after travelling up from Nottingham we arrived at the exact time, to be told our room (8) was upstairs. so after going up 4 flights we discovered our key wasnt the right type for the door, eventually we discovered the room downstairs! this was after problems locating the room key. to be honest you could tell there was a lack of experience on reception. this estate has so much from holiday houses to a pool, there wasnt much effort i think on the hotel side of it. the room had a dirty carpet and the headboard wall was damaged. the window didnt provide much privacy when coming out of the shower.

The grounds were lovely and there seemed to be plenty of activities. Sadly our stay in one of the castle suites was really not what I expected. The room was clean and comfortable but just not that nice - gloomy and a bit shabby. The food in the bistro was nice and staff were friendly & helpful. But although we were in the same building we had to go outside to get there. It was a strange place, maybe better if you're self catering. But if you are the breakfast prices are pretty eye-watering!

Just back from a great holiday at Kilconquhar Castle. Unit was a little tired but did not detract from overall enjoyment. Staff were very friendly and efficient particularly in the restaurant which we used at least 5 times. I am celiac and the chef and staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. We would definitely go back to this resort.

Good location for exploring the area and that is about all I can say that is positive. Room 8 is in the basement, it looks nothing like the photos. It overlooks the back of the kitchen of the bistro. There is no soundproofing, you can hear every other person coming and going and snoring. The water takes almost 2 minutes to run hot and having had a shower the bathroom floor becomes a slip hazard due to the inadequate fan to remove moisture. Neither of the windows opened, indeed the bedroom window cord was hanging down. There was no toilet roll when we arrived. The internet comes and goes. Altogether a very disappointing experience. To show it is not just me who was misled by the photos, friends of ours had also booked there and when they saw their room they got a refund and left!

Booked here for a villa for my family of 4. I read the reviews the day before I went so had an open mind …. First arrived and was blown away at the beautiful grounds. The castle (or very large hotel) is stunning. Met by some very lovely staff and very attentive. Very professional with good instructions how to get to our villa and a run down of the facilities. The accommodation was great ! Parking for three cars at least beside our villa. I don’t know what some of these reviews are based on ?? I mean it’s not super modern like a center parks lodge filled with the latest ikea furniture, but it’s rustic country cosy to suit the surroundings exactly! Big leather sofas, well equipped kitchen, three bathrooms and three bedrooms. It was large, comfortable and CLEAN ! Beds were comfy, showers had good pressure, loads of cleans towels and bath robes. Hot water excellent (three baths a night for my family) and the kitchen had all the implements for self catering. The odd wall had a scrape here and there but over all very impressed ! The views were amazing, two bedrooms with patio doors and lounge area had huge patio doors! Very impressed, perfect for us, very comfortable stay, staff were lovely and the leisure pool very clean and decent size. Will absolutely be back, and think it’s good value for money. Thanks for having us 👌🏼

We stayed in the Pines on a timeshare exchange . The building looked like one of the original farm buildings . Very dated inside and freezing cold . We had read in previous reviews about the cost of the electric so we were very careful about usage . Bearing in mind we were out everyday and several evenings and only had the electric heaters on for a short while when we came in our bill was £63 😱 and we were bloody freezing all night . It was torture if you needed to go to the loo in the night . Bathrooms freezing and dripping with condensation. Nowhere to dry towels . We noticed that some lodges were empty and we asked to be moved but the estate manager said we couldn’t . My husband who is an electrician said the electrics wouldn’t pass an EICR inspection and the wiring to the hot water tank was dangerous. It’s a shame as the area is lovely and there is a fantastic pub in the village that’s worth a visit . Most of the staff were lovely and pleasant but if you are offered the Pines to stay in refuse .

A small 90s style gym setup Dangerous step in male changing room next to the tiny sauna be careful.. Room smells of dry wee. Shower was crap. TV is old and dated. No biscuits or bottle of water in room Found other people's clothes in room. The bed creeked all night didn't sleep, its 430 now and I'm sat listening to the birds with a crapy cup of tea. Last time I stay here. Way over priced. Can't get breakfast till 8am and the pool, gym etc doesn't open till 8am also. Which is pants. Someone needs buy this place and renovate the lot and it would be amazing.

We had been spoilt the week before because we had a lovely resort ....then we came here! It was dated and I have to say dirty.....we had a dog so brought many cleaning products and cleaned the lodge! The make up marks on the carpet came out so easily,,,,the dirty switches on the heaters were a bit more concerning - so dirty _ covid! Attention to detail is needed, we reported a few problems and we are not fussy people. Having said that, we had a great week and it is a lovely location. It claims to be dog-friendly yet we could not eat in the bistro at night which meant they lost a load of money as we ate off site - need to change that attitude! Would I recommend, yes but with reservations! The staff were so friendly and the activities were fun and varied!!! The heating costs were an issue.....£100 for a week....be prepared!

Decor was very dated and could use a lick paint. Good to use as a base. We had a lovely time. However on the day we left and gave our metre reading we were charged £178 for a weeks electricity. Which is absolutely outrageous. We weren’t even there half the time. When I said to reception that I wanted the meter checked they seemed very put out and said they would get back to me, obviously that didn’t happen so I called again and was told there was nothing wrong with the meter. I asked for the manager to call me, again nobody called. Every time I called I just got attitude and rudeness from each person I spoke to. I was basically told it was tough and I should suck it up because nothing was going to change. I can’t believe how they could be so rude and unhelpful.
