I stayed at the Green Iguana during my time in Saint Thomas. The views of the island were awesome! There was parking just outside of the hotel. Hotel guests had free wifi access. One should be prepared to walk up and down MANY STEEP STEPS AND HILLS if one wants to walk into or out of town from this hotel! I found the guests and the staff to be friendly. One must enter a combination to access the enclosed hotel before one inserts a key into his/her room’s lock. The room was clean and it was serviced daily. The room had a safe, a refrigerator, a microwave, a coffee machine, and a television. It was tricky for me to use the air condition machine, but it worked fine. There were also places where guests could: sit, barbecue, or use items, like: drinkable water (when available), aloe vera, sunscreen, bug spray, and other ones. I saw a few small lizards and some big turtles on the property! I heard some chickens make noise during the early morning hours, and I thought that the water pressure and the water temperature were not ideal. I did hear some construction noise during the day for the installation of a pool, but I was rarely around during those times. I was annoyed when the hotel ran out of free drinkable water and the guests were offered the option to purchase bottled water. While I liked this hotel, I felt that it was a high price value without some amenities, such as: a continental breakfast, a pool, or a gym. Nevertheless, I was still overall pleased with my lodging choice.…
I very much enjoyed my stay at the Green Iguana..Gwenn and John made me feel welcomed as if I was their good old friend visiting. They both know St. Thomas and surrounding islands very well and gave great advice on how to get around, what to explore and where to eat.. The Green Iguana is located a beautiful walk up the 99 (or rather 102) steps from the city center and the amazing views will make up for the climb. The rooms may not have the most updated decor, but they are very clean. Everything worked well: There was plenty of hot/cold water in the shower and the A/C provided the perfect temperature. Free coffee and tea available in the room. I was very happy to hear that the hotel runs mostly on solar energy.. I would stay there again.
We arrived at the Green Iguana after a long day of travel, not knowing what to expect in Charlotte Amalie. John and Gwen were fantastic hosts, giving us tips and recommendations to make the most of our time in the city, not to mention a breathtaking view of the bay from our room and balcony. I can't recommend this place enough, especially for those traveling to St. Thomas for the first time.
We live in neighboring St. Croix, but had to travel to St. Thomas for medical testing not available here. Though stressful and not a vacation trip, by the time we left the Green Iguana, we felt we'd had a relaxing visit to a favorite cousin's home. Gwen and John couldn't have been more understanding, helpful, or accommodating. I hope the hotel owner appreciates what a gem he has in his resident managers.
We stayed 9 nights at the Green Iguana and it was perfect for our needs. We are not resort people, we like to find a central base of operation and then explore, This place was great - right above the '99 steps' so an easy walk to main street downtown and some historic landmarks as well - and a quick drive to the different beaches, overlooks and many dining choices, Our balcony had a great view of town, the water and the sunsets The garden outside our door had many cool birds, bananaquits and hummingbirds, as well as iguanas and two resident tortoises. John and Gwenn were great. They also provide beach towels which is an added bonus.
