The stay at Sombre di Kabana was very nice. Paul & Marion (the owners) are lovely people who didn’t really treat us like guests, but more like family. Of course the space you have for yourself (inside your own house & in the garden) is more than big enough to get all the privacy that you need, but if you want some good company or advice about the Island, Paul & Marion are always around somewhere.

The location itself is great, away from all the crowded tourist hotels, in a relaxed residential neighbourhood. It is close enough to the popular beaches though (and of course the supermarkets/other stores), you can be there in no-time. I recommend to get some transportation though, even a scooter will do the job, but walking will take you a pretty long time.

Expect a nice indoor living that doesn’t have this generic hotel feeling, it feels more like a small house where people are actually living. It is cosy and you can see that love and attention is put into it. The garden & swimming pool are also very nice and relaxing.

Thanks Paul & Marion for a great time!

We are 2 couples/explorers in our ‘50s from Winnipeg Canada. We stayed in the spacious 2 bedroom Casa Piscina. Paul and Marion provided excellent service, are very welcoming and helpful. They picked us up at the airport and helped us find a car rental in advance. The rental car was delivered and picked up at the B&B. Their B&B is in a residential area so you should rent a car if you plan on exploring. They helped us set up the ‘waze’ navigation app on my phone and it worked great! Their Kabana is as beautiful as it shows in photos and there is plenty of private space if you wish. Other perks: long beds, use of the BBQ, AC works good, 3 sets of towels (shower, pool, beach) and a hangar to dry them, plenty of coffee and tea selection, a handy 9 litre cooler (for picnics or beer/wine), beach mats, chairs & umbrella. We made our own breakfast and drank the tap water no problem. After a long day of exploring and swimming, the pool was very welcome! The 5 other guests from US and Europe were nice. Thanks for having us! We would rent here again and recommend it to friends!

What can I say, the host are just amazing. You feel like home with Paul&Marion. We had everything we need for the 6 nights we stayed. I would even stay longer if it was possible. I highly recommend this place, they also offer discount for other activities on the islands so I suggest you talk with them for your planning and save some money.

We came to Curacao to unwind, to relax and to recharge. Well, at Sombre di Kabana we got what we're looking for. Don't underestimate Paul and Marion, they are 5 star chefs in their kitchen. We ordered their breakfast, oh boy, it doubles as a lunch! And we accepted their offer for a small dinner, well it's not small at all! We got 4 courses for such a reasonable price, highly recommendable. Our cottage was incredibly clean and well equipped. No need to bring your toiletries, they have it all covered. The same with tea bags or coffee cups for the Nespresso. They think of all the small things! We will be back. And so will you if you book with them.

We really loved staying at Sombre di Kabana! The apartment we stayed in (the casa) was spacey, clean, well kept, tastefully decorated and had everything you need when coming back “home” from your adventures on the island. I loved the many little touches here including the different flavors of tea stocked in your tea tin (including some Dutch brands) the kitchen full of all the utensils you need to cook in your casa, or the generosity of our innkeepers having cold beers waiting for us upon arrival after a long morning of traveling. It was easy to just relax in the gardens under our little thatched roof patio, on the pool chairs and in the hammocks around the property. The B and B is located in a residential area that is pretty quiet so just sitting outside in the sun reading my kindle was incredibly relaxing. The bed and breakfast also has a refreshing pool for use at any time! We used it plenty and it was perfect in the warm Curacao weather. Our casa was also equipped with air conditioning, a fan, a large private bathroom with pleasant smelling shower products, a mini fridge, a coffee maker, a hot water boiler, information pamphlets, plenty of towels, beach chairs, WiFi- basically whatever you needed. There are also only three guest casas on the property and we met people from the Netherlands and Canada and everyone was nice and friendly (even if you aren’t the most social people like us) There is a grocery store and gas station within a ten minute drive so you can easily buy snacks and beers with which to fill your fridge. Room rates are also incredibly reasonable and you can add breakfast and airport pickup for extra cash if you’d like (Paul and Marion were waiting for us at the airport ready to pick us up and even bought us some gelato in the airport terminal) We added breakfast to our stay and every morning had a hot meal option and a whole lovely breakfast set up on the main patio - we had things like Dutch pancakes, sausage pastry rolls, eggs whoever we wanted and there was also plenty of fruit, juice, coffee, yogurt, breads, meat and cheeses available too. We were also able to take leftovers to our fridge and we had plenty of tasty little Dutch snacks and sandwiches to have when we wanted to save some cash for going out to nice restaurants at night. You will need to rent a car if you stay here, so make sure to budget that into your vacation plans (the car rental wasn’t all that expensive) There are some great beaches, restaurants, stores and such that about 10 minute drives and you’ll need a car to explore the other parts of the island and the main city of Willemstad (which has plenty of free parking and is a walkable city) Driving around Curacao wasn’t too bad and it’s much easier to drive since taxis are very expensive on the island and public transportation isn’t a thing (and honestly we barely saw any taxis when we were out and about). There just isn’t much that is in walking distance where Sombre Di Kabana is located, so I would take that into consideration when booking your stay. Marion and Paul can help arrange your rental car prior to your arrival. If you’re looking for a resort experience where you never leave or drive anywhere, you may want to book elsewhere. Exploring Curacao with a rental car is the way to go though. Marion and Paul had some great restaurant suggestions (we ate at two amazing places in the area that Marion suggested which had very reasonable prices, high end food, harbor views and great cocktails) and there are plenty of quick food options (like a BBQ food truck that opens only after 9 pm that is a poppin’ hotspot) that are very short drives away too. Mambo Beach is also a hot late night spot that is a ten minute drive from the bed and breakfast and Willemstad itself was only about a 15-20 minute drive. Paul and Marion were also both quite the characters and we had some very interesting conversations with them. They are both open-minded (and lgbt friendly, so you won’t have any issues here if you are are outwardly lgbt person or a gay couple) and open people, and it was fun getting to know them a bit over our six day stay. Curacao overall was a great vacation, didn’t rob our bank accounts, had some great food and beautiful beaches. We loved staying at Sombre di Kabana and Paul and Marion’s welcoming little home was an integral part of why we had such a great getaway in Curacao. We would easily recommend it to our friends and book here again whenever we return to Curacao.

