A truly amazing stay, and a must. Addo elephant park is about a 10min drive from the accommodation which makes it super convenient and very easy to find!
The staff and owners are the sweetest people and are incredibly helpful in all situations. We had a 4-course meal at the restaurant that was exceptional and was assisted by Laureen, who was professional and very kind.
The room we stayed at had wifi and was decorated really well. Large open plan shower and private bathroom. Beds have a mosquito net and we were also provided with an insect repellant candle. Rooms have airconditioning so don't worry about being too cold to too warm!
The garden is very well kept, neat, and clean. They have a vegetable garden that you can explore and also a chicken coop where they harvest fresh eggs for your breakfasts.
We definitely return as soon as we can and staying longer!!

What a lovely place to stay at!
Trudy gave us a warm welcome upon arrival. She explained everything and showed us around the property. We had booked a rondavel which is a little round african cottage and it was exactely what we expected. The room was very clean and the bed is comfortable.

The guesthouse has a restaurant which is also a cooking school. We ate there both nights. Very friendly waiters and the food is of good quality. Also some unexpecting dishes on the menu like ostrich tartare (delicous!).
Breakfast includes of bread, coffee or tea, jam and butter and you can extend it by choosing many of other items for an additional fee.

We had ordered a picnic basket to take on our trip to Addo Elephant park. It contained (all freshly made) sandwiches, a quinoa chicken salad, brownie and fruit. Delicous!

If you are looking for a nice, quiet place to stay that is not your everage standard hotel, I would fully recommend this guesthouse.

We loved our 3 night stay in the main lodge at Addo African Home. Our room was well furnished in simple African style, the bed was comfortable and there was air conditioning. There was a sense of staying in a community and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the shade, walking round the organic gardens and by the natural pool behind the rondavals.
But the biggest treat of all was the food. We were treated to 5* standard meals and service for breakfast and dinner. The food was delicious and meals were beautifully presented too. Congratulations to all at the restaurant!

Lovely small hotel with a good restaurant. Staff are friendly and helpful. Nice touches such as water, coffee, teas and cookies all freely available. We stayed in a large rondavel which was very comfortable. Helpful to take a torch due to load shedding - there is a light provided in the room but a torch is helpful when returning to the room or moving around into the shower area or reading.

The accommodation was relatively basic in rondavels, so they are not luxury but they are perfectly comfortable. This is an eco-lodge with emphasis on sustainability and conservation of resources. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was not included but is available from the on-site restaurant which was very good for both evening meal and breakfast (albeit slightly expensive for the latter ).
Went on organised Game drive with Phillip and his wife into Addo - this is a must do ! such lovely people.

Dear Stuart, Thank you very much for your comment. You choose the standard rondavel. Thank you to note that it is confortable and pretty. Our restaurant serves only fresh produces localy sourced. I'm not sure that R180 (6 euros) per person for a full breakfast with fresh home made juice, home made croissant, bread and danishes, home made jam and so on is really expensive. I let it to guest appreciation! All the best!

What a fantastic stay!

Firstly, perfectly named as we did feel right at home. From the friendly welcome and great hospitality we received from Ivy, the wonderful dinner service from Loreen and the absolutely delicious dinner and breakfast by chef Wanda. Not to forget the very welcoming cats - Bonny and Clyde!!

The rooms are just so perfectly decorated, I was taking notes to try and replicate in my home!!! Traditional huts yet absolutely comfortable and modern, nice and cozy on a cold August evening too.

The restaurant interior is so trendy and comfortable with a super bar, large fireplace and wonderful wine selection. The 3 course menu varies daily with what is locally on offer from the garden and surrounds and Chef Wanda does magic and chats away from the open kitchen while he is at it. On arrival I informed Ivy I was vegetarian and Wanda didn't skip a beat whipping the most delicious sweet potato Gnocci dish for me! It was so YUM!!!!!

Perfect stay with a girl friend, and can't wait to go back with my partner!

THANK YOU!

We really loved our stay at African Addo Home. We booked the Deluxe Rondawel room which was very nice decorated, clean and luxurious. You can book massages during your stay to relax and unwind from your trip. The host, who is also the owner of the accommodation, was very helpful, kind and involved towards the guests and the work environment. The place is eco friendly and the restaurant makes a menu with all home made ingredients, as well as from their own garden products. The restaurant is also open for guest who are not staying at the accommodation, and we really did loved the restaurant!! The food and wines are amazing! Besides that, we booked a full day Safari tour through the Addo Elephant Park with a guide from them as well. We really loved our stay and we really recommend the spot! It’s a ten out of ten!

This beautiful property is just 10 minutes away from Addo Elephant Park. They organise tours from the property to Addo with local guide Philip! A wonderful guide with infinite knowledge about the park and the animals that live there.

When you're at Addo African Home make sure you drop by the restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The owners are French and have brought their national cuisine to South Africa. The food is delicious! Homemade croissants in the morning, super thin flavourful crepes for lunch, and a proper 3 course menu if you're up for it during dinner. We had a little miscommunication about the time the game drive started so we had to miss breakfast the first morning which was such a pity.

Thank you so much Laurence for our stay, we enjoyed it very much!

This was a magical place and in no particular order of excellence, the food, staff and rooms.
The food really was exceptional with a French twist; breakfast was bread, pastries served with fresh orange juice, then option for fruit, eggs Benedict, avocado and so much more.
We ate in the restaurant on both nights of our stay and the food was well presented, again with a good selection. Note that they don’t have unlimited supplies, so when a dish is sold out there will be an alternative offered.
The staff were very helpful and happy to chat.
We had a traditional rooms which was very well equipped, with a lovely large shower and very comfortable bed.
We took advantage of the option of a half day game drive and I would really recommend it - you miss out on not having a guide.
Do note that load shedding happens at random times, and although the property will let you know, it’s always worth having your phone for the torch function.
There is a lounge for residential with complimentary tea and coffee … and delightful little biscuits.

This trip was a result of a last minute change in travel plans leaving me with 24 hours to find a place to stay. I was lucky considering that if covid wasn't at play I probably wouldn't have found accommodation here at such short notice over Christmas. That being said, NOTHING was lacking even with the lower number of guests. The first night I ate in the restaurant I was alone for half of my time in there. Did it mean food service was slower from the kitchen? No, Did it mean service was slower and staff demotivated? No. I'm not sure who was more excited about the menu, Lolo describing it, or me listening to my options. The passion Lolo has for French Cuisine is so apparent, every flavour in every dish is carefully navigated - it was such a beautiful experience. She is an incredible hostess, despite the red list wreaking havoc on our tourism industry, she is pleasant, accommodating and ready to see to all your needs. Rooms are beautiful decorated and clean, beds comfortable. The pool area is lovely and the fact that it's an eco lodge is just the cherry on top. Everything is fresh and home made with not only love, but passion. The game drive was excellent, Wanele (Spelling correct?) is just just a pleasure to be around, his passion for being a guide is obvious and rings through in his wide smile and sparkle in his eyes as he shares his knowledge along the way. I will definitely be back. I wish Lolo, her family and crew all the best for the year ahead.

I booked for 27 dec 2017. Is it open with the new owners? Also the restaurant?

Cape Town, South Africa2 contributions1 helpful vote
Dear Frank, I'm very sorry for the late answer. It is already open with the new owners. We took over the place in January after 5 months renovations. The property looks now amazing as you can see on the new photos! The restaurant will be open in December. We are currently busy with the works of this part of the property. It will be a very nice restaurant, organic food coming from our own organic veg garden and several local suppliers. We are looking forward to welcoming you in December! Kind regards
