DETAILS of our stay: - studio 55 at Sorobon Beach Resort, mid August - mainly we went to windsurf so we have that bias in our review PLUSES (location, location, location): - great windsurfing, constant winds, shallow & warm waters - great family beach, no rough waves - great snorkeling within walking distance in shallow water - breakfast included (passable food but it gets tiresome after a few days but it's very convenient and the coffee is decent) - Fleur, the manager, very generously, offered to stop by a store for us since we didn't have a car. NEUTRAL Windsurfing FYIs (Dunkerbecks is associated with Sorobon): - gear is okay for beginners and advanced but the middle skill level is a bit sparse. - bay is very safe so the windsurfing school attendants don't Need to pay much attention to you so the place is good for the independent surfer. - they don't seem interested giving lessons; Jibe City have lessons most all days but I gave up asking after a few days as they wanted perfect conditions. The crew were all nice, polite and young (~20yrs) but uninterested in our skill development that we were used to at other shops (e.g. Vela Cabarete). MINUSES: - you need to rent a car. taxis to town are $20 each way. when we were there the hotel restaurant closed at 4pm and the only other restaurant within walking distance was at Jibe City which had late dinners two nights a week but otherwise closed at 6pm. In addition to intown restaurant/grocery, you might want a car to get to other snorkel/dives. - the hotel interns seem unable to make decisions. Example1 we wanted to upgrade from a studio to a beach front (i.e. spend more money there) but they didn't know how to do it. They acknowledged there were free rooms but they said we had to wait for a manager the next day. Example 2, one day there were torrential rains and the dining room had leaks onto the tables. I mentioned this to the attendant and she said Yes, they knew about it and could do nothing. I moved potted plants onto the tables. Example 3, our AC unit leaked. When we told the desk they said they would send someone but no one came. We mentioned it again after two days They didn't have a record of our first complaint and didn't offer an apology for our wet floor. - the hotel advertises high speed WiFi but we had No connection in our room most of the time with occasional intermittent weak signal. We told the desk the first four days and finally gave up. The beach had better signal.

If you like windsurf there is no better place to stay than Sorobon. It has its own surf rental and there are three other options within 500m walk: Jib City (100m), Bonaire Windsurf Place (200m), Frans Paradise (smaller, 450m walk). The beach cabins are basic but comfortable. Cleaned every other day, cleanliness is OK but it's hard to keep sand out (no wonder, you're on the beach). Breakfast is basic and its organization is somewhat chaotic, the food itself is OK and you can order an omelet or fried egg. Food for lunch was good at the beach restaurant and we did not have dinner at the hotel restaurant but other guests told us the food was great. On the beach, the cabanas are free for guests of the hotel which provide a comfortable degree of shade and provide a great view of all the windsurf action right in front of you. Our kids were able to enter the water and wade to a floating platform some 200m out safely because the water is less than a meter deep for the first few hundred meters. In short, this hotel gives a 3 star stay and it's in line with what we expected: nothing fancy but solid and clean enough - with the main reason to stay being the outstanding location and direct access to sea and windsurf. One improvement is the staffing - it feels like the hotel is run by interns which is OK in itself but when more serious questions needed to be handled (like a change of rooms) it was not easy to get definitive action taken.

It was my first time in the resort but surely not the last one. 1. Location - great . Morning close to the sea is worth all money. 2. Kichen - perfect . New Chiff is high skilled, every fish was excellent . We catched baracuda and wahoo and he made it fantastic. Breakfast could be better, too basic. A variety of wines and beers is not big so with this Chief and his dinners variety should be better. 3. Room and cleaning . Cleaning didn’t meet my expectations but it wasn’t the worst I had seen. 4. Spot . Perfect to learning and improve windsurfing skill. Instructors are the best in the world I guess, boards were not the best for me but still not bad. 5. Reception -They can solve every problem. 6. Beach bar. Nice crew , fast service . I recommend this resort

This resort is located on LAC bay, the whole bay is no more than chest deep perfect place to learn to windsurf or perfect your power tacks and duck jibes. Windsurfing gear rental and world-class windsurfing school is available right on the resort property, so if you want to change out your gear multiple times in a day you can. If you don’t windsurf there are plenty of other things to do. If you like to work out on your holidays there is no better place to stay. They have built a full outdoor gym using local materials, it has everything you need for a full work out with views of the ocean and the nice Sea breeze while you’re getting your sweat on. I would highly recommend getting a unit with oceanview. All of the units have small kitchens are fully equipped and very comfortable. Each unit has its own patio with furniture to view the moon over the ocean or enjoy the local wildlife. We took advantage Of the half board package and we’re thrilled with the five star meals we received each evening. If you are a foodie there is no better place to go. Don’t expect a glittery resort atmosphere the Sorobon doesn’t have a pretentious bone in its body. You will not find a kinder more hospitable staff always willing to serve your every need.
