#44 of 83 hotels in Negril
Beach cottages in a unique enclave. Totally immersed in nature, extensively landscaped, a rustic, family feel in a jungle on a beautiful white-sand beach. The cottages can be large or small, simple or deluxe. Whistling Bird offers amenities and it is a small family business - an "UN" hotel, more like staying with a Jamaican family than a hotel in Jamaica! An excellent Staff and a full slate of services to offer. 24 hour security and access, free parking and WiFi, massage on premises at the beach, no competition for beach chairs and towels like at the "big-box" hotels. We can do food and drink, a simple breakfast or lobster dinner for example, all made fresh, all cooked to order. We offer a Genuine Jamaica lifestyle, vibe and experience, and serve authentic Jamaican food and beverages in our private, open air bar and dining area. Come live as we live, and explore and embrace this beautiful private spot in the middle of 7-mile beach, the music, the people. Irie!

We just departed from Whistling Bird and couldn't have had a better time! Milton directed us to wonderful adventures, and kept our beach reading time pleasant as he kept an eye and made sure we didn't get bothered much by passing by of sellers-of-things. Kevin and Chef Brown kept us full and happy, and advised on interesting Jamaican fare. Ackee and saltfish, and breadfruit were the faves. Fresh fruit abounds, and pretty much everything can be jerked! They were smiling when we got up, and when we turned in for the night. It was such a joy. Ms. Bavra and Ms. G kept our rum cups full, and were very generous with local adventure tips as well. Ever helpful and pleasant, the two of the them. Everything was well wiped down, and lovely and clean. It's definitely more of a family, and less resorty, a feel we really enjoyed. We learned to play dominoes with Kevin and Aaron, and they were so patient as we fumbled through our first few games. Genius drove us to several outings in the resilient corridor, and to and from the airport, and was happy to point out interesting sights and answer questions. He was prompt every time we expected him, and he was fun to talk to! Calvin, the owner, was very responsive to our many questions and left us in the capable hands of his staff. It's a well run machine, with the touch of blessedly familiar faces day after day. The beaches are basically empty right now, and they're very happy to see the few visitors that are wandering through! We are already planning to take more family members there as soon as we can manage, and we already miss our new friends.

I went to Whistling Bird for the first time in November. My parents have been going for years, decades even! Welcomed with a private drive from the airport. Many days where I got to leave and experience Jamaica by walking on the 7-mile beach of Negril, while also feeling like the staff was looking out for me and awaiting my return. Some of the best trees on the beach where you can take a break in the shade and make Whistling Bird private. Locally made meals, staff that have worked there for years (decades even!), modern amenities like Wi-Fi with well cared for accommodations. Massages offered on the beach with Rosie next to the ocean. Amazing. An authentic experience and I can't wait to go back!

A vacation that was soooo needed and soooo dreamed about for MONTHS became an absolute reality at the Whistling Bird. The tropical garden backdrop to the beachfront accommodations created an exotic and welcoming environment that felt like a secret gem in the middle of the seven-mile beach. The staff (including the owners) were all so kind and generous of both time and spirit. The accommodations were great - Clean, Safe, and Comfortable. Calvin and his wife and the WB staff are truly dedicated to maintaining this property. It is not an overstatement to suggest that the property itself, the beach, the owners, and the staff are a magical amalgam. I can't wait to go back.

I truly cannot convey how much I love this place! This was my 3rd trip to Negril in just under a year, so i obviously enjoy Negril. WB took my love for Negril to a whole new level. When I phoned the resort to inquire about our room, imagine my surprise when the owner himself answered. That, combined with the recommendation of friends we made in Negril, had me looking forward to this visit. We arrived, and the room we had initially thought we'd be in wasn't available due to some renovations that were going on. My concern quickly evaporated when I saw our cottage, and everyone bent over backwards to make us comfortable. The location on the beach is perfect. Whether you like tucking under the shade of the trees or being in the full sun, there's plenty of space for both. The property is small, and beautifully landscaped. We did do the breakfast/dinner included option also. Every morning started with Ryan's great smile, good coffee and a terrific meal prepared by Chef Kevin. Chef Brown's dinners were eagerly anticipated each evening, although a little more variety on the protein would have been appreciated. We had chicken most nights, fish twice and pork only once during our 9day trip. Every single meal was delicious! I loved my visit to this amazing little piece of paradise. It definitely may not be everyone's cup of tea, though...it is rustic, yet very clean and comfortable. If laid back and easy going is the vibe you're looking for, this is the place. Everyone is welcoming and kind. Btw, Papaya and her sweetie are the icing on the cake! I look forward to returning in the spring, and am excited to see all the renovations completed. Btw, even though construction was going on during our stay, it never disturbed us and the contractors/crew were all really nice. I am counting the days until I'll be chilling beneath that beautiful palm. Thank you Calvin and Cathy for sharing this amazing place with everyone...it is very special and I look forward to returning, asap!

We had included ground transport from the airport. Seamless process. Arrived to our room, we stayed in “Parrot” (all of the rooms are named after exotic birds). The dinner chef made his way to our room and introduced himself, and let us know the fabulous dinner spread for the evening, as he does everyday. We were shown the common area where the meals and lounge areas (all inclusive area) were located and instantly felt like we were up to speed and at home for the next few days. You can get involved in excursions through Whistling Bird. Highly recommended as the security personnel will make sure you get there safe and sound. They will also look out for you for beach vendors, make sure to check with the security and they will give you a quick lowdown. I cannot say enough about this hotel experience. It has the most authentic vibe out of all of the options we are considering. There are trees enclosing the resort, and trails throughout the property. You will see at night why they call it the Whistling Bird. Truly a great romantic getaway or a guy/girls trip. We WILL be back.

Hello and thank you for your visit, support and great comments! The Staff and I take great pride in hosting and providing a truly relaxing and Genuine Jamaican holiday and sharing our little slice of Paradise and hope as soon as you are able, you will again visit. I hate to sound like a broken record, but Whistling Bird is not for everyone--if you want that pretentious 'mega-resort' All-Inclusive packed buffet/competing for a beach lounger environment, this is not it! Here you will find a fabulous caring Staff in a private tropical and slightly rustic setting. A cabin on a beautiful beach! Great food, fresh air, Caribbean sun and drinks, safe and private 24 hour security, your Jamaican home! Thank you also for mentioning the transportation we set up for you, as that can be part of the total holiday and we are experts at providing genuine Jamaican food, beverage, long or short excursions, and round trip transportation from the airport, and can set all this up if you wish for one total package price that will most likely be the best on the Island! Again, many thanks, and when you are ready for your next visit, let me know directly at calvin@whistlingbird.com and I will take care of it for you. Welcome Home!
