Addo Dung Beetle Guest Farm is situated 4 km from the Main Gate of the Addo Elephant National Park on a working Citrus Farm. The Citrus part of the Farm is approximately 250ha with an estimated 151 000 individual trees. We have 5 luxury chalets on a B&B basis, nestled on a Mountain top over looking the magnificent Zuurberg Mountains. Our 3 private wooden bush cabin with self-catering facilities are for those real nature lovers situated each on different levels on the hillside in our safari area. Walking distance from the main lodge and parking area. Each bush cabin has its own private out-side flushable toilet and out-side open air shower adjacent to the cabins. The Dung Beetle suites are situated in the succulent valley bushveld vegetation with no view as dung beetle are always hidden, thus leading to a beautiful tranquil surprise in the bush. Walking distance from the main lodge and parking area. The only, true dung beetle inspired accommodation in South Africa! We are ideal for couples, parent-breakaways, honeymooners and also for small group of 10 people sharing. In our Thatched Roof Lapa we prepare traditional South African mouthwatering set meals on the fire while you enjoy a sundowner with us. We only serve in-house dining on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday; booking 2 weeks prior to arrival date is essential.

Conveniently located 15 min away from the park's entrance. Henry made us feel right at home. We stayed at the bush cabin1 and we absolutely loved it. Secluded and quiet. I loved the outdoor shower: nothing beat a hot shower under the stars!

We stayed in a beetle dung cabin, which is an old something without windows, the walls are just grey, no fresh air ever gets into it (smelly), it’s cold in there and uncomfortable. We stayed two nights and we would never book it again. The service was ok. The first morning we got a packed breakfast because we went on safari early, that was on. The second morning we did not order packed lunch, but breakfast was not prepared for us. Although we had booked B&B, they said we should have told that we want breakfast. Unfortunately nobody told us so. Breakfast time was only between 8:00 and 9:00. The surrounding is quite nice, but the cabins should definitely be renovated. We were not entirely informed about times without electricity, so we could not prepare for those times, which is not a good thing with two children.

A very beautiful accommodation in the middle of the nature. A quiet, but lovely place to stay. The staff is very kind and helpfull. The service is incredible. I was backpacking on my own and didn't had my own transport. One of the managers was so kind to drive me to the national park and back. I can definately recommend this accommodation!

When we arrived, the cottage smelled very musty and damp. This did clear up after a few hours, with the door open and fan on. However, it could have been avoided, by opening up and airing the cottage well, before we had arrived. I realise that the weather is out of your control, but we arrived during a cold spell, and were cold on the first night. We did get much warmer blankets when we asked for them on the 2nd night. However, I do feel that given the weather at the time, additional warmer blankets could have been placed in the cottage for us to use if required. The little kitchen space was difficult to use. There wasn't really space for putting dishes to dry, and the sink plug didn't seal properly, so water just steadily leaked out when washing dishes. Also, when we arrived, there was water in one of the bowls in the clean cutlery basket underneath the sink. This seemed to have leaked from the U-bend of the kitchen sink. In terms of the food - the breakfast that we had at the lodge was delicious. However, I was very disappointed with the packed breakfast. The muffins were very tasty, but apart from that, it was rather bland and I didn't feel that enough effort or thought had been put into the breakfast box (which I would have thought was a regular request, given your location on the edge of the reserve). When we arrived on the Saturday, the ladies in the kitchen were not expecting to make us a packed breakfast, although we had previously spoken about this being an option, so perhaps what we got wasn't the normal breakfast box. In terms of the late lunch on the Sunday, there also seemed to have been a miscommunication with the arrangements. We had expected the meal at 5pm as arranged - and had specifically hurried out of the park to be back in time. However, Dawie then came to ask what time we would like to eat and to let us know that schnitzel and chips was the meal. You and I had already clarified this via whatsapp, earlier in the day. The meal was ok, but there was no sauce or garnish, which again was disappointing. In retrospect, and comparing pricing, we should rather have eaten at the Cattle Baron at the entrance to the reserve. I realise that ongoing maintenance is a part of managing a property, but there were multiple leaks in the roof in our cottage. There was silicone in many places, so this is obviously not a new problem. But it just seemed like another unfortunate aspect to put a damper on our experience of our stay at Addo Dung Beetle. Unfortunately, we would not recommend Addo Dung Beetle to friends or family. The concept is fun, but our experience was disappointing. We were expecting 4 star accommodation but got the feeling it was all passed its prime.

What an amazing spot! We stayed in one of the Dung Beetle huts which we didn't realize was completely secluded. It turned out it was exactly what we needed. Beautiful secluded room with a private outside shower and balcony area. The staff was super helpful and friendly. Amazing food packages as well (Brekky provided) and the dinner was superb. If you're keen on a tour in Addo I'd highly recommend hiring the tour they offer as opposed to simply driving into Addo with your own car. We're looking forward to coming back next year.

I participated in the Addo Ultra Run last weekend. Registration was at nearby Hayterdale Trail Campsite. What a perfect place to stay a night before as we have to be at the campsite super-early on Saturday. Even better I met fellow runners staying there and we shared stories and experience. Felt like the whole hotel occupied by runners! Perfect stay, good dinner and breakfast and another lovely African hospitality. Smooth check-in (pre-payment made via Booking.com). Special mention to the reception Manager and David and the kitchen team for entertaining my request for packed-breakfast and the modified menu for subsequent dinner & breakfast meals. The balcony view as well as Lapa upper deck view of the surrounding citrus farm and Addo National Park as far as Zuurberg Mountain (I guess) are amazing. Early morning birds and dozens of bird nests on the tree (some with little chicks) added to the atmosphere. And the pool by the pond and jacuzzi looked so inviting but couldn’t get a chance to dip in. In short, two-night stay wasn’t enough. Will back for this and more. Love from Malaysia! Shaari

We had a bushcabin with outdoor shower and toilet, thats quite unique and nice, but only if it doesnt rain. The staff was very friendly. Unfortunately the work with the wrong safari agency, "Just Safaris" was the worst game drive I ever had.

Fantastic Bush Cabin stay very close to the main gate to Addo Elephant Park. The private bush cabin was perfect for our one nights stay. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Beds were very comfy and place was clean. Loved the private outside bathroom under the trees.

The bush cabin was perfect. I just loved the view from my place, and the outside shower and toilet were real nice. Only 10 minutes drive away from the Addo Elefant Park ( main entrance) a perfect spot to start a safari from. Very friendly host