If you are looking for a relaxing, spa-like place to stay, then you have found it. The rustle of the palms and bamboos, the smell of the flowers, the quiet neighborhood, humming birds flying around, a hammock strung between two palms, and a pool that is the perfect in temperature. The rooms are huge and spotless. They also include a mini fridge which is really handy for snacks etc. And the location is handy to several quality restaurants and mini markets and a grocery store. We even rented a sailboat nearby for a run around Spanish Water bays.

We were met at the airport and even though we had a car rental car, we followed Albert back to his house. We were then welcomed with a glass of wine out on the back terrace. When we went out to pick up some "take out" food, we returned to table set up pool side, with a white linen table cloth, wine glasses and little lights lit up all around the pool. All of this, plus the full moon made this a perfect evening.

Albert and Jack complete the experience of staying there. They are wonderful hosts. The breakfast is delicious with plenty of selections. They make you feel that their home is yours and when asked they recommended some great places to go and see on the island.

Do not hesitate to book your room here. You will not want to leave.

Thank you Albert and Jack for making our stay with you a memorable one.

After going to many all inclusive 5 & 6 star resorts in the Caribbean this B & B was a wonderful alternative. We have just returned from spending 2 weeks with Albert & Jack at their charming B & B. The B & B Sombre di Kabana is located in a safe neighbourhood with many restaurants & attractions a short drive away. The property is gated with parking within the gates for all the guests. Our room was located in the main house on the ground floor. The room was spacious & we had an attached small room with a sitting area, small frig & coffee machine with direct access to the garden & pool. The house always smelled fresh & clean. The garden was delightful, well maintained, as was the swimming pool, & was visited daily by hummingbirds & butterflies. As the B & B is small we usually had the pool to ourselves. Sombre di Kabana is known for it's breakfasts & it is no wonder. Breakfast is elegant & plentiful with such a variety of offerings that it's difficult to not over indulge. The little touches make this B & B special.....the personal transport to & from the airport, the ride to the upscale Dutch grocery store, the afternoon ice cream treat, the Prosecco on arrival. If we ever turn to Curacao Sombre di Kabana will be our first choice for accommodations.

The perfect location for our week in Curaçao : friendly hosts, lots of shadowy places in the beautiful garden, swimming pool at exactly the right temperature: who can ask for more.
We especially liked the large breakfast, including the small detail of sandwich bags for our lunch.
Albert asked what we liked to drink so the fridge was already stocked when we arrived. Jack treated us on ice cream in the afternoon.
Our beautiful room, with windows on 2 sides, offered enough ventilation through the open windows, so we didn't need airco.
The hammock was also a nice extra in the garden: in the morning sun after my breakfast swim, with cooling shade the rest of the day.
Much better choice than the large chain hotels along the beach.
On our last day, Albert drove us to the airport, so we could enjoy a last few hours in the morning in the beautiful weather.
Thanks guys!

We stayed 7 nights in this B & B in November and everything was perfect. We arrived in the evening after being picked up from the airport (for free) and had a welcome drink waiting for us on the terrace.

Our bedroom (one of the small ones in the annex) was huge, as big as in any 5 * hotel I have been to, with a great bathroom with a separate shower. All amenities are included. There is a coffee maker in the room, kettle, a medium-sized refrigerator with a freezer, air conditioning and mosquito screens on the windows - great if you want to keep it open at night.

The whole place was immaculate - not only our room which was cleaned daily but the pool area, terrace etc.. There was a storm one night while we were there and within a few hours all the leaves and debris had been cleared away.

The breakfast was wonderful. A selection of fresh bread, freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit salad (made the same morning by Albert himself), a selection of hams, cheeses, yogurt, cereals, eggs cooked to order and so on. Everything you could want and if not, just ask. Every morning there is also the "surprise" pastry - a doughnut, muffin or ham / cheese croissant.

What really impressed us about this place was the quality of EVERYTHING! The bedspread, furniture, bathroom accessories, cutlery, glasses - all top.

The B & B on its own was great (and a very good quality / price ratio), but what made the stay were the owners - Jack and Albert. They gave us tips on where to go (much better than our guide book) took us to the rental car place, gave us a pay-as-you-go cell phone, so that we could make local phone calls and were wonderful hosts. They were there to help us with anything we needed.

To sum up, this will always remain one of our favorites. The B & B is 5 * and the owners are what makes it so memorable. We will definitely recommend this hotel to our friends.

If you are tired of the bling bling, fake smiles and mediocre services you can get in the Caribbean, go and visit Albert & Jake in Sombre di Kabana. You are never sure whether they are taking the guest house as their job or their joy (probably it is both) - anyway they will not stop spoiling you with wonderful breakfasts and great stories. The rooms are charming, big and clean and the beautiful garden and nice pool make you spending a lot of time there instead of exploring the island. The only thing lacking is a nice dog, that is how much home you feel.
