This is an update review to the one I wrote In March 2023 about the Hilton Harbor Club Hotel. One year later, we returned for our fifth visit to St Lucia and second stay at this hotel. St Lucia is a small island nation; everyone seems to be filled with warmth, friendliness and pride - reflected by all the wonderful staff of the hotel. They continue to be as good as any we have encountered anywhere in the world. The hotel manager, Martina Roth, is the most visible and “hands-on” hotel executive we have ever seen in a large hotel, and frequently around, helping out her staff and talking to guests. They are all this hotel’s main asset. In my last review, I criticised the provided internet (which was very poor) and the continual loud music around the pool and hotel. Both problems have been corrected – the internet is now good; and the music is now unobtrusive, although there for those who want it. I did make comment last year about the beds in the swimming pool area not having mattresses, and there being only a small number of parasols. Unfortunately, this year, the position worsened exponentially and there were far fewer beds and parasols (with many in poor condition). However, we were assured by Martina that new pool furniture was on the way and would be installed imminently, so will not be a problem when you arrive. The bedroom: we thought that our room was excellent last year. We were again happy with our room this year and most of last year’s minor irritations have been corrected. A Nespresso-style coffee pod machine is provided but the pods are not widely available on the island, so the complimentary ones provided by the hotel are limited and no local shops sell them. This year we brought some of our own, as well as slippers and a shower cap (for my wife!). The bathroom is also excellent, with a good shower, and they have corrected a small minor irritation regarding hanging the bathrobes. There is certainly no problem in relation to the supply of towels and the housekeeping staff are really “on the ball” about looking after the rooms. Food and dining: it was disappointing that this year the top floor, excellent restaurant was not available, but hopefully by the time you arrive, it has re-opened. Julia’s restaurant remains for breakfast and dinner. This year, breakfast is not included in the hotel cost, except for Hilton Diamond members. Nevertheless, the greatly enhanced buffet continental breakfast is inexpensive and an additional, individually cooked full breakfast is available for a small supplement. In-room dining, with a full menu, is now offered. The popular, attached bakery is still there, also. The food in the hotel is still very good, although sometimes items on the menu are not available. This is the same with all the restaurants we visited in Rodney Bay and so is not limited to the Harbor Club Hotel. Post-script: I did write earlier that the St Lucia is a small island. Fruit is seasonal and not generally imported so, for example, there were no oranges or tangerines available. I should add that the island is also not generally sugar-free or gluten-free friendly so, for example, the only soda is sugar-free Coca-Cola, and a lot of food and drink is loaded with sugar. There is a singular lack of diabetes awareness and artificial sweeteners often unavailable – so bring your own, to be safe. There have been two (at least) recent regulatory changes. The necessary entry Immigration and Customs form – which is a pain to fill out on the incoming plane – can now be filled in online in the 48 hours before you arrive and is electronically attached to your passport. Also, since we last hired a car, over-65s must have a health certificate from their doctor, written within the previous 3 months to hire one. I can’t find this rule advised anywhere on the internet - but it was confirmed to me by several car-hire companies who declined to offer a car, because we didn’t have this certificate. Will we go back to the Habor Club Hotel? We certainly will.…
