We had been to a couple of camps before and some since, so we might be accused of being picky. But luxury camps are expensive, so I think that small details can be discused. The staff are attentive to the point of being claustrophobic. It seemed a bit silly for 4 or more staff to be waving you in from every drive. What should have been a wonderful private dining experience on the platform in front of our tent with multiple candles, lanterns, choices of drink and delicious food (we were the the only ones in camp) was marred by the constant hovering of the " waiter".
Though there was lots hot water, the showers (both inside and outside) were almost impossible to regulate.
Our guide Glen was superb and relentless in trying to track down animals, but despite finding 2 leopards, the animals were few and far between compared to Samburu or Masai Mara in Kenya or Chobe in Botswana.

Hi Harry, Thanks for another review of one of our camps! I'm sorry you felt our staff were too attentive, however I do hope you received everything you needing during your stay with us :) The leopard sighting is a superb sighting during the green season as there is usually lots of foliage for the animals to hide away in! I'm sure you were thrilled with the find! Thank you for choosing Machaba Safaris for your Botswana safari getaway.

We spent 3 nights at Little Machaba in September 2020. We booked the whole camp for our family and we drove to camp ourselves from Maun. We are from Botswana and wanted to support local establishments during the border closure. The camp was just amazing! Everything we could have hoped for and more!

Our guides for the group BT and BD were very knowledgeable, great with the kids and took time to explain even the smallest things to the kids. We appreciated their love of the bush and the attentiveness. The camp managers Fiskani and OT were great and the service was excellent. Both camp managers on a few occasions went out of their way and entertained the kids with a board game. It was lovely of them! Shato the waiter was very attentive and friendly.. always smiling. Dumisani the Chef was very accommodating as one of the group members is gluten intolerant and he made her amazing special dishes. Dumisani ensured she had what everyone else had, just gluten free which was lovely! All of the food was delicious and they catered for the children as well. This was very much appreciated!

The tents were beautiful, clean and spacious! All the rooms had great views and we saw elephant and buffalo every day in front of camp. The housekeepers Matshelo and GG were very sweet and they kept the rooms clean and neat. Some of us had massages at our tents the one afternoon and this was a relaxing treat!

We saw loads of animals... Leopards, Lions, Hyena, Elephant and Wild Dogs to name only a few. Our guides were the best!

We had a great time and we hope to go back one day! Perfect camp for families wanting some privacy and with children.

A very well laid out camp in the wilderness, tents were extremely clean and comfortable and safe. Our family felt pampered and cared for by all the staff and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our professional guide, Albert was exemplary in all aspects of the wilderness, every game drive was unique and we saw a wide variety of species of birds and animals in large numbers.

We spent 3 nights at the Machaba camp from September 1st to September 4th 2021, and it was an amazing experience ! We were impressed by the warm welcome and the friendliness of the whole team. The rooms were spatious and comfortable with H24 power supply and hot water. The meals were delicious as well as generous, and we could enjoy our meals from a beautiful terrasse with direct view on the elephants feeding in the khwai river.
We were exceptionally fortunate to have Shaun Malan in person as our private guide, and what a friendly guide! With a perfect knowledge of the wildlife and the region, as well as a huge talent for photography. What happiness!
The highlight of our stay was chasing a pack of 16 wild dogs at sunset. An unforgettable memory and a dream that has come true.
We can recommend without hesitation this camp to anyone who is looking for an exclusive experience of the Okavango Delta.

My family of 3 just returned from our African adventure. Of the 5 places we stayed, this was our favorite. We shared a beautiful family tent, on the ground, that had all the amenities you could think of - indoor and outdoor showers, a living room, lounge chairs on the patio, comfortable beds, and hot water bottles when you crawl in. The animal noises at night were heavenly. We even had an elephant right outside our tent one afternoon. The lodge is small which means you receive a much more personal experience. We ate at a long table with other guests, and returned from an evening drive one evening to a remote barbecue they had set up for everyone. It was incredible. They also put coals under your seats at dinner so you are warm! Have never been treated so well. They thought of everything. We can’t thank you enough Elka, Christian, all the staff, and especially Oracle, our guide. He was our favorite guide amongst all the guides we had on our trip. We have already talked of coming back to this most beautiful and special place. As for the animals, we saw a lot, but most special was an evening find of about 7 lions together with a cub, and we also a failed wild dog hunt on an impala. The crocodiles got the impala in the end. Because this is a private reserve, we were able to stay out at dark with a spotlight for a different look where we saw hippo out of the water and a hyena. I could go on and on. This place is magical. Thank you all for the memories and taking such good care of us.

