Damsedrif, Johnny se huis, sleeps 14-16 people. House very neat and has everything needed for self catering. A good stopover before entering the Baviaanskloof nature reserve or after completing. It was very hot at the time of our stay. Owners house has a small pool and fans were supplied. Fairly close to other attractions in the kloof.

We stayed in 'Johhnie se huis' on a family holiday with 6 adults and two small children. The house is basic but comfortable and whatever extra we needed (a poitjie pot for example) was happily supplied by the owners on request. The fenced and gated garden meant that the children could run around the enormous garden without us worrying too much about them. We all enjoyed the activities in the area, mostly lots of mountain biking, as well as the seclusion (no connectivity whatsoever, except WiFi at the farmhouse). The kids loved splashing about in the rivers and the adults enjoyed many G&Ts under the stars. We will be back.

During our travels through the Baviaanskloof, we book accommodation as Damesdrif Guest Farm for two nights. On arrival at the “admin/registration” farm, we were welcomed by Hestelle who accompanied us to the actual accommodation. We stayed in “the old house” that can sleep eight people in three separate big bedrooms and with two bathrooms. This house was explicitly decorated with clusters of “old era” furniture but with a modern overall look and feel. The rooms were very comfortable and included bed linen and towels.

Our self-catering booking allowed long hours at the outside fireplace where the best of the best dishes were prepared. A fully equipped kitchen assisted the wife’s with the salads and side dished.

Needless to say that the Baviaanskloof and Kouga mountains are the ancient natural guardians of this unique region and especially this farm that we used as a basis to scout the area and its beautiful mountains and ravines. We want to recommend the Damsedrif Guest Farm to all visitors of the Baviaanskloof thet would like to really experience this beautiful and well maintained accommodation.

The trip through the Baviaankloof was amazing as was our stay (party of 6) at Damsedrif in "Johhnie se huis" too. If you expect luxureous expensive hotel alike accomodation, then you are obviously in the wrong area. But, my god, what a great trip and what a great atmosphere at Damsedrif. The family who runs the place are really great people and the food was delicious. Looking back at our 3 weeks holiday, this is still the place that comes to mind first. No internet at Johnny's house', but if you walk near the owner's house you can check your emails etc,

As a family we are very happy with simple, rustic accommodation but, although clean, the house we stayed in (Ou Huis) had a somewhat neglected feel and some elements were in serious need of repair (e.g. the moulded shower floor was sagging down, with a gap between it and the wall). It's not that expensive improvements are needed - just a little more care could be taken to make things feel more welcoming.
The beds varied - some were comfortable, some not at all.
The food was fine but one member of the family requested no red meat. This was observed at suppertime, but the breakfast quiches unfortunately all contained bacon, which was annoying.
The host was friendly and Baviaanskloof itself is very beautiful. Weaver birds building nests in the tree near the front door were a highlight.

Three couples booked Johnny’s house after driving through the Baviaanskloof pass.
This is a farm, and we expected rustic - but not a dirty , unkempt house. The kitchen in particular needed a very good scrub, there were also cobwebs and dust in all the rooms & the furniture was badly stained. The main passage has broken tiles.

The swimming pool was green and full of bugs.

Fortunately the beds & linens were clean.
We were given braai ingredients which we cooked ourselves - with salad & cupcakes. Breakfast was brought to us in the morning - meals were adequate. The homemade bread was lovely.

There is simply no excuse for the owners not to clean this house properly. We stayed at a number of different B&B’s on this trip - at a similar or cheaper rate - and not one of them disappointed.

After a long hot trip through a beautiful area you are presented with a corrugated iron roof shed apparently converted to a chalet ... no insulation and holes in the roof in semi desert conditions ... the inside was basic and very very rough .. really not staying here ... we decided to give up our payment and find decent accomodation.

I have stayed here a few times over the past couple of years. Nothing fancy but neat, clean, awesome food and a kind, warm caring host that really is what makes it so memorable. The Baviaans is superb and this will just add to the experience. Damsedrift is great value for money. Many thanks Hestelle, we so look forward to our next visit.
