Our flight was getting in late so instead of paying for a full day at Beaches resort and getting in late at night we decided to stay at Toby’s Resort. The hotels.com website said they have a shuttle. THEY DO NOT HAVE A SHUTTLE. We got a $15 flat rate taxi from the airport to Toby’s. When we pulled in I noticed the parking lot is gated. We got 2 rooms with 2 beds for our family of four, the beds are twin size. The rooms are clean but pretty rough and dated. The restaurant was OK. I got a traditional chicken stew with beans and rice. The chicken was more bone than meat, same with my husband’s chicken and curry dish. Overall, it’s not what it seems from the pictures and description.
Cheap, tacky one-star motel. I booked this place quickly due to a bug problem at my Airbnb. Grave mistake. I would've been better off with the cockroaches and spiders at the old spot. At least they never bit me. The wifi sucks, the floor flooded and they also had a bug infestation. I had welts everywhere. All of this happened within hours of check-in. I called the front desk 3x and the lady with the braids was useless. I decided I would check out the next day but had an excursion booked at 7 am so I asked for late checkout. That same lady said it was fine. I contacted Expedia while on my excursion, completely ruining my birthday, and was told that I will be partially refunded for 5 out of the 8 days even though I only stayed 1 day. I decided since the curfew was closing in on me that I'd stay the 2nd night and just leave in the morning. I checked out the very next morning for better accommodations. Would you believe they lied and said they were refusing a refund? I spoke to the front desk the night that I came back from my excursion and even confirmed the refund. Anyway, there are no refrigerators in the rooms. They want you to pay extra per night to rent a refrigerator. No safe! It's bare-bones accommodations with janky utilities. The wifi was trash. I couldn't video chat longer than 40 seconds. The tv is static-y. It looks like they have an illegal connection. That's how fuzzy the channels were. The AC took 10 hours to cool down the prison cell so I never cut it off for fear of burning to death. There were ants everywhere with no source. Clumps of hair and the toilet was dirty. Also, people were sitting around with no masks on every time I came to the front desk.…
I’ve turned the corner past this place for years on my way round the island This year ended up checking in during the middle of my stay and it’s really a more authentic place for anyone interested in that . Clean rooms , lobby and restaurant My breakfast the last day whoever made that callaloo and fritters i want to be their best friend . The decor with blues and greens and wall painted art is subtle yet tasteful Pool bar with music yet you can clear your head WiFi is touchy in spots .. but really who wants to stay in touch
We got so lucky to have found Toby’s Resort! With a true Jamaican vibe, no hype, just peaceful, clean, honorable & great location! They have a lovely restaurant with great food, a poolside bar, and beverages available in a cooler. We walked to the Beach Club but sadly with covid we couldn’t rent a chair. Oh well, we managed and had drinks on the beach and a lovely lunch. We also got turned onto a great local restaurant in the hills called Peppa’s. Worth the taxi ride!
My wife and I stayed here all the time and I must say this resort is chilled and quiet. The food is great especially the curried goat. You get nice authentic food here. Securities are around so you have nothing to worry about. The employees are super friendly. From front desk, security, restaurant, housekeeping, grounds and bar. Olando in the restaurant is very attentive, courteous and welcoming.Special mention to Micheal who kept us entertained at the bar. He is also very welcoming, customer savy, helpful and courteous. The covid protocols are followed at this resort so you have nothing to worry about. Please note mask is mandatory. I highly recommend this resort on Kent avenue in Montegobay. Looking forward to our next visit soon.