Good location; very helpful and courteous staff. Albert, the guide/tracker, was knowledgeable and diligent. The food, however, left everything to be desired. The service timing is most unsatisfactory. Morning Tea/coffee at 6 is accompanied by bread/cake hardly edible at that hour. No breakfast but lunch at 11:30. Not a convivial hour nor is the food palatable. 3 course dinner @ 8 but the soup is a mushy paste and the main course is more of a dessert. The daily diet has only survival value

This was our first safari experience and we can not express what a high standard the Machaba Camp has set in place. From the pick up at the airstrip until drop off this was an incredible luxury experience, surreal and spectacular. The entire staff the game drives, the food and exceptional service from each and every staff member.
Lucky to have had Glen as our guide and his knowledge, experience and demeanor was incredible. Getting up early was a joy and a thrill seeing the wildlife can not be captured in the millions of photos taken. The afternoon drives were also embraced by a sunset stop for drinks and snacks which made this even so more amazing.
The tents were spacious, extremely clean and comfortable. The beds were so comfortable you wanted to stay in it and enjoy the sounds of nature as long ass you can. Traveling often we have a hard time first two nights adjusting to a bed, but here that was not an issue, remarkable as this was a large tent.
A true safari experience where the elephants approached steps away and interrupted an amazing massage from Gobitza a camp manager and masseuse.
The meals were tasty, healthy and accomodated my tomato allergies. Dinners were extreme joy as we dined outdoors family style and got a chance to meet the other visitors and hear their wild finds on drives as well as share travel experiences, and they, just as we, loved this place.
We are hooked and can not wait to come back and visit soon.
Highly recommend this Safari Camp.

Give this a pass.
Food is inedible
10-12 safari Camp and private vehicles at every animal sighting…feels like being in a drive by zoo
There are much better places.
A huge disappointment.
Although Sean is very passionate about the animals, and tries really hard to please his guests, it’s just too crowded now that all the private concessions are allowed in the Park .

Dear Hiltonhead123 Thank you for your review, we recall receiving your feedback from your agent and trust they passed our response on to you. We take all feedback seriously and have discussed all the details with our owners and camp manager. On game drives our guides do their best to manage sightings as professionally as possible but being in a shared concession does mean we have to share sightings. We are however pleased that Shaun’s passion for the Delta was appreciated, and we hope that you will return to stay at one of our Machaba Safaris camps in a private concession in the near future.

My wife, granddaughter and I were excited to get to the delta and Little Machaba was all we hoped it would be. The tents were large and well-appointed for being out in the bush, the community tent was serene and an enjoyable place to talk/eat with other guests and the overall atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Chief was an excellent host. His kind demeanor and sense of humor made us all feel comfortable. His attendance at our dinners was a wonderful addition, sharing stories and points of view germane to the conversations while seamlessly fitting in to the group. His stewardship of the camp was much appreciated. BT, our guide/tracker extraordinaire made our game drives both exciting and informational, finding leopards, lions and all the fauna we hoped to see. We had an exciting mokoro ride, having to steer clear of a hippo and watching about fifty elephants forge the river with calves in tow...literally...hanging on to their mom's tails. The food was exceptional, with the outdoor fireside dinner being the piece de resistance. All of the staff made our stay at Little Machaba full of memories we'll hold close for years to come.

Absolutely fantastic experience!
Machaba camp is ran by a family and this is reflected in the whole atmosphere. The management and staff go above and beyond to make one feel welcome and at home. The service is impeccable and the guides are extremely knowledgeable. When you're not enjoying the fantastic meals and service in the camps, you're being guided to amazing wildlife sightings while being provided with in depth knowledge about the environment. The activities include walking safaris, boat (and mokoro) rides and even helicopter flights. A true 5 star experience in a place that isn't intrusive to it's surroundings. HIGHLY recommended

Trust me, I’m a city girl who never goes out without make up, proper hairdo, business attire...but the moment I set foot on African soil I leave all that behind. I do without make up and blow dry (not a pretty sight but hey, we’re all in it together) and wear only safari clothes. You don’t need a lot of clothes because the staff in the camps do a decent laundry (all except underwear) in no time. Did not see any snakes ! Lot’s of mosquito’s, yes, so spray yourself down regularly and keep your tent closed. You’re in for the time of your life, don’t worry, and you will discover a new persona in yourself....Enjoy ! Hi Mike B, We spent 4 nights at Machaba last August - we only did the game drives (which by the way were fantastic), so I can't comment on the walking safari or mokoro ride. But I can tell you that mokoro rides are not done on the river at camp (too narrow and too many hippos), so there will undoubtedly be some travel involved to get to where the boats are. As for the pros/cons of a private vehicle - if it's within the budget, a private vehicle is definitely the way to go. There's no pressure on you to move off a sighting that perhaps only you would be interested in. And just having the flexibility of doing what you want to do on a drive, including what time you leave on the drive. Either way - you're in for a great time - enjoy!

Answer from Laisa B
Brisbane, Australia7 contributions1 helpful vote
Hi Margaret L. I know this was asked about a year ago, but just in case someone else comes along with a CPAP machine, I can tell them that in our small group, two of us had CPAP machines. The crew at both camps we stayed at were able to acquire a small portable adapter so that we could plug our machines on them. Even though we failed to let them know in advance, they were able to borrow from other camps I think. They went out of their way to help us.

No air conditioning. The tents there are canvas and you get a good breeze coming through the screen. The dining room and lobby area are all open air on both sides. We had no problem with it - actually it was pretty cool in the mornings but that was in September.
