Mas de la Costa is situated in the heart of the Matarrana region, in south eastern Aragon, bordering Catalonia. The hotel lies some 5 km from Valderrobres, a charming medieval village with narrow cobbled streets. The Renaissance architecture of the town hall and square add to its charm. The hotel itself lies on a 23ha plot of land, surrounded by olive and almond groves and overlooks the pine covered mountains of the Puertos de Beceite (nature reserve). The hotel offers: - Spacious bedrooms, tastily furnished and decorated. - A gourmet restaurant, serving a daily changing menu of fresh, seasonal foods. - A library filled with books and (mostly French) comics. - Sitting areas with comfortable sofas and cosy fireplaces to unwind and relax. - A cinema room. - A small spa with sauna and Turkish bath. - Magnificent views from every window. - An outdoor swimming pool. - Various terraces and gardens to enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of our natural surroundings.

Detailed Reviews
We were lucky enough to fall upon this gorgeous hotel soon after it had opened, a few years ago, and have since returned countless times. We are continuously marvelled by the care of all the details, from the decoration to the cuisine, to the bedding and the service. Every dinner is accompanied by candles, fireplaces and soothing music, every breakfast is a feast. The surroundings are stunning, allowing one to simply walk in every direction to enjoy incredible views of the Caixa and other mountains. The weather is unbelievably good and the region is full with Medieval towns with NO tourists. For those who love to drive, there are fantastic roads, with just enough curves (and little traffic) to keep any enthusiast happy. If you are a road biker, these roads are a dream. And for mountain bikers, there are lots of paths and gravel roads through beautiful landscape. I would recommend the region to everyone and especially, to take advantage of the Mas de la Costa for an ideal stay.

I have never visited a place like this. It is what so many other places try to be and it seems to do it with no effort at all. If you are ever looking for the perfect romantic get away this is it. It looks and feels like something out of Tuscany Italy in the 20's. The owners did an incredible job restoring this property, that was built in 1804. Literally before Napoleon invaded Spain. You cant build something like this today, The charm is ever where you look and the staff even more so. If you plan a trip or find yourself near this location I highly recommend trying to bok here for the once in a live time experience.

Fantastic hotel in a quiet location off the beaten track in a beautiful part of Spain.
The staff were very helpful and the food was excellent.
We saw a few of the rooms and they were all top quality.
The common areas were all designed and fitted to an exceptional standard and we had a lovely chat with the owner. We would return in a heartbeat!

Outstanding property in a truly stunning location. Beautifully presented and imaginatively furnished by proud owners Christian and Francoise, who are a reassuring and visible presence. Food has a distinctly Gallic influence, but uses local produce, with limited but excellent choice on a daily changed table d'hƓte.
There are many amazing and challenging walks in the area - including several from the front door of the hotel. Christian kindly assisted in suggesting routes and translating directions from Spanish to English. Hope we return one day !

Magic!
A completely restored building, restorated with love and passion to a level that gave us and ultimate 5 days stay mid october 2022. With only 15 rooms it almost felt like we were alone. Nice quiet surroundings with a beautiful garden and spectacular view, we had a very quiet and relaxing time.
The restaurant serves fine dining with high quality. With 2 fireplaces, one in the restaurant and one in the lounge, honest bar (self service) and no TV, it was relax in heaven.
Thank you very much to the owners Francois and Christian, but also to Fernando, both chefs and all personell for a magic few days. Every little details was taken care of.
We will for sure come back and we will for sure bring our friends. With more then 60-70 nights in a hotel/resort this year, this is one of the very few we can truly recommend.
You will all forever be in our hearts, we just love the place and the people working in this wonderful place.

The perfect choice of hotel to chill out with your partner.
It's luxurious, well decorated, and surrounded by pretty gardens. Well located, within a few miles of the best medieval villages in the area, and the Pesquera and Parrizal nature reserves. The staff were very courteous and attended to every need. We stayed in the Lorca suite; very spacious and comfortable.

