From the minute we arrived it felt like we had stepped into paradise. From the friendly welcoming staff to the amazing view, Camp Figtree is a true oasis in the African bush. The meals and accommodation were five star, and mother nature adds to this with the most amazing sunsets and the clear night sky adding to this unforgettable experience.

I spent 3 nights at Camp Figtree on a 3 4 2 offer which was a very good B&B deal. A friend recommended the place and I wasn't disappointed. I booked a Superior room but was given a Poolside Superior room which was very comfortable. The pool is private and shared by 2 adjoining rooms. However, at this time of year it was way too cold to use the pool and, in my opinion, the view from the Superior rooms is better. The sunset one night was spectacular and I went and sat on a Superior room patio for the best view.
When I returned to my room after dinner, a gas fire had been lit taking the chill from the room. And the duvet was lovely and snuggly! A dressing gown and slippers were supplied which is a nice luxurious touch.
My only reservation about my room was the wet room. I don't like rain showers - they were obviously invented by men - and the floor by the toilet and hand basin got wet although the bathroom is spacious. A useful addition would be a hook to hang the hand towel by the basin and perhaps one on the door for the bath towel.
I had breakfast and dinners and all meals were very good. The 3 course dinner is perhaps a bit expensive.
The common areas overlook the wonderful view and are comfortable. Fires were lit in the lounge and dining room making them warm and cozy.
The staff were all very welcoming and attentive.
Camp Figtree is about 11 kms from the Main Camp entrance to the Addo Elephant Park. It is mostly a gravel road but was in good condition.
Camp Figtree is now my number one place to stay when visiting Addo I thoroughly recommend it.

What an amazing getaway - from the warm welcome, incredible views, attentive staff and plush accommodation... it's a getaway etched in the memory banks.
It's the attention to detail that we loved most - like the turn-down service and noticing our vehicle had been washed upon departing.

+1
This is a delightful and unique hotel in the Addo Game Reserve.
It took us about 90 minutes to drive there from Port Elizabeth. Pretty easy to find. the last 10km are dirt roads but you can do this easily in a normal car. You don't need an SUV, but you do need to drive fairly carefully.
Camp Figtree is charming. Our room was nice, if a little rustic. I would have a couple of minor niggles in that the wardrobe was tiny with only three hangers! We were there for three nights so we didn't really unpack. The bathroom was Ok but the shower was a "wet room". We booked the room with a private pool which was lovely & the view was amazing.
The public rooms are excellent, with an external lounge where you can have pre dinner drinks, coffee or just hang out. The dining room is lovely and we thought the food was excellent.
The staff are wonderful. So helpful & friendly. We booked a couple of game drives and these were amazing. We left at 8.30 & got back for lunch at 1.30.
We've never stayed anywhere like Camp Figure before. 100% recommend it.

We stayed in the Outpost which, although beautifully located, was a bit cold when we were there. But that didn’t change the fact that we loved our stay in every way!
The staff were marvellous, from Prince (who made it his personal mission to show us the entire camp and all the stunning options that are available - while at the same time regaling us on the area and the mountain biking routes. His attentiveness was outstanding!!) to Chen (who went the extra mile to look up some info on the local flora after a MOST informative trip around Addo) to the unknown chap who tirelessly and with great care washed our dusty car every morning.
The food was exceptional, served in front of the fire each night, always with very attentive service, fabulous wine and great conversations (Prince again!).
We were SO blessed to stay at this amazing place! Thanks to all involved!

We have been visiting Camp Figtree since 2014 and it still rates as our favourite getaway destination for total peace and tranquility. It's impossible not to relax whilst surrounded by spectacular mountain views and breathing the cleanest/freshest air imaginable. The cuisine is of a consistently high standard and, since the rebuild of the main area housing the Dining Room, Bar and Lounge areas, the layout is much improved over the original. Just one warning - in warmer weather there are a lot of small flies around in the evenings (and they just love red wine!) .... the staff are aware of this and will offer you covers for your wine glasses and wine bottles (take advantage of them!).

I was extremely impressed by the location of Camp Fig Tree, netled through a windy up mountain drive, positioned right at the very top with spectacular views over the valley. A beautiful deck runs across the viewside of the property, where we sat and watched the sun set, deck chairs and a pool overlooking the mountain. The bath in the superior room was great with adequate towels and an array of soaps. Dinner was OK, as a vegetarian in South Africa I made sure to notify the accommodation, however on arrival there was very limited options so a slight disappointment. However, breakfast was a total feast amazing croissants, fruit, cheese (and meat) platters, eggs benedict and pancakes galore.
I really appreciated the small touches that went into our stay, however it was my birthday when we were there and I was disappointed by no efforts into a little birthday hooray.
All in all a wonderful stay in a really quite and peaceful location. Thank you Camp Fig Tree!

We spent 3 weeks in South Africa and 3 days were at Camp Figtree , near the Addo Elephant National Park . It is a rough / narrow drive to the lodge , however it is definitely worth the adventure getting there. The lodge overlooks a beautiful River Valley and offers peace and tranquility in the Zuurberg Mountains .
The food was excellent , and the staff were very attentive to your needs , while relaxing at the pool or on the deck overlooking the view. My wife and I took one morning off from participating in any activities and relaxed by the pool/ deck and enjoyed a private lunch on a warm , sunny day ! It was a great way to recharge . Our only issue was that we should have stayed 3 nights !!
Tip , if you are able to book one of the units overlooking the valley ( with your own private deck ) that would be my suggestion.

We had a fantastic stay at the lodge, the views are magnificent and the service really good. A bit of maintenance is needed on the sliding doors in the tent we stayed in. The staff were great. I felt the price of a beer was a bit excessive at R42.00 a pop it was a bit steep. We did a game drive which was really informative and lots of fun.

Many thanks for taking the time to feedback. We appreciate your honest review, the maintenance team worked on the sliding door straight after your departure, thank you for bringing that to our attention. Our beverage prices are competitive within the area and due to our very remote location. We wish you a wonderful, safe and relaxed festive season and hope to welcome you again soon. Hi
We stayed in the tents - there is no electricity there, as far as I recall, but we were very warm at night. The staff bring you hot coffee or tea on request in the morning. Lovely place
Thanks for your query and further to email you are very welcome to bring your baby, we can provide a cot and yes we can provide baby sitters whilst you are on game drives.
Will be in touch directly.
Warmest Regards, Ingrid
Hello, The Tooth and Claw safari starts at 3pm and it is generally a 50min drive from Camp Figtree, the tour finises at 9pm and you should be back before 10pm. It is safe to drive back at night, you just need to go slow and be on the lookout for animals.
Camp Figtree offers transfers to and from Shotia.
Hi Julie
Not sure what photo you are referring to, but have a look at the hotel website for photos of the individual rooms. Please feel free to contact the hotel for ANY question - they are extremely helpful!
Addo will provide the best elephant viewing in the area with 600 in the herd. Buffalo are likely, lion possible (about 50% in our case), rhino they have - but I've not seen them- and leopard are always elusive. Best chance is to use one of the smaller game reserves about the area for a day drive - Pumba is great and should do all. Note: Addo doesn't have giraffe either as they are not endemic to the area. I'd do a day at Addo and one at Pumba or similar (hotel can advise)- but I'm biased - elephants in herds next to you car are not to be missed!
