I want to clarify that this review is not a response to the customer service received by the hotel staff. The staff was extremely apologetic and compassionate. Thank you to Ms. Judith, Carmen, Gindra, Jordan and Oteemia for your attentiveness and help during our stay. With that said, PLEASE BEWARE WHEN BOOKING THIS RESORT. In August of 2021, I booked a 4-night stay at the “All-Inclusive” Adult-only Divi Carina Bay Beach Resort and Casino for 2 people, for October 2021. The resort was listed to have 6 restaurants, 3 bars, a spa, fitness center, an outdoor pool, watersports, tennis court, volleyball court and more. A few days before leaving for St. Croix, I called the corporate office to ask for confirmation that they would require a negative COVID test taken 72-hours prior to check-in, which was listed under “On the Island” on the travel requirements section on the hotel website and that this was a separate requirement that the 5-day negative test required to enter the island. The representative confirmed that the hotel required its own test and that the information on the hotel website was correct. Since I had already taken a COVID test the day prior, for the island requirement, I had to get another test to meet the hotel requirement. The night before we left for St. Croix, at 7pm, I received a call from Angela East, one of the managers of the hotel, asking to confirm my reservation for the following day. After ensuring her that my friend and I would be there, she then asked me if I was informed that the hotel would not be all-inclusive. I told her that I was not informed and she went on to say that the restaurants would not be open, but that a grab-and-go café and casino café would be open. She assured me that the staff would do everything they could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Then said that she hoped that would be still come to the hotel. Since we had a 6:45am flight , which we were already checked-in for, and it was already after 7pm the night before, I informed her that we didn’t have much choice. She told me that I should contact my booking agent to request a partial refund so that I would only pay the room-only rate. I also informed her that I had to take a second COVID test to meet the hotel requirement and she informed me that was not a hotel requirement. I told her about the information on the hotel website and the conversation I had with the Corporate representative and she assured me that she would look into it, but that she thought that information was incorrect and would see if I could be reimbursed for the cost of the second test. When we arrived at the hotel the next day, we learned that there were more issues with the hotel, beyond not being all-inclusive, than was revealed during my discussion with the manager the night before. The hotel was actually not complete. Aside from the fact that the restaurants were closed, almost all of the other amenities were not available either. There were no bars, in fact the poolside bar was still under construction with a ladder and small scaffolding next to it. The fitness center was closed. One of the staff members informed us that they had yet to receive the exercise equipment. There were no watersports available; the spa was closed; even the gift shop was not ready. Some areas had brown paper lining the windows and doors, so that you could not see inside. The outdoor pool, hot tub and tennis court were the only amenities that we could use. Our room was newly renovated and clean; however, it was missing the bathrobes and hairdryer listed in the amenities. That evening we went across the street to the casino to get dinner at the café. The café had a few tables, but was basically a take-out restaurant, with hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and only three true entrees – one beef, one fish and one chicken meal. The next morning, we went to the grab-and-go café for breakfast, and found that everything was prepackaged. Bagels, donuts, muffins and Jimmy Dean Breakfast sandwiches, all which we have to pay for. On the 3rd day of our stay, I met Angela East in the hotel lobby. I asked her about the refund for the COVID test. She asked me where I saw the information on the website. The front desk staff member, Gindra, allowed me to show her where the information was located on the website using her computer. Angela East confirmed that the COVID TEST requirement information on the website was inaccurate and took a photo of the my two COVID tests and $65 receipt for the second test. She said she would inform the corporate office, ask that the information be removed and would request that I be refunded for the cost of the additional test. The information on the website has been correct, but I have yet to receive a refund. This is not what we booked and not what we wanted in a vacation. Besides feeling disappointed that our vacation time and money was wasted, we felt betrayed by the hotel for falsely advertising the hotel as all-inclusive and then waiting until the night before we were due to check-in to inform us that it would not be, which gave us no opportunity to find a different resort for our trip. BEWARE WHEN BOOKING A STAY AT THIS RESORT. YOU CANNOT TRUST ANYTHING THEY SAY!

My wonderful in-laws booked this “resort” as our honeymoon getaway. They were notified by e-mail the day we were to arrive that it was no longer inclusive. While our room was newly renovated and gorgeous, nothing was open. No food, and no alcohol. Their casino had a cafe and they had a coffee shop open for a few hours during the day with hardly anything in it. We were told the first night it was inclusive and then told the next day that information was incorrect. To say I was disappointed is a complete understatement. My husband and I ended up renting a car and driving over 20 minutes into town the entire week we were there to visit the board walk. We managed to make the best of our trip. The hotel put wrist bands on us, (still not sure why) and we were never given any type of explanation in person. Their website says it will be inclusive in 2022, however, when my family booked it months ago, it said it would be inclusive and open by October the 1st. I may not have been so upset if they had been honest and had given us an earlier notice. The staff was nice, but unfortunately, we did not get what we paid for.

My husband and I vacationed at the resort May, 2021. It was so nice, we stayed twice! We had such an awesome time we came back in July, and already have plans to return before the year ends. We stayed in the hillside suites on both occasions -they were newly renovated and designed in a refreshingly contemporary style. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They were professional and efficient. Many thanks to Edmund, Gindra, and Oteemia. (Hope I got your names right : ) The soft opening took away nothing from the wonderful experience we had. We were extremely appreciative of the fact that we were allowed to stay despite the fact that they were still working on a full opening. We enjoyed the food from the cafe located at the casino. The grilled salmon was the delectable! Ooh, and the Johnny cakes were simply the best! The main silver lining for us was enjoying quiet and the newness of our suite before the major crowds come in. It’s going to be awesome when fully opened! We saw the evidence of that as we toured the place. As for the previous reviewers who complained about everything: please do your best to stop being so spoiled, crabby and ungrateful. Don’t ruin it for those who are able to look beyond the dust. Understand what a soft opening means and be happy you got to stay at such a grand resort.

Notified resort under construction 12 hours prior to arrival. Still 6 months away from finishing. Zero lobby. Construction worker brought us room key. No amenities. No beach access. No pool. No security. Nothing around to eat. Besides all that the worst part was only 30 seconds of hot water every night. Even in a very new room just built.

My wife and I spent our Honeymoon at the amazing Divi Carina Bay. The staff was amazing, the food and atmosphere are what dreams are made of. The staff was extremely helpful when it came to my wife's dietary restrictions due to her celiac disease which we struggle to find almost anywhere else. We will certainly be back many times in the future.
