the spa grounds were very special with many tucked away private treatment rooms. There are also complimentary areas available to hotel guest who do not seek a spa treatment. This boutique hotel is outside of the city and feels like a secret retreat. We would definitely recommend this resort just 30 min away from the airport for any of your stay over needs.

We hosted a lunch for my daughter’s civil signing celebration and the Fairlawn’s Staff extraordinarily exceeded our every expectation. They were friendly, efficient, and exemplary of what a 5* experience usually is.

The food was particularly brilliant, every single guest absolutely loved their meals with every single offering providing a welcomed burst of flavour and satisfied faces. The pricing was a welcomed surprise as everything was fairly priced and portioned. Our room was upgraded due to the hotel currently being under renovations - another welcomed surprise that put a cherry on top for the experience. We will certainly be returning for the sumptuous oxtail, poke bowl, steak, arancini and and and!

Well done to the entire team and we are wishing you great success in your business! Thank you for making my daughter and son’s first day as a Mr&Mrs under unusual Covid-19 circumstances so special!

What was supposed to be a lovely New Year’s Eve night turned into an awful night.
We had booked our 3 course meal tickets as well as booked to stay the evening as one wouldn’t want to drive after having imbibed throughout a 3 course meal.

The service at the restaurant was truly disappointing for a 5 star establishment. Untrained staff, wanting to clear my plate while I was still eating (the starter) and knife and fork indicating that I was indeed still busy - this happened 3 times. My partner’s plate was cleared while I was still eating (not something that should occur at a silver service restaurant. The pouring of rare French wine was verg untrained as well, pouring half a glass of Puligny Montrachet whe one wants to savor it, was a bit unfortunate. As I finally finished my starter, indicated by the placement of my knife and fork, the plate was taken and immediately thereafter our mains were placed down in front of us. We had to ask for them to please keep our food as we would like at least a 20 minute break between our starters and mains. We couldn’t understand what the rush was.

For a New Year’s Eve event having run out of champagne at 7PM and only having Rose on offer is perplexing.

We took our own bottle of French wine along for dinner, happy to pay the corkage on one bottle and then planned to order the only other French wine on the menu. In making the payment and booking for the dinner I had mentioned that we would bring a Chardonnay that isn’t on the menu. I believe this would have been the ideal time to notify us that the Chablis was not available and that if we wanted perhaps another bottle of French wine we should consider bringing a second bottle along.

When we mentioned this to our server, and as well as mentioning that we do indeed have another bottle at home, she suggested that the hotel could arrange a driver for us to quickly go collect a bottle from home. As it was still a little while before midnight, and no Brut champagne, we thought it a fair idea.

After a lengthy wait we thought to go and check on the status of the offer as time was becoming precarious for us to be able to be back and bring in the new year with the celebrations at the hotel.

We went to the hotel front desk, the apparent night manager did not greet us, did not apologise for the inconvenience, did not make any pleasantries at all, instead simply said: we don’t have a driver for you, you have to get an Uber.

His demeanor is what is beyond shocking. Given that it was so late on New Year’s Eve and getting an Uber would have taken ages as it’s naturally the busiest night it the year. The exchange that ensued was appalling. He was rude, demeaning and confrontational. As a result of his treatment of us we decided not to stay, cancelled our room, had to go pack up and drive home after having had wine.

Never in our experience at 5 star establishments have we received such shocking treatment.

He handled it so badly, clearly the term “hospitality business” entirely lost on him.

It remains to be seen if our credit cards have been credited.

We will never return and we will not recommend.

Hotel is beautiful. Rooms are lovely but the service was terrible. Booked and paid for our room in advance, requested a baby cot and it’s only when we checked in at 9pm that they made arrangements to bring a cot in the room. The next day we left the room at 2pm and came back at 7pm and room hadn’t been cleaned. This was very upsetting as we had a little baby that we had to put to sleep and the hotel staff was now cleaning the room at night. We were told to inform them next time when we were leaving so that they come and clean 👀 The majority of the staff are not friendly at all. Only one lady, Nozipho was absolutely a doll and a tall coloured guy, never got him name. All in all we didn’t enjoy the stay for the money we paid. If you value service as part of the experience when on holiday I definitely would not suggest this hotel

Delicious lunch. Badly served. From dirty lipstick stained glasses for wine. Sushi salad served with balsamic vinegar and olive oil instead of soya sauce. Long periods of time before a waiter could be attracted to our table. Knife lying near another table with numerous waiters just walking past. We were told that the wine which we didn’t finish would be at reception waiting for us, wasn’t there. Reception had to hunt around to locate it. Wonderful Maitre d’ and the Chef produced lovely food which was spoiled by poor service.

We booked a much anticipated bridesmaids high tea at fairlawns this last weekend. We arrived at 1pm and after having being ignored repeatedly, we eventually got served at 1.20pm. The service was shocking to say the least, waiting 15 minutes a time for a drink to arrive. As this was a special occasion we wanted to make it special, we ordered a bottle of champagne and when ordering a second bottle, we were told its been sold out. After trying to chose various wines/ champagne thereafter 90% of the menu was sold out. As this event was booked and paid for at least 2 months in advance it was unfortunately a huge disappointment. Not the service you expect from a botique hotel and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I’ve rated the stay here a 2/5 because I really felt that at the hefty price per night charged by the hotel, the service were facilities were below par. My husband and I booked in for the night after what had a hard work week for a spa and overnight stay at their normal prices not specials.

The room called a Chateaux Suite (room 34), was not well appointed. The TV did not work at all and when they eventually managed to get it work, there was no audio and then we realised that the room has a compact Dstv package. Which is absolutely shocking for a 5star boutique hotel. I called reception to get someone to come fix the tv and also send a bottle of wine. Wine arrived 30min later, the wrong bottle and the receptionist who took my order was so defensive abt it and hung up the phone on me 😂. Then the aircon didn’t work, was stuck on 30 degrees the whole night.

The spa and restaurant in the hotel are world class though. And as usual the food was amazing and my treatments were amazing.

The hotel went so much down, its just depressing. Dirty dusty carpets with the stuff still laying around. Thin bathrobes like we are in the middle of the summer. No 24/7 room service and when I requested 2 bottles of water at 11 pm, been advised to drink water from a tap. Whaoh, just shocking. Food quality went downscale drastically as well after the covid. Spa is still holding onto the good level

Unfortunately we had a shocking experience at Fairlawns at their restaurant. I sent a complaint by email and they did not even bother replying.

The only thing enjoyable was the actual food, the booking in process and restaurant were not great and the service was terrible - the price and promise of such a high level are not worth the amount they charge.

I was very disappointed and will not return.

Fairlawns is a wonderful place to stay! We arrived there after a long flight from Atlanta. Dinner was excellent, very reasonably priced, and the restaurant staff were wonderful. We dressed business casual, slacks and sports coat, nice dress, dress shoes. Breakfast is included in the room rate. We arranged for transport to and from the airport through Fairlawns. Re clothes, Federal Air provides free luggage storage for those on safari, so we stored our two larger bags with traveling and dress clothes at the Federal Air terminal, and traveled to our safari camps with two smaller bags. Took us about 15 minutes to repack on our return to the Federal Air terminal. Take lots of photos and videos! Have a wonderful time! We did.
