An amazing place of peace and tranquility. Such an enjoyable stay (the best part of our holiday). We wished we could have stayed longer.

We loved the huge variety of birds, animals and plant life and the scenic walks. Not to mention the fantastic hospitality and food.

We went on a game drive with Victor Watson and Zwei. Victor was extremely knowlegeable and recounted many fascinating facts. To top it all we saw so many animals and birds including a herd of hartebeest that had just lambed. We could not have asked for more.

We were able to get a good balance of rest and exercise and left feeling totally rested after just 2 days.

We will definately be going back!

We traveled to Haaspoort for a weekend away with family and partners - it was truly amazing! Only an hour and a bit from PE with good roads and clear signage it is easy to get there. We chose the self-catering option.
Elizabeth and Sivia, the staff couple there were lovely, friendly and helpful - everything was clean and well looked after. Anything we wanted (we forgot sugar) they were more than happy to help us out with.
The chalets are equipped with everything you need and more (king size bed - bliss), lovely bath right next to the window makes you feel like you are bathing in the bush, towels, coffee and teas, drinking water, etc.
We used the bikes to go for long rides, followed the detailed walking trails and had a fantastic game drive with the owner Victor Watson. We saw so much, from buck to all types of trees and vegetation, birds and even an old shepards house.
We really had a great time and I did not want to leave! :)
I would highly recommend Haaspoort to anyone looking for a fantastic bush getaway from Port Elizabeth or anywhere in the world. Truly relaxing and of a very high standard.

We enjoyed the most relaxing 3 days in many a year, The bush camp has all the trimmings of a 5 star lodge and a fraction of the price. It is an awesome place to walk, ride or just chill with a book. The camp is spotless and very well maintained. And those nights....so quiet.
Only the sound of the owls and night jars...awesome

The location is almost unfindable. No road signs and pretty much unreachable by normal car. The stay was ok; really remote and you should calculate an 1 to 1,5 hour drive from the main road R329.
We booked an early morning gamedrive in advance, but due to the rain (only soft rain) the game drive was cancelled by the people from Haaspoort. Everything was ok untill we wanted to pay the bill and got into an argument about the cost for the gamedrive. We said we didn't wan to pay for something we didn't get. At that moment the 'lady of the house' got really rude. She thought we had to pay as it was not her fault that it was raining. We refused to pay the full amount and after that it got really ugly. She wished us to get stuck in the mud and something about dyong in it, we couldn't hear entirely. We were intimidated.
We left and were surprised that these people even exist and run an accomadation like this.
We almost never write evaluations, but we think we should warn other travelers for this place.

Response from Victor W, Owner at Haaspoort Bushcamp Private Nature Reserve
Responded 29 Feb 2012
It's distressing for us as owners to read a review like this especially when it's such a one-sided personal attack devoid of any truth. As owners we find it natural to be friendly and courteous to all our guests. This particular guest was extremely rude from when we met him and on more than one occasion complained about the weather in South Africa during his holiday. Haaspoort has a road sign at very major junction off the R75, four in total. Our property is reachable in a sedan vehicle off the R75, 17km of gravel road. The R329 is another tar road before the R75 that the guest must have been traveling on before he reached the R75. Haaspoort emailed the guest on 3 occasions requesting a contact number for him while he was in South Africa but we received no response. This is so that we establish an estimated time of arrival and clarify directions. We do this successfully with all our guests. Haaspoort is a "bush getaway" and therefore it's logical that it would be remote. We take that as a compliment. We received an abnormal amount of rain on the day preceding the guests arrival thus the road was slippery, yet still reachable in a sedan car. Again, a mobile number or number of the guest house they were staying at previously would've been helpful. The game drive was cancelled because being a game reserve, game drives are conducted off-road (off the main road). For safety reasons (slippery roads) we decided to cancel the game drive. We only ever cancel a game drive if we deem it unsafe for the guest. At no time did we imply that the guests should pay for a game drive he didn't partake in. Having booked our self-catering option with game drive and breakfast, the guests invoice was placed in his chalet before his arrival. After consuming the breakfast the guest rudely declared that he wasn't paying R600 for breakfast (for two persons) as per the invoice. I explained the R600 included the game drive and deposit and that we would charge them R100 each for breakfast which includes fruit and yoghurt, full english breakfast and tea/coffee. He argued that it was too much and the most they paid for breakfast throughout their trip was R10! We try and offer good value but we can't serve breakfast for R10. It's untrue that we wished them to get stuck in the mud or wished them to die. We had previously, before the argument, offered to escort them out the reserve in our 4X4 in the event that they got stuck. The guests deliberately left with the keys to the chalet they had stayed in and made no attempt to try and return them. Upon leaving, the guest said he would write bad reviews about us wherever he could. I referred him to trip advisor. What he couldn't "hear entirely" when he was leaving was me saying that I would get a "management response" to whatever he wrote.