From the moment you arrive you cannot help but be impressed by the hotel, its setting and the wonderful scenery. The location is in itself stunning with the views of the surrounding mountains, the greenery, the beautifully tended almond groves and other farmland areas and the carefully sculpted and tended gardens around the hotel. The original buildings have been carefully and lovingly renovated and additional areas sympathetically added to create the hotel. The thoughtful attention to detail makes this hotel stand out and allows guests to indulge in a luxurious environment where nothing is too much effort for the wonderful staff. All this is matched by a wonderful kitchen. We had sumptuous breakfasts with much local produce, fresh breads and pastries. Once on the terrace outside the restaurant and then in the kitchen. The excellent dinners, served in the restaurant, were beautifully prepared. The lounge, the TV room and the library offered a choice of places to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of the hotel and surrounding countryside. Well done Christian and your team. We will be back.

We absolutely love this hotel. From the amazing staff (Raquel, William, Christine, the owners Christian and his wife Francoise - everyone!) to the beautiful surroundings and attention to detail throughout the hotel - it's one of our favourite places we've been to.
The pool is quiet and beautiful and the gardens are stunning - don't forget to eat the fresh strawberries growing everywhere!
Our room (Lorca suite) had amazing views and was very spacious.
And the food and service was impeccable - honestly we haven't met such welcoming and helpful people for a long time. Plus there are beautiful walks in the mountain countryside and fresh water swimming lagoons - paradise!
We couldn't recommend it highly enough.

After a (too) short stay at Mas de la Costa we can report on a very special place where culture meets nature in the most pleasing way. A beautifully restored farm building set among olive and almond groves, surrounded by mountains, very comfortable rooms with all amenities, a generous, sunset exposed, swimmingpool, make a perfect place for resting, hiking, honey-mooning or studying.
The food is exceptional, combining the home-made (bio) natural quality with the refinement of creative recipes. The wine list is solid, the service cordial and efficient. The top is the breakfast table, overflowing with home- made jams and marmalades, cured ham and speck, exquisit local cheese, eggs and fruit galore. Conclusion: a wonderful place with one only caveat: you must endure a couple of miles on a dusty road to reach it.

I recently paid a 5th visit to Mas de la Costa in Valderrobres. Itās becoming a bit like a second home in Spain for me now. On the outskirts of Valderrobres in Aragon, a region that is not heavily visited but is stunning (described as Spainās Tuscany), itās rugged, hilly with vast groves of olives and almonds. Thereās plenty to see and do, great walking and cycling region too. The Mas itself is beautiful. I find it incredibly relaxing to be there and sleep better than I do at home while Iām there. All the creature comforts you could wish for, set in a stunning backdrop, surround by olive trees and with uninterrupted views of the hills and mountains surrounding it. If you are looking for peace, relaxation, great food and understated luxury, this is somewhere you should head for. Iāve been reluctant to review it before as I donāt want it to get so popular that I canāt get a room there when I want!! However, Christian and Francoise and all the team there deserve every success, so visit and experience it. Finally, the staff are amazing - friendly, welcoming, quietly efficient, anticipating your needs but not fussy and intrusive. They, and the setting in Spainās Tuscan hills are the real delight.

Lynnpatricia asked a question Apr 2019
Bishops Stortford, United Kingdom207 contributions195 helpful voteswe would like to stay in July. Are your bedrooms air conditioned?
Thank you
Dear Sir/Madam,
Our hotel has no air conditioning, but...
We generate our own electricity with some 100 solar panels. We are not on the utility grid. Air conditioning would require too much of a load.
We do cool our rooms by circulating cold water through our radiant floor "heating" pipes. This helps reduce the temperature by a few degrees and provides a sensation of coolness. It is not air conditioning, tough, and cannot reduce the temperature to 17Ā°C for instance.
As we are located at an altitude of 600m, our nights are cool and dry, around 18-22Ā°C in the summer. Hardly any humidity. As a result, we recommend leaving windows and curtains closed during the day, and opening windows at night. (We have mosquito screens, but hardly any mosquitoes, because of the very dry climate.)
We hope this answers your question.
Please email us if you need further help.
Best regards,