We have just spend a wonderful two nights at the Haaspoort Bush Camp. The facilities there are excellent - beautifully designed to ensure a bush atmosphere (braais, fires, secluded homes with decks, outside showers, baths looking into bush etc.) but with all mod cons (large units, beautifully designed and decorated, with enormous comfortable beds, large bathroom with walk-in shower and large bath, tea and coffee-making facilities etc.). Also, a nice pool area and communal lapa and Braai. Fantastic location if you like hiking. Plenty of birds, buck, vervets etc. A must if you need to wind down. Also, a great place for family and friends holidays.

My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful weekends spent at Haaspoort Bushcamp, most recently with our baby. The camp, which is only an hour and 10 minutes drive from Port Elizabeth, is in the heart of the bush and is secluded enough to allow you to unwind completely. Chalets are comfortably and thoughtfully designed to ensure privacy and beautiful views of the bush from your bed- and bathroom. There is nothing quite like the beautiful Karoo landscape – it gives you such a sense of peace and tranquility. We love going for early morning walks or reading on the deck of our chalet. Cosy evenings around the fire at the Lapa are another favourite with us, as are the game drives! The hosts, Lindsay and Victor, are extremely hospitable and knowledgeable about the area. Not to mention Lindsay’s catering, which is first-class! What a remarkable spot…we highly recommend it!

My Fiance and I stayed at Haaspoort Bushcamp and had an amazing time in this quiet and beautiful place. The chalets were so elegant and the service was top notch. There's nothing like a spectacular game drive with sundowners followed by a romantic bubble bath for 2 overlooking the lush landscape. The pool was a delightful break from the summer heat and we will never forget the good wine and great laughs around the fire at night under the vista of stars. It's a bit off the beaten track but well worth it and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to get away for a truly wonderful African nature reserve experience with a spouse or children of any age.

Thank you Victor and Lindsay for giving our family the opportunity to stay at your little (Not so little) piece of paradise. My daughter Bronwyn recommended that we all go there for new year as she had spend the previous Christmas there, So glad we did. From the minute we arrived the staff were there to greet us and unpack all our luggage and take to our respective rooms. They were so hospitable yet quite discreet. The accommodation is quite luxurious and spacious and I love the lapa / kitchen / bar area. All well spread out. We also enjoyed the welcoming pool and the men loved the 4 X 4 routes and cycled their little hearts out. (On their own bikes). I know you have bikes there as well. Will definately come again and refer to all our friends.

My family and I had the pleasure of staying at Haaspoort for 2 nights in July in unit 3 and friends of ours in unit 2. The accommodation was luxurious and neat with a homely feel.

Haaspoort is easily accessible by sedan, easy to find and yet surrounded by mountains.

The staff, Jacobus & Cynthia, were very welcoming and spoiled us with some warm homemade roostebrood.

We will definitely be going back soon. This is a perfect getaway for families, friends and couples wanting to get away.

In short, 1st class!
